It started with a rumble.

In the plains of the lands of Alikai, horses are many. For generations they have roamed freely, untouched by humans or predators. However, when the ground first started shaking underhoof, it was apparent something was wrong. Rocks fell from the cliffs above. Trees were toppled by an unseen force. It was almost as if the fates had swept past, flattening almost everything in their path.

You are one of the survivors of this disaster. Whether you band together with other survivors or roam on your own, you must find a place to stay and call home once again. But will it be as safe as Alikai? Will you survive the rumbles?

It all begins here, in this broken plain.

---

Current Location: Alikai

Season: Spring

Weather: There is still dust and dirt in the air from the earthquake's damage. It's overcast.

Avari || 4 years || Stallion
Alikai || N/A

This was bad. This was really bad.

At the time of the quake, Avari had been grazing in the early morning's light. The sun had been out, the birds chirping. Horses everywhere were happy, chattering about the recent events or just in general. It was like nothing could go wrong.

But it did.

Suddenly, the birds stopped chirping. The group began to slightly shake under Avari's hooves. He looked up as one stallion gave a whinny of distress, of warning, only to have a rock fall around his area, as the stallion was around the cliffs. Avari didn't wait to see if it hit him or not. He was sure other rocks would fall, so he quickly galloped away from the cliffs. The ground began to crack, and he soon lost track of time, lost track of everything.

Next thing he knew, it was over. He was panting, at the edge of the woods, looking out at the disaster. Horses were dead. There were fissures through the plains. The cliffs had partially collapsed. There were survivors, no doubt, but the pinto was shaken. How could something like this happen...?

Navajo || Clydesdale || 8 Years || Stallion || Mentions: N/A

The multicolored clydesdale was grazing peacefully in a field when everything happened. A dark rumble shuttered through the crust of the earth as the dirt started to crack and rocks started to erupt. Rearing back, Navajo snorted before backing up until his rump hit the bark of a tree just behind him. Branches started to tumble down like rain drops, only bigger, and more likely to hurt when they hit you. The stallion toughened up as the earthquake spread throughout the wilderness until suddenly, it drew quiet. Perking his ears, Navajo listened intently. The birds were silent, squirrels weren't chittering amongst the trees. The only thing that made any noise was the rest of the damange caused by the tremors throughout the area.

"This is not good." He grunted.

Dusty / Stallion / 7 years / quarter horse / mentions someone (no indicated)

Dusty opened his eyes. He looked around barely able to see. He felt so unsafe with the tree on his side. It was a smaller tree but since it was on his side her couldn't do anything. He shinned lousy and stressfully for help. Unsure if anyone around heard his calls. He moved his legs and tried to turn himself but his large body made it impossible. He began to stress more so he called out again. This one even more stressed. He knew he had maybe 10 more minutes of Laying like this before his body began to shut down.

Amber||4 years||Mare
--Mentions: Altair

The palomino mare had been up since the rising sun, grazing upon the grass which was softly covered in dew. It had been a lovely morning, the dawn had caused beautiful colours of pale oranges and pinks in the sky. At this moment however she was happily scratching herself upon a tree, the itch was located upon her right shoulder. As she scratched she began to feel the ground move, it was shaking as if a ten thousand hooves were galloping over it perfectly in time. Pulling herself from the trees bark she looked towards the cliff, rocks were crumbling off of it and falling to the earth. Something wasn't right. A crack began to form upon the ground, a fearful whinny she gave before galloping away from where the crack was forming. The Earth was not about to swallow her into its mighty depths, but she had never seen anything like it before. Glad of the shaking to warn her she halted, turning back to look upon the crack that was forming. It was a horrid sight, those who were quick enough falling in and the Earth tearing in half. What had caused this? Why was it happening? The event ended as quickly as it began, although the devastation it had left would surely last a life time. She had lost her brother when she ran, he was off who knows where and she could only hope for him to be safe and well.

Altair||5 years||Stallion

The stallion had still been half asleep when the rumbling started, at first he assumed it to be a group of passing horses. Paying no attention to it until it got more violent he looked up, there was a giant hole in the Earth coming straight for him! Bolting off he galloped as quickly as he could, only wishing to outrun the crevasse forming behind him. Heart pounding, nostrils flaring, he feared for his life. As he ran he dare glimpse behind him, luckily the crack had changed its course. It was now running a couple of meters to his left, although it quickly gained upon the galloping male. Taking his course right he slowed down, breathing heavily from the sudden exertion he had caused himself. The rumbling halted as quickly as it had come, putting his mind at ease that he was safe for now. The first thing on his mind was to find other horses, who knows who had been taken from this land and into the depths. Walking he hoped to find some survivors, even if the company of others was for nothing more than comfort.

Bjorn | 20 Years | Stallion | Reacting to The Quake.

The dark stallion had been peacefully grazing with his herd, staying near his newborn daughter named Fryst for her fleabitten grey coat. She had just been born that morning. But then, the earth began to tremble, fissures opening up and horses panicking. Fryst squealed when a sinkhole occured underneath her, both she and her mother falling meters and meters into the earth suddenly, like a nightmare. Bjorn gasped, whinnying to warn his other mares, who were already long gone. With a snort, the ran far away until the rumbling stopped. His heart was racing as he looked around, terrified. And then he realized... he was alone.

--

Free | 9 years | Mare | Reacting to The Quake.

Free was a happy, lone mare. A free bachelorette. When she saw other horses, she usually left them alone. But now she couldn't. When the earth shook violently, a stampede of horses ran her way, and she began to run. As she did, cracks opened up underneath her, and she had to jump over one. She looked back, seeing other horses get crushed under rocks and fall in fissures. Suddenly, she tripped on a small crack that was growing rapidly, falling in the dirt. But she couldn't stay there long. Free scrambled to get up, barely taking off before the crack swallowed her. The quake had stopped, and she didn't now what to do.

Nami / Mustang / Mare / 4.5 Years
Mentions: n/a

Before the ground shook, Nami was grazing by herself, plenty away from other horses. She knew something was wrong when the other animals fell quiet and were all beginning to move in one direction away from Alakai. She lifted her head, looking for danger. Were the humans coming to round them up? That didn’t seem right. Alakai has been untouched by them for years.

The whole earth began to move, and suddenly a band of horses was stampeding towards her. The bay roan spun around, galloping as fast as she could alongside the group. Some stragglers were swallowed up by gaps forming in the ground. Nami might have been more horrified if it wasn’t the worst thing she’d ever seen in her life.

She ran hard, watching holes form behind, around and in front of her. She leaped over a few, refusing to look and see if those running around her had made it or not. The earth finally seemed to stop, but she kept going until she couldn’t run anymore. She looked around and there were so few survivors. Dust fell through the air.

Of course, everything had been too good to be true. She should have known it couldn’t’ last forever.

Echo / Kiger Mustang / Stallion / 5 Years
Mentions: n/a

Echo was patrolling the outskirts of Alakai when the quake began. He was not spared from disaster, however. The cliffs surrounding the area threw rocks out, as if acting out in anger. Like many of the horses around him, Echo was hit. A shard scraped along his belly, and he shrieked in pain. He turned around and began to run. The tear in his side slowed his gallop, but he needed desperately to get away from the dangerous cliffs.

Grimacing through the pain, he got away from the cliffs and carefully watched the ground, waiting for a terrible chasm to swallow him whole. When the quake stopped, Echo began to stride around, breathing heavy with exhaustion. Some horses had survived, but their numbers seemed low. He called to those around him, unsure what to do next.

Dusty / stallion / 7 / mentions echo (indirectly)

Dusty had called out for help but no one heard him. So he laid down his head and took deep breaths. While he was calming himself though he heard someone. "Hey over here. Help." He shinned as he flicked his tail trying to cause some form of commotion yo draw in help. He knew he didn't have much longer. After all his sides were beginning to get sore and his legs numb.

Snowpaw||4 Years 2 Months||Stallion
~~Mentions: Any

The stallion had no clue what was happening. The ground beneath him was split, gone, broken, shifted. He had never experienced such a quake, and the event left him shaken and lost as in the midst of it. Because he was jumping and panicked, straying far from his unmarked path. as the dust cleared, his disorientation remained a while after, dizzy and blinded from the clouds of dust and debris.

Shaken, he got to his hooves, hearing the distraught faint whinny's and voices. There was a group of horses... One step two? Had he sprained his leg? To walk was painfull, and the Clydesdale found it laborious to breath. A few more steps and he slipped on rocks, face planting. Staying there, he gave a frustrated growl. He couldn't let this beat him, he had to get help. Maybe they would help him? He wasn't sure.

He gave a bellowing like loud whiney, trying to be heard as he forced himself to his hooves again, and made himself press forward. However with each step... the pain will only grow...

Nami / Mustang / Mare / 4.5 Years
Mentions: Snowpaw

Nami heard the cries of many horses. They needed help – no one here had asked for this. Not even she was so heartless to just leave them. She broke into a trot. She suddenly felt very lucky. A large Clydesdale was in her sight, struggling to continue forward. This stallion was obviously injured. Besides being mentally shaken, Nami had managed to escape any physical injury. She saw the rocks in front of the stallion, and knew that he wouldn’t be steady enough to continue that way. She opened her mouth to call to him, but it was too late. It felt like it was happening in slow motion, as he fell. Nami broke into a canter, making the run to the fallen horse. Before she made it over, somehow, he managed to get back on his feet. She came up next to him.

“Hey,” Nami swore under her breath. “Hey – uh – what do you want me to do?”

She wasn’t sure what she could do. This Clydesdale was much larger than her, there was no way she could help him up if he fell again. She wasn’t even sure if he could lean on her for support.

Echo / Kiger Mustang / Stallion / 5 Years
Mentions: Dusty

There was a weak response to his call. Either the horse was far away, or they were in some serious trouble, more trouble than himself. Echo cringed as he began to move again, pushing through the pain, knowing he had to find this other horse.

“I’m coming!” he responded to the plea for help, trudging forward in the direction he heard the voice. He almost didn’t see the stallion trapped under the tree. It was a smaller tree, luckily, but not so luckily the angle was awkward, so the horse obviously couldn’t escape on his own. The quarter horse was breathing heavy, obviously in a panic.

“I’ll try and get you out of here.” Echo made his way to the tree, thinking he could crouch down, slide his head under, and leverage with his neck. It might hurt, both him and the quarter horse, but he had to try. Kneeling next to the fellow stallion, Echo hoped the stranger could calm down long enough to do this.

“When I lift, you’ll have to shimmy your way out. I don’t know how high I’ll be able to prop this tree up.” Echo snaked his head under the tree, getting almost to his withers before he knew this was all the leverage he would get. He pushed his head up, the bark digging painfully into him. Echo grunted, trying to leverage with his legs but several inches of room between the tree and the fallen horse was all he could get. Echo hoped it was enough.

There was some one there, next to him by the sound of it. His eyes took time to focus, hearing slowly focusing on her. She was a petite thing from the looks of it. Not so much a working breed like he was, stout and strong. But she seemed rather nimble, swift even. One step, two, slowly making his way towards her. Silence emitted from her, then a sigh as his head lowered. Maybe a sign of relief? His head rested against the back of her neck, taking the time to gather himself. His long jet black mane was falling against her gently, and for about ten minutes, tail, long and equally jet black, lightly swaying behind him. The length nearly to the ground. He stayed perfectly still before whispers left him. It came in the form of a husky, deep, true Scottish drawl and he was too disoriented to care how he must have sounded, a foreigner to most...

"T-Thanin' ye lass... Was afraid that a(I) was the only one 'ere. It must 'ave been ye(you) a heard before a fell... A donnae(don't) know what happened, and a think there are more who are lost... L-Let me just 'ave a moment... Everything hurts, specially my leg. Must 'ave hurt it when a fell from so far..."

While leaning on her, he had lifted the wounded leg ever so slightly off the ground, easing the pain from it for as long as she would allow before they would continue their journey. Hopefully together... It was calming.. to be found and around another horse since he ran far from the two legs(humans).

He saw the horse and nodded listening to what he was saying. He then calmed down a bit. When he did he felt the tree move off of him so he kicked and tried to get up out from under it. When he was out from under it he got up. He noticed the slightly smaller male. "Thank you." He said as he helped set down the tree. Ignoring his but ing lungs. Welcoming the big deep breaths he was able to take.

Esperanza || 7 Years || Mare
Location: Alikai || Mentions: Dusty, Echo

Esperanza felt the quake before it came as she walked across her favorite field, munching on salt grass. The ground below her trembled slightly, and she responded with a nervous whinny, her pace quickening as she left the area, worried about what might happen if she was caught under the cliffs she had just passed. The quake almost shook her off her feet; she stumbled, stamping her hooves, unable to hold back her nervous nickers and whinnies. She reared, kicking her hooves, and began to run, intending to leave the area, when she heard the distress call of another horse. She raced through the grass without a second thought, coming upon two stallions, which were both hurt. She trotted up and began to lower her head, sniffing at the one who was being picked up, and nickered, nuzzling his head in hopes of using her motherly instincts to comfort him. "I can help you carry him." She offered, looking to the other stallion.

Nami / Mustang / Mare / 4.5 Years
Mentions: Snowpaw

Nami froze as the stallion leaned against her. She tried desperately not to flinch. It had been a while since anyone had touched her. It felt foreign to the reclusive mare. She simply braced herself, keeping a steady stance and allowing the horse to do whatever he needed to do. They stood for what seemed like an eternity, him not speaking, her awkward and unsure what to say. Finally, the male spoke, and Nami listened carefully to decipher his accent. If he wasn’t already out of breath and in pain it might have been a little easier to understand him.

“Yes, it was me. I’m Nami, by the way,” she responded. Figured that if he was going to keep being in physical contact with her, they might as well be on a first name basis. “Just… let me know when you think you can walk again.” She stood still. He was heavy, but Nami could handle it for a little longer. She hoped someone else would come across them soon.

~

Echo / Kiger Mustang / Stallion / 5 Years
Mentions: Dusty, Esperanza

Echo breathed a sigh of relief when the horse wiggled his way out from under the tree with little difficulty. Echo let it slide off his neck and fall on the ground with the help of the other stallion. Carefully, he stood back up, easing his way onto his hooves. He swayed a little unsteadily. God, he really was in pain.

“You’re welcome, I’m glad I came across you.” Echo knew there were already too many dead horses out there after the quake. He didn’t need there to be anymore. Suddenly, a mare was upon them. Echo watched as she comforted the previously trapped horse.

“Thank you, miss,” he responded. He would need the help, the pain in his side was worsening with every physical activity he had to perform.

He nodded to the female and mare. "I'll help you walk if I have to. After all I feel a ton better now that I can breath and stand." He said as he walked over to the males side. "I'm dusty by the way." He said as he introduced himself to the others. He flicked his tail up and then thought. "I could help you or I could go scout for others as long as you guys stay here." He said as he front feet danced. He was ready to look for the others.
