This was rejected because it looks "flat" and I agree. I was told that the design details are good, but the shading needs work. I can not shade to save my life! I have tried several different ways and it always looks like a paper mario reject! Is there anyone that could shade this for me? I'll pay you for your time (GB/SB of course!)

Ahh here's an example I made for the way I shade. C: ![]() The knot is a three d object, so there's more than just the shading on the side away from the sun, unless there's lighting from the bottom. ![]() Edited on 19/03/15 by Shyre ||FL+FoB+VS|| (#35539) |

Good now have a small area where the light would be hitting each coil of the rope rather than all of them in the same way :3 (In the darkened bit) ![]() |

It prolly is. But like Shy said, maybe add some shading per each section of the rope too. ![]() |

I really dig it. Sure, nooses can be sensitive. But it's not like it'll be available free to everyone. If it's something you think'd look dashing on your lion, you can buy it. If people have triggers from a cartoon lion with a noose, they can turn off their CD settings. C: I really dig it. I think the current shading is rather nice. However, since the actual rope is so short, why not add some sort of fraying to the end, as if your lion escaped sudden death by swiping a paw or gnawing it loose? I honestly think too much shading would depreciate the look, because it's harder to see. ![]() -I added brown tones as a blend between the light and dark of the noose. You don't have to pick this colour, but a more gradual gradient shade may help the soft look of a rope. -I added just a bit of shading where most needed, such as around the ends of the rope meeting the lions neck, and in between the coils of rope. Adding darker shades in select places can give it a more 3d feel. -I added a fray to the rope. Something like this adds more character to the item and looks a bit more realistic for a shorter rope noose. You don't have to take any of this to heart, but if you do, I hope it helps somewhat. ^_^ Nice work on this! If I bought one I probably wouldn't pay more than 6gb. Between 5-6 seems like a good number. C: ![]() |

@Icy thanks! I actually tried fraying the rope.. but it just didn't work. I'll try again though as I really like how it looks! I'm definitely liking your shading, *eyes it while trying to figure out my current shading* ![]() |

The key is to just be subtle with the shading. I like the current super darks you've got on the rope already, but when you go from super dark to super light with no in-between shade, it's just a little bit harsh I think. Definitely a better rope noose than I could do, though, surely. :D For the fray, just don't make the threads all uniform or even facing the same way. When rope splits, it can wind up in any direction. xD Try a few different ways and get a feel for which you like best. I'm glad I could be of some help, i'll be eyeing this thread from now on! :D ![]() |
