Gaius Marius was born to the noble, Leading Lion,Rexus Brutus, and Rexus' Lead Lioness, Isadora. He was not the first heir to be under consideration. Rather, Gaius' father had an older son, Ajax, the Usurper born from a different lioness, Seraphina His mother, Isadora, was bitter about such consideration as she held her son almost higher than herself. However, any conversations to her mate would lead to circling around to "time will tell". It was only on a fateful day that Ajax had fallen into the river between lands, swept away from his family. Even with many, desperate searches... The future heir could not be found and was presumed dead. It was then that the title of heir fell upon Gaius Marius, bringing back the pride Isadora held for him and herself as the Lead Lioness. The cub was a spoiled one. While he trained with his father, and his father attempted to teach him to be humble, his mother would do the opposite. She'd tell him, when alone, the privileges of power - that he would be a mighty king of the jungle and savannah someday. That he was worthy of such a position because it was his birthright. That his father had tried to take away this right. Every day, Isadora would instill in him - through being a cub and adolescent - his father's hidden disliking to him and ever-burning favoritism to his long-dead brother. It wasn't until Gaius was an adult that he would finally have the strength to betray his father, Rexus Brutus, and take his throne as the Lead Lion. How strange that fate would lead to this... That his brother, Ajax, had survived his ordeal with the river - and had done the same actions to the lion who took him in. Such a discovery would come to Gaius, primarily through his spying half-sister, Artemisia.
Gaius Marius was nothing like his father. As a Lead, he ruled with an ironfist. If one of the lionesses or subordinates dared stray from his commands, questioned him, or even dared to look at him wrong - there were dire consequences. Often times, punishments were physical... Some even led to death of lions within the pride. Those who attempted to flee were often caught by his sister or his mother, and he would order them to deal out the desired punishment - or he would do it himself. Unfortunately, these actions sometimes applied to cubs - unless they were favored by him.
While Gaius often would not care who he paired himself with, even taking some of his father's previous mates (unrelated to him), he did eventually settle on a Lead Lionness. Orianna was her name. Unlike him, Orianna was a lion with a warm, gentle heart and often tended to others with care - especially in the aftermath of Gaius' wrath and carelessness. Like most, she did not approve of his behavior or ideals. But, she was an arranged pairing from another pride - in which was later betrayed by Gaius and slaughtered by him... She had no where to go. Unfortunately for her, she thought that, eventually, her kindness could change things within the pride - as others shared similar thoughts and behaviors as herself... She thought that, perhaps, if Gaius was shown genuine kindness, he would see things differently. But alas, her actions meant nothing to him. To him, she was nothing more than a beauty to keep to himself and provide heirs - which has become an irritation to him as she has only birthed daughters so far. As a result, he tends to roam around to other lionesses, even straying off to seduce those within Ajax, the Usurper's pride. However, Gaius is still very intent on gaining a male heir from Orianna.
