Thought to be extinct for over twenty years after the Angolan Civil War, this animal is critically endangered. The first evidence that it was still alive was due to the camera traps in the area. It is threatened by both poachers and hybridization with other antelope.

Poachers will find the cameras and destroy them, prompting the scientists to put the cameras up higher in trees out of sight.
