Marble was born as the daughter of King Hawk and
Silver. The king was immediately impressed by her. She was strong and healthy, and she was growing fast. She ended up as one of the cubs chosen to stay in the pride.
Marble had always known that she was special, and the king's decision only confirmed it. She watched with contempt as other cubs were taken to The Giving Tree to be abandoned there. She was better than them. She was chosen by the king himself.
Unfortunately, Marble wasn't the only one. There were two other chosen cubs,
Briar and
Buttercup. They had no idea what an honor they had received. Instead of enjoying the opportunities they were given, they preferred to complain about loneliness and the lack of other cubs in the pride. Marble despised them. They didn't deserve the privilege they have received. They were an insult to King Hawk's heritage.
Marble devoted herself to serving her pride and king. She became one of his few followers, maybe even the most loyal one.
The king, to reward her loyalty, made her part of The Hunting Masters. Usually, it was the party leader who invited the huntresses to join, but no one dared to question the king's decision. Marble became the youngest member of The Hunting Masters, which aroused admiration in some and envy in others. Marble, however, did not care about the opinions of others. She got her well-deserved position, and that was all that mattered to her.
Soon King Hawk was overthrown and his heir stepped up as the new ruler of The Lake Land. He started searching for a queen to rule by his side, and Marble believed that, as the previous king's daughter, she would be perfect for the position! Unfortunately for her, no one seemed to share this opinion. In the end, the king not only rejected her, by chose a completely different lioness to be a queen - Spring. She wasn't even born in the pride! She was just some outcast from some other land that couldn't find a better place to live. What made her some much better than Marble?
In her rage, Marble began plotting against the king. With his poor choice, he proved that he was not fit to be a ruler. Marble quickly realized that her half-brother,
Crackle, had similar thoughts. So they joined forces and started their own little rebellion. They tried to convince other lions associated with Hawk to join as well, but no one was interested. Everyone has already accepted Oleander as the new king. Ungrateful idiots! Hawk had done so much for them, and they had treated him like a worthless worm.
After quite some time, a conflict around Oleander arose. He was getting older, yet he was avoiding choosing a heir, and the pride wasn't too happy about it. He needed time to teach a potential succesor, which meant he had to choose him ahead of time.
Oleander, frustrated and desperate, allowed Crackle to look for a perfect heir for him. Crackle asked Marble to help him, and together they started searching for their pride's next king.
In reality, however, their plan was quite different... They wanted to find a perfect heir for Oleander, and then make him their ally. They wanted to be the closest lions to the next king, in hopes of maybe influencing his choices a little bit...
In the end, Oleander chose five main candidates, one of them being Kasumba Iliyogandishwa,
Kasu for short. He was perfect for Marble's and Crackle's plan - confident, bold and proud, yet still a bit insecure, desperate for support and acceptance. He was also too trustful, making it almost too easy to impress and manipulate him.
