A TALE OF TIME
The open land spews sand upwards with each wave of crisp air. The breeze is refreshing, but there are few opportunities amidst this vast expanse to savour such moments. In rare instances, time seems limitless, but it often slips away swiftly.
Large sandy dunes cover the landscape as the sun beats down on the barren territory. Jagged stones jut out of the ground, and the ruins of long-lost cities and towns dot the terrain. Occasionally one might spot a leafless tree on the horizon. However, most, if not all, foliage and greenery were decimated long ago.
The emptiness of the vast desert is deafening, and the silence even more so. But as stillness blankets the region, there is a palpable sense of tension in the air. A set of hooves beating down on the ever-shifting sands can be heard echoing across the land. Their rhythm is a testament to life’s persistence in this barren realm.
The rising volume of hoof beats suggests that whoever, or whatever, travels within these dunes is getting closer. Just mere seconds later the silhouette of a large hooved animal can be seen crossing one of the many dunes. With the sun shining in the clear sky, the shadowy silhouette is revealed to be an elk.
The elk's movements are firm and steady, but its hooves leave no prints in the sand behind it. Its sand-coloured hide would blend into its surroundings, if not for its dark brown neck, head, and legs. The elk's mere existence suggests its resilience. To see such a specimen in a world like this is nothing short of breathtaking.

THE ELK'S MIRAGE
The Elk seen within these lands is only a mirage of its former self. Once a living breathing creature, now nothing but a ghost wandering the wastes.
But the mere sighting of such a creature, whether a trick of the eye or not, is a true testament to its strength, endurance, and loyalty to the lands it once called its own.
The Elk symbolises this territory, for when the dust settled after nuclear warfare scorched the earth, this territory remained, changed but resolute.
