The Earth Kingdom College of Bending consists of four schools for each of the four elements. Each is separate, however held together under one college. Typically a student is sent as a boarding student, where they live on campus for ten years or more. Classes typically go from dawn until noon or from noon until dusk, with breaks for meals in between. Classes go from monday until friday, with the weekend free for the students to do as they wish. Enrollment is entirely free, because so few students are permitted to study there. Each school has its own rules, which all students under the school must follow despite which campus grounds they are on.

The college is centered in the Outer Wall of Ba Sing Se, so it is not a very long journey to reach one of the most important cities should one need to. However, the college is not surrounded by its own city. The only living arrangements are the dorms provided by each of the schools within the college. Each school has to accommodate the Earth Kingdom landscape to match its needs. For instance, the School of Waterbending sits atop a large water reserve filled from a nearby lake so the students are always able to preform their bending; the School of Firebending is arid and mostly free of shrubbery to prevent fires from getting out of hand; etc.

The School of Waterbending

The School of Waterbending of the Earth Kingdom College of Bending focuses primarily on the three types of water bending: fighting, healing, and blood bending. Fighting and healing classes are more common, as blood bending is rarely ever achieved even by the greatest.

Housing is fairly simple in this school. Simply live where you wish, so long it is on School of Waterbending grounds. There is no dress code aside from no nudity, and the rules are fairly simple. The students in this college are treated with respect and as adults, although some do enroll at a young teen age. Because there is adult freedom, there is also adult punishment if rules are broken.

The dean of the School of Waterbending is Miakoda Soto. She has been the dean of the school for fifteen years, having first taught the defensive fighting class at the school for thirty years.

Bloodbending Classes - Introductory Course (Year One), Amateur Bloodblending (Year Two), Intermediate Bloodbending (Year Three), Advanced Bloodbending (Year Four), Bloodbending Research Class (Year Five), Bloodbending Practice Class (Year Six), Bloodbending Perfection Classes (Year Seven to Nine), Mastery Bloodbending (Year Ten).

There are strict rules that follow the classes allowed at the Earth Kingdom College of Bending. Bending is allowed, however under no circumstances is it to be used in a malignant way against another student, School of Waterbending or otherwise. Bloodbending when not in class is forbidden, and preforming bloodbending on another student without spoken instruction from both the master and the consent of the other student is taboo and will result in permanent expulsion.

The School of Firebending

The School of Firebending focuses primarily on all firebending and lightningbending. The lightningbending classes are not as full as the firebending classes because generally students must go through their firebending classes before being able to join the class.

Housing is separated into male and female dorms for those who are not married. The opposite sex is allowed into the dorms, but not overnight. The rules tend to be stricter, and punishments do as well. A school dress code is enforced, prohibiting derogatory clothing, but students are allowed freedom of clothing. Students are treated as adults, and adult punishments are in place as well.

The dean of the School of Firebending is Lee Shang. He had taught at the school for fourty-one years before taking place as the dean, and has only been in position for a year.

Any rules that are broken regarding bending will result in immediate expulsion. Absolutely no offensive bending is allowed outside of class. Even if no one was harmed, if the behavior was reckless enough that someone could have been harmed, the student is put on probation. One failure on a test or another reckless performance will result in expulsion.

The School of Eearthbending

The School of Earthbending focuses on fighting earthbending and metalbending. Metalbending classes are not as full as the earthbending classes, but are more abundant than bloodbending and lightningbending classes.

Like most of the schools, housing is simple. A student may reside wherever he wishes in this school, and dorms are co-ed. Dress code is simple and simply prohibits nudity and only undergarments. Being the only nation living on its own land, students are able to live within Ba Sing Se and travel to and from classes each day. It is not required to live on campus, however it is preferred by many.

The dean of the School of Earthbending is Ren Kadam. He had studied under the college for fifteen years before becoming a master and teaching in the city, and became the dean less than five years ago.

The only rule about bending that the school has is to not use it in a malignant way. Whether it is against the environment or another student, it is not allowed. One warning will be given before students are put on probation, which if rules are still being broken, expulsion will result.

The School of Airbending

Because there are very few students in this school, the School of Airbending focuses primary on not just bending, but all aspects of the Air Nomad culture. Culture and history classes are given alongside bending classes. Airbending practices such as males shaving their heads and the customary tattoos are typically followed, however not enforced. The students of this school are very close, and typically are related to one another somehow, even if it is a distant relation.

There is only one dorm where all the students reside. Each student is allowed his own room with plenty of space left over in the dorm, however a few do choose to have a roommate or two. Because everyone knows everyone, there are no rules; only common sense. Rules have not been needed to be put in place yet because of the close-knit school.

The dean of the School of Airbending is Yesubei Fong. She is the youngest of all the deans, even though she had studied at the college the longest: twenty-three years. She then taught Air Nomad culture for five years, then ascended to the position of dean and has currently been there for five years.

The School of Airbending has punishments like any other school. Malignant and reckless bending results in a warning and then expulsion, however no incident has ever occurred. Flight is encouraged, as is all benign bending.

Description - The airbender is of average height for his age, standing at around 6'2''. His build is rather leaner than it is bulky, but that is because of his style of fighting, which relies on agility rather than brute strength. That doesn't mean he is skinny; his muscles are defined, but not as built as an earthbender, to say. He has a strong core and upper body, helping him with a deadly aim with knives.

His skin is of average color, a bit on the paler side because he burns easily when in the sun. Which being an airbender, is unfortunate. Cultural tattoos wind down all his limbs and head and meet together on the small of his back. Generally, he doesn't have his hair as short as it is currently, but to get the tattoos that signified the start of his monk practice class, he had to shave his head. Its length is now no longer bald, but shaved rather short. It is dark brown in color when left in the sun, but since these are his roots, it is black. He's planning to keep it at a short, shaved length the entirety of the school year to help his grade in the class, but since it isn't required, he isn't sure how far into the year he'll keep it. His eyes are a dark amber.

Because of his fair complexion that burns easily, Sohan can often be seen wearing long-sleeved shirts and hats to prevent a burn. He mainly wears his nation's clothing, or something in similar colors of yellow, gold, orange, bronze, or amber. If it's hot enough outside, he'll wear short-sleeved shirts and deal with the sunburn after.
Personality - Generally speaking, Sohan is a mysterious one. While he loves a good read and just wants to be left alone at times, he is also known as one of the more social airbenders. He isn't afraid to make friends, despite what nation they're from, and isn't known to hate crowds. That said, there are times when he wishes everyone would go away or even flies off to some remote place and stays there for a week at a time. When with friends, he is the life of the party, whether a good or bad thing. He does tend to be flirtatious, especially when he's had a few drinks. His mood tends to fluctuate, and could even be described as bipolar. It all depends on what's going on in his life at the time, or if he happens to remember some random memory that drastically changes his mood.

He is always one seeking knowledge, whether on his bending, nation's history, or random facts picked up here and there. It's clear that one day he hopes to become the dean of the School of Airbending, since it's all he talks about. His school is important to him, and however he manages to juggle school and a social life is a mystery. Occasionally he'll slip up and forget a due date or such, but he keeps his grades so high in the classes that the missed projects don't matter much. While he knows of his nation's culture and history, he isn't too keen on practicing any of the ancient ways. He tends to have a more modern outlook on society, always looking forward towards what they could do rather than dwelling on the history. This attitude is reflected in his beliefs; he tends not to hold grudges, but of course there are exceptions.

One of the reasons he wishes to become the dean is because he knows he will have to follow the monk practices of his people's culture. On his own, he knows he wouldn't. He's also hoping that the practices will clear his head and help with his rather bipolar outlook on things. Although he hates to admit it, he really is a pessimist and tends to have an explosive temper at times. If he strives to become the dean, he knows that he will work more to control himself.
History - Since the monk practices are followed by few of the Air Nomads, Sohan grew up in a full family. With his parents and two siblings, two younger sisters, the family was healthy. Although they didn't follow the monk practices, his family was still nomadic like most of the Air Nation. His family had residence in all four of the temples, and was fairly well known. His mother was a renowned scholar of his people, and while she was not part of their government, was well respected by those that were. His father was a water bender from the Southern Tribes, and a well-known warrior. All young airbenders were encouraged to practice bending, and Sohan did. He began experimenting with his bending at a young age of four, where he accidentally knocked over his mother's expensive glassware. As his two sisters came along, he found out that he was the only one of their children that could bend. Of course, he showed off as much as he could.

By the age of twelve, his parents trusted him enough to fly on his own and not have to ride on his mother's bison. As they made their way to the Western temple, Sohan was knocked out of the air by a sudden gust. He landed in the Fire Nation's capital, and was taken care of for a few weeks until his family managed to locate him. There, he met one of his greatest friends, a firebender named Haru. Since then, he visited Haru every time his family made their annual trip to the Western temple. He and Haru got themselves into incredible trouble, including an incident involving the Fire Princess and a bunch of Raven Eagles. He got accepted into the college at age of sixteen, and spent most of his time there, dividing his break times up between his family and Haru. One break when he was visiting with Haru, seventeen years old, a messenger hawk came from the Western temple. The message enclosed the deaths of his two sisters and father, killed by bandits. His mother was held for ransom, an amount that he could never afford. After grieving, he and Haru raised enough money to cover most of the payment, and the rest was paid for by the Air Nation.

With his mother back, Sohan spent most of his time at her side during his breaks from school and began to practice his bending more intensely. He even picked up another form of self defense, knives. Since the death of everyone but his mother, his mood had changed and progressed into what it is now. However, it also drastically changed his outlook on life. He became more focused on his bending, and took a seriousness in his life that he hadn't seen before.

Description - Asthore is shorter than most at the college, because she is on the younger side of the age spectrum. While she certainly isn't the smallest, she does fall short of most people. Standing at only 5'2'', the freshman can be hidden from view when in a crowd most of the time. Her physique is average for her age, not being too thin or overweight with just the right about of curve to her body. She isn't very strong physically, but her small stature allows her to be fast.

Because she spends a lot of her day outside, her skin is a healthy, glowing tan and has been her entire life. She doesn't burn easily, although she likes to head inside after being out for too long just in case. Naturally, her hair color is a dark brown, however it's lightened naturally on the top layer from the sunlight to almost a light brown. Various lighter streaks line her hair as well, all depending on which strands are in the sun the most. Her eyes are a warm hazel, flecked with specks of brown, golden, and green and lined by thick eyelashes.

She prefers to wear her nation's clothing, however it is not suitable to the incredible temperature change between the Northern Tribe and the Earth Kingdom. Instead, like a lot of the other students in her school, she wears alternative versions more suited for the hot weather. The clothing ranges from a skirt with leggings, thin pants, shorts, tank tops, short sleeved shirts, or thin long sleeved shirts. She can be seen wearing any combination of the tops and bottoms, depending on the weather of that day.
Personality - Although her looks may suggest otherwise, she is actually rather shy and reserved. It's not because she doesn't like people or making friends, she has plenty of friends to talk to; all that she knew before coming to the college. But being around so many people of so many different ages and so many different levels of bending intimidates her. The vastness of the college and how she'll never know everyone's name in her beginning waterbending class intimidates her. Back home, she had no problem and loved to show off. But realizing being one of the best back home and suddenly being surrounded by others who consider her hardest bending style amateur, that took a toll on her. She definitely is not used to being on the bottom of the totem pole, and that realization was one that hit her hard.

Asthore is one who loves learning. She could bury her face in a book or scroll and not be seen until she was finished reading it fully through and examining all its part and pieces. But, that learning had all been done on her own in the past. Now, being assigned readings and practices, she's still trying to get used to the pace of things at the school. It's a lot faster than what she's used to, just another thing to add to the intimidation of the school. She knew that it would be hard, but she was one of the very few who got in, she told herself, and she got in for a reason.

Once she gets past the stress, she is a friend like no other. Most importantly, she is a loyal friend and will always tell the truth, whether good or bad. She tends to be a bit pushy or rude at times, but only means the best for all of her friends, even if they hadn't known each other for long. The friends she keeps are true friends; none of those 'Oh I know your name' friends. She knows who she hangs out with, and knows when she's getting into bad company. When around those she likes or even thinks is remotely cute, she smiles a lot. That's how her friends can tell if she likes someone: the smile. While she'll absentmindedly give a little flirt here and there, she is too scared to ask someone out herself, and prefers the person she likes does it to save herself from embarrassment if they should say no.
History - As a child in the Northern Tribe, Asthore had a fairly normal life. She was young and like all young kids who figured out they could bend, was ecstatic. Her mother enrolled her in the healing schools, because she did not think that her child was old enough to learn fighting yet. But for Asthore, healing wasn't enough. She enrolled herself into a waterbending class, after forging her father's signature. For a month, every day she sneaked off to attend the class in the morning and arrived back before her parents were back from the markets. One day when she was eleven, she got badly injured in training. She was taken to a healing facility, where her mother happened to be one of the healers.

After her secret was out, her parents refused to let her return to continue her training. It wasn't until a seal attacked as they were traveling from the city to a small village that they allowed her to continue. She had saved them with her waterbending, and her parents saw her skill in the art. Until her fifteenth birthday, she hadn't heard about the Waterbending School at the Earth Kingdom College of Bending. After finding it out, she desperately applied to get in, but her letter missed the cutoff date by a week. She had to wait two more years until she could be accepted, but got in with flying colors when the next enrollment time came around.
