Hi Liodenners! So I've been thinking a lot recently that the Adventuring feature in Crossroads needs a little love. The mechanic as part of this game is pretty awesome, giving us interesting stories to participate in once in a while (Like the Jaglion storyline) BUT other than that and Vredefort there's really not much else happening there. Thing is, the adventuring mechanic has incredible potential to sneak in some really unique decor, backgrounds and even applicators to the game. So imagine a few different scenarios that will open when specific conditions are met or during each event like a little bonus storyline. For example with March's Anti-Poaching event. We can introduce maybe 3 different adventures all triggered by 3 different explore encounters. 1. You have wandered further beyond your territory than ever before, and have come across a barrier! A fence? In your domain!? You shall not be contained. You walk along the edge looking for an opening, eventually coming across poachers sneaking through a hole they've just created. (This will optionally trigger a poacher encounter where you can get event currency). After defeating the humans, you stare through the hole in the fence... Odd smells and a wave of unfamiliarity wash over you. You're hesitant, but your momma didn't raise no p*ssy! So you step through the fence into the unknown. OR 2. You come across 3 poachers. They dart you and the world goes blank. When you awaken you're in a dark space that REEKS of humans. You're in a cage, and when your eyes adjust and you become more privvy to your surroundings you notice a bunch of other animals in cages! You're a king though, you cannot be contained!? You unleash the rage, breaking through the flimsy wooden crate. You choose to help the other animals escape too, now you need to find your way home. Luckily, it seems like you're just on the cusp of the known territories you've been in. But still, you're a far way away from your girls, and who knows what you might encounter? (A hint at black market trades where poached animals that are kept alive for muti (medicinal) or exotic pet trade) 3. You've been darted! The poachers have you. When you wake up, you find yourself in a grey jungle, with huge, ugly reflective looking trees. (A hint at the exotic black market pet trade, you're now in some rich dude's apartment as a house cat. Adventure your way out of it!) - Basically where reserves exist, you'll find they're surrounded by private lodges, farmlands and small rural villages. By triggering this adventure storyline, you'll get a few random explore encounters and tasks to complete (like with the Jaglion storyline). Maybe in one you stumble into a rural village? You steal a few goats because you're hungry, humans get mad and chase you off. Another you hear a helicopter and vehicles approaching. You're surprised when they surround you! It's the local Game Wardens, trying to herd your mighty ass back where you belong! Maybe you stumble into a private Game Lodge and lounge around on human furniture for a while. Or even make your way into some of the little towns or nearby cities! It's happened before. Realistically lions get into all sorts of trouble when they escape reserves so there's a few encounters that could be made. But it also brings to light some of the realities of side-effects of poaching and human encroachment. The nice thing is with these stories, they can be so small, but effective and once you complete some of the basic tasks of these little side adventures you get decors/backgrounds/applicators as rewards and they're unique to your storyline! If you ended up in the city storyline, you get a skyline background, and a few decors that a lion might find fashionable picked up off the city street, maybe even a new base applicator called "Pollution" or "The Big Apple" that hints to the concrete of the city? See there's endless possibilities! The stories can be small, the encounters can grow each year and the rewards pool can change. They can be customizable to events so each event has 3 adventure storylines that reward you with 3 unique items and x amount of event currency. You'd just need to complete like: 1000 steps in explore 1 village encounter 1 human interaction 1 evade capture by the game wardens! 3 stealing goats/cattle 1 free caged animals Each event can slowly introduce their own adventures because honestly they're fun! And maybe us as players can even pay event currency to join the adventures. Let me know what you think. |
