The gryphon, a small and frail nestling, slinked out of the darkness, its body shaking with fear. The forest was devoid of life and the only sound was the steady beating of his own heart. As he stumbled along, he suddenly found himself faced with a towering figure, a massive lioness standing before him.
At first, he was consumed by terror, but then he noticed the queen, her pink eyes shining in the darkness. She was majestic and beautiful, her pelt shimmering in the moonlight. She reached out, lifting him up by his scruff. She led him to her domain, a place of darkness. A place he soon called his home.
The gryphon, now older and stronger, had always been grateful for her kindness. She had raised him as her own and given him the love and protection that was taken from him. He would always be by her side, protecting her and her young with his life. He knew that she had saved him from a life of loneliness and despair and he would do anything to protect her.
Cassiopia snickers, swatting the nestling around,
"Look at the snack Nyx brought us!"
Dysnomia snarls and snaps at the nestling and he curls up on the ground,
"Little birdie doesnt belong here."
They both laugh and the nestling's ears pin back and he snaps at them. Cassio slams his paw against his side, sending him tumbling against a tree,
"Little birdie doesnt know his place."
Dys hops over and snatches the nestling by his wing and he yelps in pain as she begins to drag him to the darkness that surrounded the territory,
"Lets show him his place!"
With a graceful movement Dys threw the nestling and the shadows immediately consumed him.
For weeks he was gone. Nyx knew what had happened but didnt search for him. These things were to happen and if he wanted to stay he had to survive then put the lionesses in their place. If he didnt he would die.
After a whole month of fighting off monsters and hiding he arose from the dark, weary and starved. Nyx fed him when the broods refused. She then turned and left. So much for motherly love.
The years after that was torture. He was pushed around, bullied, neglected. He was set apart and called a freak. But one day it clicked. He snapped back, beating every single one of the lions that once hurt him. And soon everyone feared him. His month in the dark taught him how to survive and the monsters in there forever changed him. Now he can easily slip into the shadows and silently sneak around. He often enforces the rules or spies on outside prides. He likes to be alone in the dark and spends most of his time outside of his pride

One evening while Orev was laying on a cold smooth stone the queen approached him. While other lions usually hop to their paws and shove their face into the dirt to bow, Orev simply nodded his head hello as the queen laid beside him. They were close friends. No need to bow.
Nyx looked up at the sky above "My mate and I decided to look for a heir early."
Orev looked at her in shock, she had been ruling for a little less than four years and she had plenty more time before she needed to retire. Not only that she had so many plans.
Nyx nodded at his confusion and slowly continued "Your children.. the gryphons.. They are incredibly strong and-"
Orev stood adruptly "Neither of them are well to be a king- Nyx- they would kill everyone.'
Nyx nodded once more "I understand that. Im not looking to king either of them. I want you to find a gryphon of your own species. Find one that just weaned and help us train it. Once I come of age they should be well nourished with all my goals and they should be strong enough to lead. Then we will ask the goddess to bless him."
Orev took a long moment to think before he responded " You want me to train your heir? A heir that can conjourn the depths of space AND has deadly abilities here already? Are you sure I can do that?"
Nyx sits up and locks eyes with him "I expect you to do that. Im relying on you Orev. The whole future of the pride is. You have honored us so far. Do not let us down." and with that she turned and padded away. Knowing Orev works better under stress. Of course she would never actually blame him if something went wrong. But sometimes you had to be brutal as a Queen. Even to your closest friends. Even to the lion you see as your own son.

You see ⍜⍀⟒⎐ taking a small prey item to an injured lioness. So gallant!
⍜⍀⟒⎐ is sitting in the rain, staring intently at his paws. The lightning flashes and he looks somehow dashing despite being soaked. How does he do that?
