Yeah, I'm a new player too and it's pretty rough. Between the jaglion quest and this one, I haven't had any chance to get a proper stockpile! I got very lucky and found someone in one of the Event Chatter threads who had a big surplus of materials and was willing to part with some of it. I do wish that there was a slightly higher chance of running into those materials in explore though, even if it was just for the first week or so of the event.

That said, I recommend avoiding any battles in explore (or any other actions that decrease your energy) so you can get the max amount of steps out of your energy bars. Check people's branch sales as well, I find that it's easier to look for halfway decent deals on there than at the trading center. Make sure you're selling your rotting food to monkey business too, if you're hunting regularly that's a pretty decent chunk of change every day that can go towards buying what you need. Good luck!!
