I had a difficult Gorilla Enclave quest. I asked someone if one of their cubs was for sale and if so what they would charge, and they said it was against TOS to ask that question.

The closest thing I could find was the Code of Conduct, which says, "Do not outright ask for items/currency/lions that do not belong to you and are not offered for sale."

I assumed that only applied to "can I have your cub for free" messages, but is it also against the Code of Conduct to ask if a cub is for sale and what its price would be?

On a technical level, yes, it is against the rules. A lot of players don't mind, but some do - I tend to err on the side of caution and usually only message players who state on their den page that they are open to PMs about lions not listed for sale.

Edit: Taking a look at the CoC again it really does look like the intent is to prevent begging and asking for free assets, but I know of several people who have been warned by moderators for inquiring about lions not listed for sale. Hmm, who knows I guess!

Typically I only try and message people who explicitly say they accept DMs about lions, its just safer and better for everyone. I personally dislike unsolicited messages about my lions as they're all for projects/needed. I tend to only report the people who act rude/entitled though or accuse me of "marking hoarding" or similar.

Mods will warn you only if the message is reported to them. Most users don't care, but the best way to go about it is the only ask for lions explicitly for sale in some way or if the user states they're fine with sales inquiries.

If push comes to shove, you can always ask first if the user is ok with sales related questions if they don't have it stated anywhere, then proceed from there when they answer.

gotcha, thank you both! I'm not always the best at picking up social rules - in the future I'll only message people who say they're open to that
