Territory determines how many lions you can keep in your pride before some start running! Your king, does not count towards any type of territory.

This goes for cubs and adols, males and lionesses! It works so each lion takes up one slot.

If you reach your max for territory you will not be able to claim lionesses, have lions sent to you from trades, accept trades etc. in order to get rid of lions you can chase them, kill them, abandon them, or nature reserve them! All which remove them from your pride.

If you have too many lions and you have lions aging up to fit into those slots, the aging up lions will RUN. And from there on you have 7 REAL LIFE days to claim back your lion before they are erased from the game. This is 7 real life DAYS. Not rollovers.

This is how many adult Lionesses you can hold in your pride!
Any female adolescent lion will age into this territory
