So I have always wanted to make a lion-copy of my cat moxie
WXifon7.pngWXifon7.pngWXifon7.pngWXifon7.png

AND I'm sure I'm not the only one out there! We have enough "feline" markings, why not add some "tabby" or "tuxedo" or "calico" or "tortie" markings in!

tabby: sort of like feline 6 but lighter and in the pattern of a tabby cat with the distinct "M" on the forehead
tuxedo: white markings to make some gorgeous lions look all fabulous (like white blaze but slightly different)
calico: patchy onyx, fulvous or gold tabby patches, all unique and numbered like the current feline markings
tortie: sort of like onyx grit etc but more tortie marking looking-- a more frazzled look than a calico marking

I know cats aren't lions-- but I think these would be fun breed only markings to add :)

if you have an idea or pledge no, I'd love to know why! in the comment section

thank you I supported the other thread, but they're just focused on calico marks! I'll hopefully get some examples up soon <3

Well, you could just add other markings than calico as a suggestion on that thread since it already has a lot of supports? :o

Just an idea!

Feline 6 is basically a tabby marking. One could also argue that Coat and Brindle could give a similar result if layered properly.
Tuxedo can easily be acquired through use of markings like Tip Toe, Genteel, any under/belly marking, etc.
Tortie and calico markings might be hard to implement because of how, by definition, you'd need at least two colors + white per marking. Yes, there are marks like Inferno that have different colors in them, but that's more of a gradient as opposed to separate orange, black, and white areas together. If the pattern was split into separate markings by color, they would need to be designed in such a way that they can be used in conjunction to create the desired effect, at varying opacities and in all marking slots, and ALSO not look weird if you just had one.
No support.

And you forgot torbie. It's tortoiseshell and tabby together, plus it's really cute. There's a pretty torbie cat I want at the animal shelter when I'm able to adopt a new kitty.

Feline 6 and any brindle look nothing like a tabby marking, feline 6 looks like a TIGER marking. Not the same. A domestic feline tabby will always have a distinct "M" on the forehead the the lines arent as thick. The marking itself could have all the colors, and just be called calico if thats an easy solution etc. Even if they were separate markings they wouldnt look werid since they'd be blotches of color that could be quite pretty :)

I made what I think is a passable tabby cat, but we can agree to disagree.

you found a tabby that looks like feline 6 but is an exception to the rule, a lot of tabbys also have spots. plus feline 6 is a dominating mark and cant really be covered over to make any other sort of lion, and looks like a tiger.

just saying

I like the idea but it seems like it needs to be fleshed out a little bit, what with all the layering issues that might pop up and how markings are - as some have said - generally just one color or a gradient. I'd love to see this as a reality, though!

The pictures you posted actually prove that Feline 6 doesn't look like a tiger. Tiger stripes are less dense than tabby stripes and have gaps in their centers.

Here's a super quick orange tabby for you.

Tortoiseshell is actually just a combination of two colors (though it can be more when combined with certain other markings, and tortie-and-white is common and very beautiful.) For a cat to be considered tortoiseshell, it needs to show both a red and a black gene (both carried on the X chromosome, which is why, barring genetic abnormalities, you don't see male tortoiseshells.) Now, in combination with certain modifiers, this can look a variety of different ways. For example, dilute tortoiseshell, which is exactly what it sounds like- a cat both black and red genes as well as a 'dilute' gene that turns that black and red into cream and blue. If tortoiseshell were to be applied as a marking on Lioden, it might make more sense to include a pair of colors in one marking -black/red, onyx/ginger, cream/slate, etc- rather than to have two separate markings to create the effect.

A couple of other things:

- a torbie (tabby tortoiseshell) has patches of red-base tabby and black-based tabby. This can show up in a variety of ways, including grey tabby/orange tabby, red tabby/black (in this case the black stripes wouldn't show, cause, you know, black on black), blue tabby/cream tabby, etc. This would be a little more complex to implement, because it is a combination of two different markings, not a distinct marking separate from tortoiseshell.

-I personally think it would be neat to stay with the black/red pattern- maybe one of the colors always has to be from the black base group?

-Tortoiseshell could work either as a marking or a base (if Xylax were interested in another category of multi-colored bases.) We could have solid/countershaded/tortoiseshell, how cool would that be? They could either be normal or special (personally I would prefer normal, but I'm biased lol)

-a calico is generally a cat with red, black and white; generally there is a significant amount of white cover, often covering the majority of the body. The spots are usually distinct patches, not blurred together the way tortoiseshell can be. Calico is just a term for a specific type of tortie-and-white.

-I really like genetics, if you couldn't tell :P
