Dwight Eisenhower

One of America's greatest presidents in retrospect, Dwight Eisenhower was propelled to power due to his long-standing military career and his intention to bring a swift end to the Korean War after Truman failed to decisively route teh Chinese from the North. Eisenhower boasts a long and illustrious career as both a military man and a politician. He served in all three major wars of the first half of the 20th century and was the last president, to have been born in the 19th century. He is responsible for the planning and execution of the D-day invasion into mainland Europe, the first time the Allies would gain footing since Dunkirk. He was declared the supreme allied commander of the European campaign in the Second World War after the Normandy landings in 1944 as part of his planned Operation Overlord. His military career prior to the Second World War was largely not combat-oriented and logistical, it was his logistical skill; however, which allowed him to so brilliantly plan Overlord (though it is of note that it was his single vision but a large-scale cooperation between many prominent allied leaders. It was his WW2 fame which he rode to office on. Upon election (during which he used the popular campaign slogan " I like Ike," He focused his attention on American infrastructure and foreign relations. He is responsible for the highway system in America (instituted based on experiences with roads he had when traveled across the US by car in 62 days as a young lieutenant.) and the installation of the marshal plan which helped revitalize both US and International markets. He prevented the escalation of the Korean War by compromising at the 38th parallel. His unique attention to the relationships between foreign, American, and military spheres allowed for a unique grasp of politics which was present in his every action.
