Credit: Insane + Baroness + Mayala + wayward angel + Cfux + me + others i may have missed Chat gets dark, really, really quick, so, shut down chat/clear chat/time out button for chat, just clears all messages on main chat, for staff. Mayala - Maneater (#32018) I'm thinking a "Time out, kids" button would be good. Shut down the chat altogether for a few minutes, that way everyone has a chance to cool down. Simply clearing the chat can still let the heated topic fester. Me in response: what if a staff member ''shuts down chat'' and the message displays Yo, calm down kids. This topic aint for chat. Go take a #;## minute break. Off to the corner with you. and it would be different for each staff xD |

....well you've done it... now I'll have to change my name to "Inane" :I I hope you're happy *sobsob* I think the only way it will work if you have a legit "Time Out" where main chat cannot be accessed. If you just delete the chat then the people arguing are just going to continue. So chat shuts down for a few minutes. People have time to calm down, and if they try to bring it back up then temp ban them. Cause sometimes they just don't care and are dead set on trolling. ![]() |

Sounds like a plan. It just sucks for the people who had nothing to do with the topic. xD o3o But, I'll watch this thread, and I just might click that little support button owo ![]() |

I like the idea and support it! yeah sucks for those who had nothing to do with it, but they can easily hop over to inbox to continue chatting with their friend, that or simply wait a couple minutes. not too long to be an inconvenience at all ![]() |

Definitely, even though sometimes the topics are serious, they aren't usually for chat. I agree that these topics should stay in private! Supported! *Two big toes up* ![]() |

Eh, I don't support anything that would make chat unavailable for /everyone/, even if they weren't involved. That's just not fair, and chat is a useful tool. A 5-minute (or whatever) chat "ban" that acts as a timeout for all involved I'd support. A bit more work on the mod/admin end, I guess, since they'd probably have to hand out the timeouts individually rather than just pressing one button to turn off chat for /everyone/, but definitely the option I'd prefer to see (or something similar). ![]() |

But if handing out timeouts for the participants, it would mean more things to do for staff, doesn't it? And i heard mod/admins where pretty busy all-year-round ![]() |

No support. I agree that making chat disappear for everyone, not just those involved, would be unfair. What if you have a question you'd like someone to answer or you're in the middle of an unrelated conversation or something? I think mods being able to hand out chat timeouts to individuals will only make things worse - the user might get angry at the mod and start sending the mod PMs, or people might PM mods to ask them to remove users they don't particularly like, etc. And what's to stop a mod just shutting chat up if they personally don't like someone? Mods aren't exactly rigorously tested when chosen. I'd support it if admins only could do it, but as Assassin said, the admins are super busy as it is and don't have the time to keep pinging users individually. So, yeah, it's a nice idea, but it won't work with the playerbase as it is. People should just respect the mods more as it is and learn to drop a subject when it is requested, not keep arguing for the sake of it. Edited to add: thinking about it some more, chat already has a self-timeout function for people to use if they don't like what's being said. I use it a lot when chat gets too dark/argumentative. So I don't think we need a mod-authorized one. ![]() Edited on 01/09/15 by Robin {bad kitty} (#52813) |
