Year 3040, humanity became highly advanced, but then...everything changed. Climates became severe...Natural disasters became more common...predators have also become more advanced in their body structures. They've become larger and more coordinated, almost inescapable. Humanity has become confined, one small inhabited area remains. They call it the last hope...but it's more torture than freedom...It has 20 foot stone walls surrounding the entire area, with one opening for exiting and entering that is heavily guarded by mechanical beings, usually former animals that have been captured and corrupted...turned into living machines. The government controls all, the inhabitants of the confined safezone have no say. Us canines are kept in a harsh facility. We are held in cold stone cages with one large glass window that allows the facility workers to watch us. One the opposite side of the stone cage is a sealed door, only openable with special hand prints that the government workers have...life is torture...we are sometimes taken from the cage to be trained...The government has set out to make every canine turn against the residents of "The Last Hope"...To brainwash us. The say fear will keep them from wanting to escape...and it's our job to keep it that way, ours....and the mechanics'... When we are in the cages, we are sometimes let out to a large walled field where there are many other dogs and the floor is stone, we've never felt the grass under our pads... the humans say it "keeps us sane." But they really don't care about us... They don't care if we get hurt in a fight, or get sick...they can just replace the broken parts of us with their mechanical parts, slowly turning us into machines. The dogs all have rankings according to their loyalty level... usually the highest ranking dogs have the most mechanical parts Some dogs can fake loyalty but most times they don't get far. The humans refer to us as one letter and then a number...The letter represents the first letter of your breed...the number is just a way to differentiate you... but every dog knows his or her real name, the human given code is sometimes used as an insult. The government workers all look the same... They wear the same slim white suit. All the dogs are afraid of them...for they have no rules, they treat us how they please...is there any escape...?

Rona | Female | Caucasian Mountain Dog | Beta
Location - The Stone Pasture
Mentions - Dale, Leo

Rona shook the mass of snow from her pelt as she stood up from her nap. Looking around, she could see that many of the other inhabitants were moving around. She could see a few Zetas and Etas who seemed to be conversing a bit, and finally her eyes landed on Dale, who seemed to have found himself a few pup friends. Looking scandalized, as the pups obviously had no idea what that brute could do, Rona trotted closer to where her alpha stood. She noticed however, that the snow was certainly not kind to her mechanical limbs. Muttering under her breath, she stopped and took a moment to watch some of the other dogs having a similar problem. At least they are suffering as well. Rona smirked, which probably made her look demonic, and soon began moving towards Dale again. He is probably looking to start up training again. As she crushed the snow under her paws, Rona spotted Leo standing near one of the massive walls. She nodded in greeting before continuing on her way to her alpha.

Quidam [P-71] | . | Male | . | Polish Tatra Sheepdog Mix | . | Eta
Location | . | The Stone Pasture
Mentions | . | Dale (Indirectly), Myra (Indirectly) and Max (Directly)

~

Nowadays, Quidam woke up to a closed, cold stone cage. Every day, he received the same looks from the humans on the outside. Whether they were different every day or the same was a blur. They were nearly identical to one another, donning the same white lab coats and Quidam never seemed to be able to remember their features. But he could always remember the looks on their faces- disappointment, confused, and a hint of silent rage boiling below. He assumed every day that he was on the chopping block for being put to sleep. How they would do it was a mystery, and the last thing he hoped for would be for him to become a new chew toy for their Alpha, Dale. He'd be an example to all of them what soft-heartedness resulted in.

Shaking these thoughts as he was approached, Quidam stood on his hind legs and made quite the racket. His paws were scrambling on the glass, raking his overgrown nails down its surface. His tail was up and hackles raised as he snarled and barked at the humans on the outside. While his body language suggested he was in a fury, the glint in his eyes spoke other story, one of fear. He swore he could see a smirk in one of the human faces before a buzz sounded and the door outside was opened. Without hesitation, Quidam dropped his act and trotted outside.

Quidam trotted about with the easy rise and fall of his gently lilting in the snow. He'd seen snow before, this was no different. The stone floor hardly made the pasture "outdoors". Of course, he didn't have much knowledge of what that meant, other than the short memory of his pup good on the outside. The time the patrol dog snatched him by the scruff and ran with him. He remembered the dog's sharp, metallic teeth aggressively biting into his scruff to the point of feeling blood dribble from his neck. All that aside, Quidam skirted on the edges of their confines, keeping his head low in a bow upon passing his Alpha from afar. He bumbled along, knowing better than to approach some dogs in the pasture, but some happened to be okay, like Max, a kind hearted soul like himself. He approached slowly, as per usual before flopping down onto his haunches and then easing forward so that he was lying down in the snow. Thankfully, his coat was perfectly equipped for the cold weather and the snow didn't faze him. He looked up at Max whose eyes seemed to be following Myra, a Saluki fae who seemed a bit skittish once she caught sight of Dale. "Has someone caught your eye there, Max?" Quidam asked. His curled tail resting in the snow gave a slight wag.

Eva - Female - German Shepherd - 3 Years 2 Months Old - Eta
Mentions/Thoughts/Interaction: N/A / Dale, Dakota, Arya, Everyone In General / Kai, Open

She had sat briefly in a clump of snow to observe, not entirely minding the coldness that seeped past her fur and chilling her to the bone. Her sharp yellow eyes darted from dog to dog, as she watched them get out of their cages and go about their daily business. Her gaze settled on Dale, and the two pups that seemed to have no clue who they were talking to. "Brave" she muttered to herself, knowing she would never approach him, let alone talk to him if she had a choice, then again its not as if they could tell she disliked all the...interference. She streched her front legs out a bit, the piece of metal in her shoulder making a pop sound before she sat back up straight, she liked to fight way too much.

"Eva!" She heard her name echo slightly and she quickly looked to her right spotted her young colorful friend gracefully bounding over to her. "Hello Kai" she greeted evenly.

Kai - Female - Australian Shepherd - 5 Months Old - Puppy
Mentions/Thoughts/Interaction: N/A / Dale, Dakota, Arya / Eva, Open

Kai gracefully bounded twoards her lean looking friend, who seemed to be observing Dale and his companions. "Eva!" she called out, Evas head had turned towards her instead. Glad that she got the older dogs attention she sat sat her side and looked over at Dale "What are they doing?" she asked curiously, knowing Eva always said never to approach those higher than you unless they approach you first. "They're being nosey...but they'll probably find out if we have anything to do today" the older dog responded dully for a moment then an odd hope glimmered in her eyes. Kai huffed knowing exactly what Eva had been hoping for "Hes not going to you know.." she muttered off and the two watched Dale in wait

the small white huffed, impatient with waiting for the large dog to respond. "Are you broken?" he asked, taking a few small steps forward, his tail held straight. "um..." Dakota stared at the dog with white blue eyes.

Ice stopped her grooming and looked around the Stone Pasture once more. Almost everyone was talking. Yawning, she turned to look at Alpha Dale and the pups. The fae widened her eyes as she heard the pup, Dakota ask one of the most feared dogs if he was broken. Either that pup was really brave or really stupid. She thought. Eh, yeah, he's probably really stupid. She smirked, waiting for the Alpha's response.

(Short, sorry! ^-^" Poor Dakota. xD)

Dale | Male | 5 years 3 months | Great Dane | Alpha |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~ Arya, Dakota {Open}

Dale watched the pups with interest. He might have been proud of the border collie pup’s willing to please the government, but they were none the less annoying. His thought of what to do with them engulfed his mind for a moment, a daydream almost. His mind snapped back to the pups when he heard a potential insult tossed at him from the white pup. His lip curled high, showing his sharp, blade-like, fangs that lined his maw. He gave a quick vicious bark, his flew bouncing a bit. He leaned his neck and shoulders down to the small white fluffball. Narrowed eyes burned into the pup’s pelt, "What did you say" He snarled menacingly, showing his sharp jaws.

Dale thought as though he out’ to feel guilt, scaring a pup and all, but he had none. He was cold and heartless, he truly didn’t feel any remorse from treating a youngling in such a way.

Cyrus | Male | 4 years | Belgian Malinois | Eta |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~ Petra {Open}

Cyrus swung around at the sound of a partially mechanical voice. Petra, He realized. Realization hit him when she whispered in his ear. She faking it... The sable brute thought with slight suspicion, What is she up to..? He asked himself, but Cyrus didn't question her right then and there. He lowered his head slightly and showed his teeth without lifting his lip, a submissive posture. With his tail parallel to his legs and slightly wagging, Cyrus prepared to follow Petra.

His mind raced, he had always seen Petra as a loyal dog, why would she trust him? Maybe she really wasn’t loyal, or maybe she was... His thoughts seemed to take over his mind for a moment, But the sound of dogs snapped him back to reality. He gave his neck and head a quick shake to clear his mind. His neck moved as if he had a mane, swaying from side to side.

Myra | female | 2 years | Saluki | Eta |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~ Dale, Dakota (indirectly) {Open}

Myra sat down on her haunches, her flagged tail slowly swishing across the ground. She turned to look behind her, paranoid that a Zeta or Epsilon was going to see her and accuse her of something, anything. She sighed, why was she to jumpy? Myra didn’t get why even herself was ...skittish. Why couldn’t she be like the other dogs?

The sound of Dale’s harsh bark made her jump once again. She didn’t move, but her hackles raised slightly and she stood from her sitting position. Ugh! She thought to herself, I did it again, She sighed, frustrated with herself. She looked over to dale to see him looming over a small white pup. She gasped, how could he do that to such a sweet little thing!? The tan girl turned her head away from the scene, there was nothing she could do, so why watch?

Leo|male|Tervuren/GSP|Epsilon
Location--Stone Pasture
Mentions--Rona, Dale, Arya, Dakota

The dog dipped his head to Rona as she passed on her way to greet Dale. Speaking of Dale... his gaze darted to where the hulking dog was bristling at one of the pups.
Leo paused. He wasn't going to hurt the pup, right? It was obvious that the clueless pup had said something to offend the Alpha. A little bit of a cuff was reasonable in that situation. Even pups need to know their place.
But he was unsure. In his eyes, Dale was dangerous. Leo couldn't read his motives like the other dogs. Most of the dogs here wore their thoughts on their sleeves, but not Dale. Based on what he did know about Dale's... "winning personality," Leo doubted that he'd think twice at making an example out of a pup.
But then again, why did he care? The pup would've probably gotten in someone's way anyways. Maybe even Leo's.
The dog went back to skirting along the wall, but he kept his eyes on the Alpha.

Max | Male | 1 year 6 months | Siberian Husky | Eta |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~Quidam (directly) Dale, Myra, and others (indirectly) {Open}

Max had been admiring Myra for longer than he would like to admit when his vision was suddenly dominated by white fur. Max refocused his eyes and saw the big fluff ball, Quidam, sitting before him. "Has someone caught your eye there, Max?" The sheep dog asked him. Max blushed, his paw pads heating up. His ears involuntarily pulled back against his head. A nervous laugh escaped the dog's throat. "Haha, what are you talking about?" Max replied, trying to appear cool and natural and not at all like he was infatuated. Max sighed, dropping his head in defeat. "It's that obvious, huh?" Max shook his head, ridding him of all thoughts of the Saluki. Max looked back at Quidam, wagging his tail slightly and asked him a question, "So, you finally got out of your cage, eh?" He heard Dale unleash a series of barks and snarls from across the yard. Max flinched, glancing over in Dale's direction. He was telling off some young, foolish pups. Max shook his head, clicking his tongue. Those poor pups never know what they're getting into until it's too late.

Arya | Female | 2 months | Border Collie | Pup |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~ Dale, Dakota {Open}

Arya ignored Dakota for the most part, keeping all eyes on Dale's every move. Out of the corner of her vision she could see some dogs staring at her. They were talking about her, she knew that, but she didn't really care. She heard small, slurred words speak from beside her asking the Dane if he was broken. Arya froze, her eyes widening. She knew that was a mistake. Arya didn't want to be associated with Dakota, taking three big steps away from the daft pup and her alpha. A chilling bark and some snarls erupted from the Great Dane moments later. The young Border Collie pup admired Dale's pristine white fangs for a moment, but only for a moment. Arya quickly dropped to the ground, rolling onto her back and exposing her pink and white stomach to the brute. She hoped this was enough of a submissive gesture for the alpha not to murder her alongside Dakota.

Dakota didn't flinch, Being that all he could see was the large jowls Open and close, the vibration in his chest told him that what ever Dale was doing, it was loud. However when the large dog loomed over him, the small white pup stared into the dogs eyes, Head cocked trying to translate what he had said, Bared teeth weren't that easy to read being that the mouth barley moved when it was like that. "sorry...?" he asked, not sure if it was the appropriate sentence. 'did i do something wrong?'he asked himself. Looking over to his side were a fellow pup had once been, well...she was still there just in laying most ridiculous way that Dakota had ever seen a dog lay. He swallowed a giggle and turned back to the Large brute in front of him, And licked his nose in an apologetic way with his pink tongue, Completely unaware of the whispers and the eyes glued to him

Petra // Zeta // Beauceron // 4 Years, 6 Months
Location: The Stone Pasture
Mentions: Cyrus, Dale [Indirectly]

Petra gave a small huff of approval when Cyrus showed a submissive posture, and she turned around, flicking her tail to tell him to follow her. She led him over to an area of the stone pasture where there were less dogs. She didn't think anyone was within earshot, but she'd speak extra quietly to make sure. "Would you be interested in joining a rebellion?" She whispered to him, getting straight to the point. "I'm trying to start one, but I can't do that without an Eta on my side." She already knew that Cyrus was against the government, so even if he wasn't interested in joining, he probably wouldn't tell Dale about her plans. She saw Dale snapping at pup out of the corner of her eye, and she snarled softly, resisting the urge to save the poor pup.

B-75 (Beatrice) | Female | 4 Years Old | Great Dane x Doberman Pinscher | Epsilon
Location: The Stone Pasture
Mentions: Dale, Arya, Dakota

Beatrice left the confines of her stone cage with a tired expression. Her bones creaked and muscles ached as she moved, but the large mixed breed showed no outward sign of agony as she sought out her leader. The previous day had been long and filled with violent training. A raw scar still marred her broad muzzle, but this life was the only one she'd ever known and Beatrice had grown used to feeling the way she did now. Pain was a hindrance and a distraction for many, but she would never allow it to control her. Her paws led her further into the pasture until she spotted Dale's harlequin pelt. Two pups danced around him jubilantly and amusement gleamed in her chocolate colored eyes until the male pup said something to upset the mighty Dane. Beatrice paused as Dale stood over the white-furred pup, snarling in outrage and the second pup soon after quickly rolled onto her back in submission to show her belly. "Dale," She called softly, hoping to divert his attention to her instead.

P-60 (Phoenix) | Male | 2 Years Old | Silken Windhound x Longhaired Whippet | Eta
Location: The Stone Cages
Mentions: None [OPEN]

Phoenix's jaws parted in a loud yawn, front legs sliding out in front of him as his back curved slightly in an odd sort of stretch. The sound of savage barking coming from the pasture had the Windhound rolling his eyes as he was already quite certain who was making such a ruckus this early in the day. 'Wonder who loud mouth is chewing out now?' Phoenix thought idly, padding over to one of the water bowls and lapping up a few mouthfuls before passing his tongue over his muzzle thoughtfully. 'At least it's not me this time.' If he had known it was Dakota now at the mercy of Dale's temper he likely would have taken the situation more seriously, but with what knowledge he had now the Dane's snarling was little more than an irritant.

Ice | Female | 4 years 7 months | Siberian Husky | Zeta |
Location~ The Stone Pasture
Mentions~ Dale, Arya, Dakota

-
Ice watched the Border Collie pup named Arya drop to the ground and roll over to expose her stomach. The fae flicked her ear in approval. Giving her paw one more lick, she wondered if she should save her from the Alpha's wrath. If she didn't, then the poor pup might get killed, or at the very least, get some more mechanical parts. If she did, then the pup would grow up to be a great Eta or more. She decided which one was better and stalked over to the three dogs to go save her.

Arriving at the scene, she stood behind Dakota, so he couldn't see her. Alpha Dale was facing her, and Arya was currently looking up at her. Sighing, she picked the pup up by the scruff, making sure to give a respectful dip of her head to her mate before walking away.

His quarrel was with the pup Dakota, not Arya. He would be a fool to hurt Arya severely. She was loyal, something many of the dogs around her weren't, or at least, she thinks they weren't. Anyways, if he hurt Arya, he would have to speak to her mother, something she was sure he didn't have the time for. She was doing him a favor.

Dropping the pup, she carefully looked her over. Nothing seemed to be broken, and she didn't seem to be hurt. Her thoughts strayed back to Dakota. It seemed like he didn't hear the outburst of the alpha. Something was wrong with that him, she was sure. Shaking her head, she looked at Arya. "I want you to stay away from Alpha Dale for now. As you can tell, he isn't in the best mood." She glanced at her outraged mate. Turning back to Arya, she nodded, and walked five feet away before sitting down. She didn't care if the young Border Collie followed her or not. Again, she began grooming her filthy paws.

Quidam [P-71] | . | Male | . | Polish Tatra Sheepdog Mix | . | Eta
Location | . | The Stone Pasture
Mentions | . | Max (Directly), Dale (Indirectly), Arya (Indirectly), and Dakota (Indirectly)

~

Quidam sensed the younger male's nervousness and let out a chuckle. He definitely knew something was up, but wasn't exactly the prying type, so he dropped the topic. Max's reaction to his question was enough to answer his question. He found it a little entertaining watching other dogs act once one caught their eye. It was mildly amusing, he seemed to think. As soon as he rested his large head on top of his heavy paws he heard Max's voice. "So you finally got out of your cage, eh?" Quidam raised his head a bit to look up at Max.

"Yes. But every day, I'm on the chopping block, slated to die, I guess. Maybe it's gotten better, but there's this look I get. I don't know to describe what it feels like... you'd just have to see it..." Quidam's voice got quieter as he watched the scene before his eyes play out. The white furred pup by the name of Dakota had pushed Dale's buttons a little too far. The collie pup, Arya knew to roll over in submission, which earned her safety by Ice. But the little male pup. Quidam himself had remembered being in that pup's paws; being bullied by older pups and beat up on because of his refusal to fight back.

From the bottom of Quidam's throat came a low growl, which he which silenced. He could throw himself into the fray and be torn up in the process, but he'd end up with the satisfaction of doing the right thing. Or he could lay around and watch as the Alpha delivered some so called "justice" on a tiny pup that was barely a threat to him or his ranking. Quidam scooted up so that he was sitting back on his haunches. "I don't like this one bit," he said quietly to Max as he let out a quiet whimper.

Frankie | male | 3 years | Doberman Pinscher | Zeta |
Location - Pasture
Mentions - Dakota and Dale

The commotion in the yard had woken Frankie up. He listened closely, loathe to leave the slight warmth his cage provided. It was only when he realised the bark was from Dale that he stuck his head out. Slap bang in the middle of the pasture was Dale and Dakota like a scene from a play. Frankie was about to settle in and watch the outcome when he realised Dakota was the deaf pup. His ears perked up. Dakota was the deaf one, he'd probably get killed!
Shoving off from the cold floor, Frankie made a quick bolt across the pasture. He desperately was trying to ignore the freezing cold that set through him. He reached the much larger, much more dangerous, and honestly entirely frightening dog and his prey. He pushed Dakota behind him, head and ears lowered nervously.
"Hey Alpha, haha, fine morning isn't it?"
Quick as a flash, Frankie turned, grabbed Dakota by the scruff, and speed-walked back to his cage. In the relative safety and warmth he dropped Dakota and turned to lecture him, making sure the deaf dog could see his face.
"That was real stupid, scamp."
