Work, Ford had to admit, was tiring.

All day and all night, he stayed up in his small apartment, working on experiments with caged creatures in the room. Luckily, the person owning the place was aware of the characters' existence, and he hardly batted an eyelash at Ford's experiments, even when it caused some disruptions in other rooms. It was always just another excuse, and Ford was thankful.

Today, things were going to be a little different. Ford grabbed his bag, opening the door to Apartment 116 and locking the door behind him quickly. He didn't want anyone looking inside, even for a moment. After that was out of the way, he went to an elevator, hit GF, and went down to the ground floor. Today, he was going to go out into town. Today, he was going to actually sit down and drink something other than random tap water from his sink, which he had grown attached to.

Today, he was going to go to the coffee shop. Maybe the general store to pick up some groceries.

Connor woke up in his bed with a yawn. Well, a new start to the day in this universe. Mangle sat in the Apartment Lobby, bored with nothing to do. Getting up, she went wherever her legs took her, and almost walked right into Standford. "Oh, hello Standford. Nice to see you." she simply said, smiling. She considered Standford a friend, even if she didn't see him often. She played with her pink shard on the necklace that kept her in her human form. How she yearned to be an animatronic now. Connor stared at the cat symbol shaped watch on his wrist, and the buttons. He pressed the right button the allowed him to shift into a cat, and in a moment was a feline. "About the first time I've shifted during the day, then again I have to wait until night to become Cat, as I am often referred as in my night form." he muttered to himself, and jumped up on his bed again. Staring blankly at his window, he hoped his friends would come along soon.

Hearing someone say his name, Ford turned to see a young woman standing behind him. He smiled at her in a friendly way, naturally. He was alright with most people, although he never let anyone near his apartment. "Ah, hello Mangle. How's life treating you? I was just about to head out to the cafe to catch a cup of coffee."

He was, naturally, quite a bit older than most people living in the apartments. Most people his age had already retired to a small house or, if they were unlucky, to a nursing home. Someone would literally have to fight Ford before he did that, and trust me, you wouldn't want that to happen.

"Life's good so far. How about for you?" Mangle replied cheerfully. She smiled in a friendly way as well. "I actually don;t have much to do at the moment, since I'm off from work today." she added in. She wondered if she should tell Standford about her animatronic form. She trusted him with the information, but wasn't sure how he would react. Weighing the options in her head, she decided to tell him later. it was too early in the morning for too much shock, anyway, right?

"I guess you could join me, then." He spoke, thinking. It might seem strange, an older guy going to a cafe with a girl Mangle's age, but perhaps people would pass it off as a family thing. People tended to do that.

But, of course, something was eating at him. He was sure other characters felt that way by how many people he saw looking over their shoulder nervously, as if something was watching them. Something just around the corner, but unseen. What was going to happen?

Ford pushed that to the back of his mind. "Well, I'm not getting any younger. Let's go, then." He hadn't even told Mangle where he was from, but he figured she was also from the pocket dimension. It was just something about the way she acted.

Jackie sat in one of the cushioned chairs at the ground floor of the apartment building. She had her laptop on her lap and a coffee mug in her hand. Usually, she did her writing in her apartment, where she could talk out loud to herself and make weird faces and sound out how words flowed together. Today, though, she was people-watching. Her story was ready to introduce a new character, and she needed something to base if off of. It could be anything from an entire person to a simple phrase they said or body movement. She simply needed inspiration, and the plethora of people that populated the building were her perfect pool to pick from. Now, she just had to wait.

Waiting was usually awkward, though. A receptionist would usually be at the desk, so she couldn't just sit there doing nothing until someone came by. She had to pretend to be working, and all the time. So she typed nonsense and song lyrics into a draft Word document until someone should catch her eye. And someone did: two people, actually. An older man and a younger girl. Huh, this would be fun. Quickly, she started typing actual words.

Macavity's fingertips played with the simple steel ring on his left hand, third finger. He wasn't used to it yet. Same with this whole town. The people here were nice, cheery, innocent. Easy. Naïve. They needed someone like him in this town, or so it seemed. Someone to pick out the stronger ones from the weak and make them stronger. Make them leaders. Make them great. And he was just the ca- no, the human to do it. Right. Don't slip up. Ever. Similar thoughts flew through his head as he walked leisurely down the street. He stopped near a trash can, pulled out a new cigarette, and lighted it up with a lighter he kept in his pocket. He always kept it handy, just in case he was in the mood.

"I'd be glad to do so!" Mangle replied, and walked to the coffee shop with Ford. Still fiddling with the pink shard necklace, it almost slipped off. One could see an animatronic ear for a split second. It disappeared as she caught the shard and placed it back on. "Whoops, sorry about that." Perhaps later meant now. She needed to tell him. "Listen, Ford... there's something I need to tell you. Can i trust you to keep it a secret?" she asked nervously. Her hand stilled near the necklace, ready to pull it off and shift into her animatronic form. "But I'll need to show you somewhere private, so nobody else finds out."

Before he could start off towards the shop, Ford saw someone out of the corner of his eye with a laptop. Something told him that this girl wasn't ordinary, but he decided against talking for now. He was going to catch something that was actually alright to drink and wasn't tap water. However, he did smile in her direction and gave her a six-fingered wave before following Mangle out the door.

Not long into walking, Mangle slipped up, and Ford's suspicions were correct. When Mangle tried to correct herself, he simply chuckled. "I guess I was right after all! You don't have to show me anything. I'm just like you." He stressed that last sentence. He wasn't going to say any specifics yet, but...

Hey, what harm would it do to state that?

Jackie paused for a moment as the man waved at her. Whoops. Awkward. He'd seen her. But- did he have six fingers? Whoa. Way cool. Adding that... now. her experienced hands continued typing even as she watched the pair leave. Nuh-uh, I'm not letting you two get away that easily. This was getting interesting, and plot twists and turns were already forming in her head. She shut her laptop, put on a pair of sunglasses that were in her pocket, and headed out into the cool fall air. She wouldn't be too creepy... just, average-creepy. She stayed far behind the pair, crossing her arms over her chest to keep off the harsh wind. Goodness, the things she did for her stories. Hopefully she wouldn't freak them out. They seemed to be grandfather and granddaughter, or if she was really off, daughter and father. Either way, she wasn't going to miss this opportunity.

"You are? yeah, I'm not exactly human... I'm an animatronic." Mangle sheepishly told Ford. Noticing Jackie coming up, she jumped. "Oh, hey Jackie! I'm assuming you heard my secret... just promise not to tell anyone else?" she quickly asked, whipping around to face Jackie. Seeing as nobody else was around to see them, she took off the necklace. Right before their eyes, she transformed into a, well, mangled, animatronic with nearly the entire endoskeleton showing. "Well, this is my animatronic form. This is why I call myself Mangle." she admitting, the endoskeleton head by her side nodding.

Whoa, WHOA. Hearing someone walking up, Ford quickly pushed Mangle into an ally before Jackie could see. Nope, not breaking The Council's rules tonight!! He nervously smiled at the human, offering a hand.

"A-Ah... Hello! Name's Stanford, and that was my... Daughter. Yeah, that's right! She was just, uh... Showing me her Halloween costume, that was all! Impressive, but it needs to have a few tweaks..."

Mangle I'm covering so hard for you right now you better not mess this up.

Jackie stood there for a moment, perplexed. What... what had just happened? That sure hadn't looked like a costume... She slowly shifted her laptop under her other arm and took the hand and shook it. "Um. Nice to meet you. But it seems... you already know me? How did she know my name was Jackie?" Carefully, she leaned forward to look down the ally at Mangle, to see what had become of her. This... this was weird. And definitely going in her blog today.

She just hoped they didn't kidnap her or something.

"Ha, well, you see... Uh, Mang is actually planning on being... A professional costume designer! Yeah, you know, the ones in the movies! A lot of those look real, hard to believe they're costumes, right?" Keep on talking, Ford. Let Mangle put the necklace back on so you can scold her later.

"Anyway, Mang knows a lot of people. She tends to overhear conversations, but... I guess she forgets, aha... So your name's Jackie? Nice to meet you."

"Whoa!" Mangle yelped in a glitched voice as she was pushed into an alley. "Sorry... i was just hoping two people knowing wouldn't make a difference...." she sighed. Going along with Ford's story, she made something up quickly. "Yeah! Just a Halloween costume, the good ones come early, y'know. It has a voice manipulator and everything." she lied, the missing eye's glowing iris shining. the endoskeleton head started to nod, then stopped as she shot it a dirty look.

Connor, bored and having nothing to do, walked out of his room and house, and into the outside world. "Hopefully nobody suspects a blue cat, maybe they'll think I'm grey instead." he thought to himself as he walked toward the street, looking both ways then crossing. He then noticed Macavity and quickly lept up into the nearest tree. "Oh, hey-" he stopped himself, remembering that normal cats don't talk. Hopefully Macavity would think it was just his imagination and pass it off like nothing.
