Andraste only knew her mother for her first year, as Queen Mist died soon after she became an adolescent. Cadan loved his youngest daughter dearly, and even though she had her father's coat and eyes, Andraste's golden stripes reminded the king of his late queen.
Sive, the new queen, loved her step daughter as much as much as she could. Sive continued raising the young princess where Mist left off, teaching her to hunt and the ways of a healer. Queen Sive was more than just a step mother to Andraste, she was a second mother.
During her brother's reign, Andraste and her sister Tullia took the responsibility of teaching the cubs of the pride. Andraste still loved hunting more, but with the queen, her aunts, and cousins doing all the pride's hunting, she never got too many chances. "Look, Andraste, I want to put you on the hunting party, but we have lots of younger lionesses to train. You're already so good at hunting, we need to focus on the next generation now," Dark told her niece.
"But I can help them too, Dark," Andraste pleaded. "Please, give me a chance at least."
"I'm sorry. I want to, but I can't," Dark sighed. "You and Tullia are great with the cubs, and you both were amazing hunters, but you... We just need it to be like this, okay." It wasn't a question.
In Aodhfin's reign, Andraste got her hunting spot back, though she found out things were a bit different now. Now, she was the oldest on the hunting party, but her cousin Dusk made sure she was welcomed. "Echo, Niamh, I know you two aren't too happy to have her here, but her parents were King Cadan and Queen Mist, the pride respects her, and you should too," Dusk told them. "I know you guys do well with my sister here, but Andraste is more experienced than all of us here, and we need her." She looked at the three lionesses with her. "Plus I'm in charge and I said you have to be good to her. She's my cousin and Caeoimhin trusted her dearly."
"Who said we wouldn't accept her?" Hope asked. "I'm glad to have her here, Dusk, I'm pretty sure we all are." She looked at her sister and Niamh. "Right?"
"Sure, whatever," Niamh rolled her eyes.
"I never said I wouldn't accept the princess," Echo sneered.
"Don't call me that!" Andraste growled. She had just joined them. "I'm not a princess anymore! Yes, my parents were king and queen, but they aren't now, and my brother is gone, so don't call me that. I don't want special treatment, but I am older and more experienced than you, so I do expect to get respect."
After that, Niamh and Echo shut up about it and started to treat her just like any other lioness in the hunting party. So, Andraste got to spend her lasts years doing what she loved most, hunting!
Andraste didn't have cubs in her younger years and only had three litters in her life. The first two only one cub was born, Darkness Before Dawn, and Gavina, both sisters looked much alike, and her final litter she had three daughters, all she gave the traditional "Waters" names. Calm Waters looked much like her mother, but with the cub's father's eyes, which were pink. Night Waters reminded her much of one of Sun's first cubs that she brought with her to the pride. Rocky Waters was a gray cub with her mother's eyes and golden stripes.
