So, fun idea (I thought) to enhance the RPG element of the site--what if the lionesses all had natures assigned to them? Kind of like karma except they can't change (or at least can't change as much) like the lion's can. And so when a lioness breeds with a lion his karma status and her nature combine to create the nature of the cub. Example: Male has a Cool Guy karma Female has a Sweet nature Offspring are nice/good natured Example 2: Male has Scary karma Female has Evil nature Offspring are Beast/Scary/Evil/etc natured Kind of like breeding results, but for personality! Maybe have a small percent chance that the cubs will defy the nature of their parents and be born as something opposite of their parents or something random. This would help for cool RP elements like two evil parents having a Saintly cub and the story that follows. What do you guys think? Edit: To clarify, I am not saying cubs are born with karma. I'm just suggesting that pridemembers be coded to have natures/traits that can be passed on and depending what your male's karma is that can effect his cubs. Of course males could also have natures/karma too, I just figured that would be more work for the coders and make this fun little story-building thing less likely to happen. ^^; |

So you mean the lion and the lionesses would have natures and just the lion would have karma? I'm okay with that. :) Would probably be easier to code that way. And yes, that's why I had the idea, I needed some extra element to help me characterize my pridemembers other than their looks. I think this could add a nice element to the game for us story-motivated players. :) 0 players like this post! Like? |

So basically add this to this idea's foundation. 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 06/12/13 by Kraft (#738) |

Yeah, I guess so....we should link to each others' threads so that the mods see both supports. :3 Or, since yours has more supports, just add my idea to your list at the top if you like. 0 players like this post! Like? |

The one problem with this I see is that lionesses indeed have no karmas or natures yet. But if lioness personalities are brought in, it might change. What I am not sure about is making the cub actually inherit karma. I mean.... When you are born, you dont hate, you dont love, you learn along the way. You are taught to hate things or to like things, just like a lion. Karma is something you learn and not inherit. 0 players like this post! Like? |

With the inherit thing I just meant that the cubs are born with natures or traits, not karma. I gues I should clarify that. I just used male Karma because they currently do not have natures/traits. But I suppose the admins could add lion natures/traits as well if they like. I just wante a fun way for cubs to be born with personality. :) 0 players like this post! Like? |

I see that as a bad idea because everyone has their own way of roleplaying. Limiting them to a trait would be.... not so efficient. After all everyone gives the personality and trait to their lions that they imagine it to have. They arent limited, which is necessary if you want imagination to run wild. This way you would force someone to have... I dont know.... a bad natured, possessive lion, while they actually aimed for a completely good and generous lion because they imagined roleplaying as one. I think we should let everyone roleplay a lion as they wish and not tie them and limit them, force an aspect onto them. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I see your point, but I look at it a different way. First and foremost, there is no rule saying you have to play your lions the way the site assigns them. For instance: many people just ignore their lion's karma score. They don't role play or they have different in-game goals than roleplay goals, so they just pretend it isn't there. People uninterested in natures or wanting something different could do the same. Or there could be some items you could buy to change natures, just like with karma. To address the point of not wanting personalities assigned, I look at it like this: Some people may be able to make up characters on their own from a blank slate and that's totally fine. But what about people just starting out but having trouble being creative? Or those of us that are getting bored with everyone roleplaying the same character types? What if, like my lion's parents, I wanted a good cub but got a rotten one--wouldn't that make my stories more interesting? Life gives us unexpected things sometimes, that's what makes everyone's life experiences different. If Role Play is supposed to imitate life, wouldn't that make things more interesting? Force people to think outside of the box to make their stories play out? I for one, think it would make the roleplays go in directions that the authors never imagined--which to me, sounds really fun. :) Again, if people don't like it, they could just ignore it like many do with karma and RP however they want. 0 players like this post! However, please note that personalities for lionesses -or in this case lions too- for example very heavily would affect gameplay, thus people who dont want their lions in that personality cannot ignore it. later there will be karma specific items implemented and karma will have a greater role, so one wont be able to ignore that either. In that case, it is limiting people. People who just start out with roleplaying, they can learn along the way. They will never get creative if you hand them everything over. They have to start using their imagination. Or roleplaying might be not their strongest points simply. Some people have trouble doing so. Not because of the game, just naturally. 0 players like this post! Like? |

It wouldn't be like karma, so the items wouldn't relate. Honestly, as a teacher and an artist, I find it to be true in both cases that a blank slate is terrifying sometimes. If you give people a prompt it can often help release the creative flow. Instead of saying "here's a blank canvas, make a masterpiece" or "here's a blank sheet of paper, make an amazing story" you can give them prompt words like " draw/write a character that is happy-go-lucky" or "mischevious" or "klutzy" and that gives them a place to start. Doesn't mean you can't have a good klutzy lion or a bad klutzy lion, they just have this trait that makes them more interesting. Again, I really don't see the problem with just ignoring the trait/nature if you don't like it. It's just a word on your lion's page, it's not like the RP ban hammer is gonna come down if you don't play your lion the way the trait is listed. xD You could always put a note in your den or on the lion's page that you don't use those. For instance, when I play pokemon and it assigns natures to the pokemon, I usually ignore it unless the nature sparks an idea for an interesting character or drawing. *shrug* I'm not trying to be argumentative, I understand that some people won't want the trait to be true for their lion on account of a story. And that's fine. Because I feel it can be easily ignored (as I'm not proposing that it effect game play in any way with items or events) and don't see that as a reason not to do it. 0 players like this post! Like? |
