The Night Terror Pride

You cough once you step into the ashen territory. The smoke makes it hard to breathe and the sharp rocks prickle your paw pads. Soon you start to feel dizzy, as if you don’t truly belong there.

You’re not sure when exactly you collapsed. But what you do know, is that when you open your eyes again, you come face to face with a pride of dark-coloured lionesses. A soft smile adorned their queen’s muzzle, but their murderous gaze told you a different story.

As you lock eyes with their queen, she tilts her head before leaning down. And as you come muzzle to muzzle with her blank stare, you feel as if the abyss itself had taken the shape of a lion.

She blinked curiously.

“Have our dreams collided? I’ve never seen you before.”

Too scared to reply, you laid there in silence.

“We don’t get many visitors,” she said after a brief pause, “but you’re welcome here.”

The queen smiled once more, but a shiver ran down your spine regardless. As the queen turned around and left you alone with her lionesses, a voice in the back of your head told you that she was lying.
