As you pad towards some mounds of rocks and leaves, several lionesses look up at you. They seem oddly relaxed about having a strange lion this close to their cubs, but you still sit down to show you aren’t planning to harm them. As you sit, you feel something on the back of your neck. Warm breath…

Turning around, you see why the lionesses weren’t worried about the safety of the cubs. A massive, black lion pads around to sit between you and them. You notice he’s missing an eye, and he looks mean…. Menacing…. Then he speaks.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. I apologize if I came off as…. You know…. Ah, you’re looking at my eye? My father carved it out when I was a cub. Something about looking too much like Mother.” His voice is soft and shy. He spends time answering your questions, and telling you some short stories he’s made up. Now those are creepy…. And so are the ravens circling overhead, and playing with the cubs…
