Amethyst was left at The Lake Land's border by her mother. She was afraid that her king will find out that she had a cub with someone else than him, so she decided to leave her daughter somewhere where she'll be save.
Just as her mother had predicted, Amethyst was soon found by a patrol led by Hatari. The cub was obviously abandoned, so Hatari took her to the nursery where the caretakers were ready to take care of her.

When Amethyst started her training she turned out to be especially talented in fighting. Other adolescents kept telling her that it's only because she's bigger, which made Amethyst want to train more and more. She wanted to prove that she had actual talent that came from something more than just her size.
She asked Heather for extra lessons, to which the mentor happily agreed.
Amethyst was training as much as she could without neglecting her other lessons. She kept getting better and better, and her pridemates finally started to respect her abilities.
As final proof of her power, Amethyst asked Heather for a public duel. No other adolescent managed to win with Heather before. It was hard even for full grown lions.
The whole pride gathered to watch Heather and Amethyst fight. To everyones surprise, after almost an hour of fighting, it was finally over.
Amethyst won.
After that Heather asked her to become her apprentice and succesor, she wanted Amethyst to take her place as a fighting master in the future. Amethyst of course accepted Heather's offer.

Soon Heather's mate, Hawk, became the pride's king. Heather became his wife and queen, which made her give up her title of The Fighting Mentor. Amethyst, as her apprentice, took over the role. The only difference was that instead of The Fighting Mentor Amethyst was now known as The Combat Master. Her duties had changed a bit, but she was still doing the same thing overall.
She also joined The Council of the Wise as one of the most important members of the pride.
