Queen Apolliana is the Goldlion Wife of King Artemine.
What this means, is that she is kept within the sanctuary despite her ill breeding, so that her bloodline may continue on. She is one of the only known descendants of Jabidi, the Warden's founder, after all.
She does not mind it.
Her sire was the exiled Apolladine, and they only bred her mother once before they left. Apolliana was too important to leave, her blood too valuable to risk. To say that she was pampered for a lioness is an understatement.
She stays in the inner sanctum, a kept wife of Artemine, except for a few short hunting trips every moon (protected by hardier lioness, and only after she had her own daughters. After she was blinded by a thrashing ibex, these trips became even rarer.)
The bulk of the blooded's duties falls to her own mother, the worse of the crypt-tending and midwifery.
Instead, Apolliana is in charge of recording the blood-keeping of the pride.
A number of families have waxed and waned throughout the prides's hundred-year history, often at the whims of the kings and the queens they favored. Sometimes they ended disastrously, like when Apolladine expelled a number of discovered ill-bred lines, or quietly, and without notice, as the Jabidi's line almost was.
Apolliana's job is to record their history, and prevent it from disappearing.

founded: officially during meraiuk's reign, as they possess the only living remnant of king jabidi's blood. they selectively breed their daughters to the current rulers to introduce that kings bloodline, and they currently are ten generations deep, holding all blood beside the lost inako's.
