Shujaa Red Shadow comments on your lack of skill in sparring with other lions as you approach. Sheesh.
As you walk by, Shujaa Red Shadow refuses to look at you! She must be angry about something you did before..
Shujaa Red Shadow shoots you a pointed stare as you near, snorting at you disapprovingly for some reason or another.
You want to tell a pride mate that they need to correct their behavior, but you couldn't find the words and you felt bad. So, you approach Shujaa Red Shadow and ask her to do it for you. She laughs at your ineptitude, but agrees. You can trust her to say what needs to be said.
She was found by King Nyuki and Queen Munira when they were out on a walk together; the cub was starving and cold, nearly dead. She was fierce, however, with a cold look on her face. When they asked her if she needed help, she said she didn't and that she could fend for herself. No matter how much the royals tried to convince her, she refused to come home with them.
She did, however, follow them back to their camp and begin stealing prey from their pile in the night. The defenders were told by Munira to pretend not to notice. They gave her the nickname "Red Shadow" because of her slyness. After this happened a few times, the Queen herself caught the cub and pretended to be angered by her thieving. She gave her a choice: to stay with the pride or to be taken to the trading post to be offered to another safe place. The cub agreed to the latter, thinking she could get away from her at some point during the journey. Munira decided to wait until little Red Shadow was healthy before fulfilling this wish.
While the cub was in King Nyuki's pride, she was treated with respect and kindness; she was even allowed to train alongside the other cubs in fighting and hunting techniques. Despite this, she did her best to keep an emotional distance from everyone. She made sure the other cubs knew she was not their friend and was only there temporarily. She refused to let them know her name, instead taking on the old nickname they had called her anyway. (Little did they know she had never been named in the first place.)
When the time came for her to leave, she went with Queen Munira to the trading center and was found by her older brother, Prince Shetani Dark Nova, and his King, Ashura. It was the first time in a long time the little cub had shown any raw emotion; the Queen knew she had found her true home. Shetani gave her a new part of her name to signify their bond as siblings: Shujaa, or "warrior". She went with him to King Ashura's pride.
At her new home, Shujaa continued her training, staying close to her brother and not many others. The two confided in each other about their harsh pasts and difficulty to be accepted in their pride. She watched him grow into a more confident Prince and began to see that the pride was respecting him, so in turn, she began to respect them as well. She even became fond of his future queen, Kuzimu Charred Snow, as she saw how happy she made her brother.
After Lalamika Burning Rose, the pride's first head defender of King Shetani's reign, passed, the King made Shujaa head defender of the pride. Although she was still a bit more more reserved, the pride came to respect her as she grew up. With her brilliant strategies and fierce nature, she made an excellent head defender.
