In addition to his human form, Niko has two other forms- the strzygón form and his owl form.

His hands are rough and calloused and his body is covered in all kinds of little scars. The pinky on his right hand is crooked from pounding at the basement door at his home and eventually breaking it.

His body is more lean than bulky muscle, which is why he isn't enthusiastic about fighting in his human form as people larger than him will likely have the advantage over him. He isn't particular about his appearance and he doesn't have a problem walking around with hair disheveled from sleep. His eyes are deep, chocolatey brown and before he shifts into either form, his eyes become alight with a yellow glow and that's the best indication of him shifting.

Niko has a heavy Polish accent that is neither overly deep or high. It sort of has a velvety edge to it. When he's bordering on the edge of shifting, his voice tends to sound deep and scratchier.

Strzygón

A strzygón is a vampiric demon in Polish folklore. It is born to human parents, but has two hearts, two souls, and two sets of teeth. Often a child born with already developed teeth was said to be a strzygón.

When a strzygón dies, only one soul passes into the afterlife. The other soul reanimates the corpse and begins to prey on the living. At night, the strzygón flies around by transforming into an owl and attacks travelers or those who are lost in the woods. It drinks their blood and eats their internal organs. It can also foretell a death in a family if family members hear it wailing at night.

It can be killed by cutting off its head and burying it separately from its body. A person likely to become a strzygón can also be prevented by burying the body face-down with a sickle around its head.
Powers:
Niko has no other powers other than shapeshifting between his forms, but most of the time they're not totally of his own will. He will change into an owl at night and become a demon when he loses control of his hunger, though when that does happen, it's more likely to happen during the evening. During mornings, he is more lethargic.

In his demonic form, Niko loses most ability to reason with others and he becomes a more primal being with a hunger for flesh. His demon form is well muscled with a mouth full of sharp teeth and a long tongue. His hands have long claws and his back legs have shorter claws. His eyes have a bright yellow glow to them with no pupil or iris. He tends to stay on four legs with a loping sort of gait, but will stand on two legs when trying catch the traces of scents.

He doesn't tend to keep anything with him other than a vial stuffed with a bloody piece of beef liver that is kept around his neck with a gold chain. The vial is stuffed into his shirt to avoid question, even though the vial is silver and people cannot see what's inside.

Personality summary:
Niko's ultimate goal is to take from others. This roots from his unfortunate upbringing and instincts as a strzygón. In a way, he seeks revenge on the human world for how he was born and his abandonment. He tends to get very jealous of others with sometimes little reason at all. Niko doesn't interact with others much, especially not humans as he sees them as food to fill the void in his hunger. Even when he's not hungry, he tends to avoid them because he fears he will become attached to what he sees as his food and as a result will become soft.

He refuses to change in his ways, but was sent to the academy for that reason. He wouldn't ever be at peace if he never came to terms with what he was, but he resents help, bitterly. He is somewhat childish in that respect. But the only thing he finds peace in is nature, despite being abandoned there as a child. While he's had to kill animals to satisfy his hunger, he has a special sweetness for horses, as the old wizard who took him in. He bonded with the horses, resisting the temptation to attack them, but he was never left alone with them and the wizard would watch him and make sure, if anything went wrong, he'd be able to subdue the young demon.
