For many prides, a strange male lion is a sign of violence to come; but the kindness in Tanka's eyes tells you he means your pride no harm. The scent of saltwater hangs over this young traveller's fur. As you pad up to him, he bows low. "Greetings," he says, in a voice that has not yet fully broken. "I am Tanka, prince of the Acropolis. My pride leader has sent me to learn about the prides of the mainland. I offer gifts and friendship, in exchange for a few days' rest at your pride."

Lore: Tanka began his life in the Acropolis, a vast kingdom of lions on the rocky coast. The last cub of Queen Haiku, Tanka was celebrated for inheriting his mother's piebald coat. Unfortunately, Tanka's cubhood was disrupted by a great typhoon, which tore through the kingdom and killed many of the pride's members. Among those killed was Queen Haiku herself, who died while helping her mate, Quenya, carry Tanka to safety.
Tanka was a plucky, spirited cub growing up; but he never seemed able to escape the shadow of Haiku's death. Quenya's eyes would shine with sadness as she washed her cub; his sisters would glance down at him with a strange tension; and as he grew older, he realised many lions blamed him for the death of his mother.
When Tanka reached adolescence, the Acropolis' new ruler, Captain Fleance, approached him with a proposal: he could become a travelling ambassador for the Acropolis, visiting neighbouring prides and learning about their cultures. Tanka recognised this offer as a chance for him to escape his birth kingdom and grow elsewhere. He accpted with delight, and set off from the Acropolis in high spirits.
