Beetle Guide

News Post// Species Post // Beetle Suggestion Thread

Finding beetles

So where do you find your beetles?

You can find them in explore! They are found by exploring with your king. They can be found in any biome.

When do you come across one, It’ll look like this

zAuN56C.png
The first option, Grab: Simply click Grab it for a chance to get it. You have a 50% chance to get one. After you grab it, you will see one of two interactions:

“You grabbed the little squishy blob successfully. It looks like you got a __ Larva. [View]”

“You grabbed at the little squishy blob, but it bit your paw and managed to get away! Damn it!”

Afterwards, you will be able to find them in your den underneath your lion list and above the sparring area if you have an eligible male that you are able to spar with.

For the next option Eat the following two text will appear:

You pounce at the wiggily larva but it slips between your paws and gets away!

You grab the larva between your teeth and slurp it down. Ahhh... Slimy, yet satisfying! (This outcome also gives you a chance for a stat for your lion)

Your Beetle

When you first get your beetle, they are in the larva stage.

VVEDG8r.png

Your larva will be a larva for 10 days, at which time it will become a full fledged beetle. Each day Larva drop their hunger by 30%. When you reach 100% your larva will die.

QwXi8gQ.png

This is what your Larva/Beetle's page will look like. The top beetles in the left and right hand corners are buttons you can press to scroll through the owner's beetle list. It will be green if you can go to the next one in the sequence, or black if there are none before/after that.

This page lists the Species, Owner, Sex, Color, Age, Hunger Bar (which will turn into a training bar when they reach adult hood), STR (strength), END (endurance), SPD (speed), Wins/Losses, and Heritage. It also lists the species rarity and color rarity :)

Jkf6Apy.png

You can also find the biography of the beetle, a place to change it's name, a place to release your beetle back into the wild which is just like chasing a lioness. It's permanent and you will not be able to get it back. If it's still in the larva stage, there will be a section to feed it, with a drop down menu of available items in your hoard that can be fed to it.

PwYlhVf.png

You can also secure your beetle! Just go to that beetle's page and click on the secure button.

m5Cg9cG.png

Release into the wild: This releases your beetle into the wild. This is permanent and you will not be able to get that beetle back.

Eat Beetle: You can eat beetles for -3 karma (removes them permanently from the game)

Give to kittengarten: Give the beetles away for cubs for +3 Karma. (removes them permanently from the game)

Note!! These actions do not produce dead beetle items

LpRfn1U.png

Starting at day 11, your larva ages into an Adult. The adults do not have to be fed, instead you will see the hunger bar turn into a training bar. Both male and female beetles can be trained, but only males can battle. The females can't battle, but they can be bred.

beetlecoprisdracunculusopalescent.png

Death Item

Your beetle will die on the rollover after they turn 30, which means they will die when they turn 31. They then become unusable, collectible items in your hoard. Depending on species and color, the item will match the beetle that died (except for gender). When they start becoming more abundant, craftable decors will be added for each. They can also be traded.

**NOTE** If it dies as a larvae, you will NOT receive the Death Item. Only adult beetles will grant you that item.

There are also den icons that will show if your Beetle is

IEqdYBf.pnghungry (in case of a larva. This will appear when they are 60% hungry)

qdOwsqi.pngPregnant

Qh5QFFc.pngif they have eggs.

hourglass.png if on a breeding cooldown.

levelup.pngIf they need to level up

trading.pngIf they are up for trade

What if I want to age up my beetle?

agingpebble.png

Aging Pebble, located in Monkey Business for 200sb, will allow you to age your larvae to 10 days instantly, so that way at the next rollover, your beetle will age up into an adult.

What about changing the gender of my beetle?

beetlesexchanger.png

Beetle Sex Changer, located in Monkey Business for 200sb, will allow you to sex change your non-battled, non-bred beetle into opposite gender. (It's a Fire Lily petal in case anyone asks :D)

Food

You can feed your beetles a various selection of Herbs and Water items.

mhpqpDn.png

Wondering where to get food for your beetles?

The Beetle Grounds is the place you need to go! You go to explore and click on the Beetle grounds at the top of the map as shown in the picture. From there, it will lead you to an NPC area.

eK9OG4X.png

Here you will see two areas, a place where you can buy a random food item for your beetle and the training area.

You might notice that the random food items that you get are some of the ones you have seen before during events in August and November. You can buy a random one from the NPC for 20sb, or if you have any still left in your hoard from the past events, you can use those to feed your larva! Food items will fill the hunger to full no matter how hungry your insect is. All food items also have tiny chances of boosting a stat of your beetle!

waterroot.pngWater Root ibogaroot.pngIboga Root marulafruit.pngMarula Fruit umganu.pngUmganu

nutgrass.pngNut Grass aloeleaf.pngAloe Leaf opuntia.pngStripped Cacti ubhubhubhu.pngUbhubhubhu

uqume.pngUqume uvuma-omhlope.pngUvuma-Omhlope buchu.pngBuchu africancucumber.pngAfrican Cucumber

dreamroot.pngDream Root uzara.pngUzara imphepho.pngImphepho honeybush.pngHoney Bush

If you prefer to just feed to keep them alive rather than raise stats, a larva has to be fed three times minimum to survive, which is 60SB or free if during the drought/shamanic events.

Explore Food Encounter

There is now an explore encounter to get a random free herb! There is no image related to this, just text, which will state:

You come across an area full of low-growing plants. Ah! You recognise the ____________ in the middle and you CAREFULLY pluck it from the soil.

Breeding

Once your larva age up into beetles, you are able to breed them. Your male and female must be of the same species to breed. The female can breed as soon as she ages up into an adult.

HWmNpmM.png

Once bred, the female will be pregnant for one day (until next rollover) and her image will show with the hearts like the picture above.

qdOwsqi.pngThey will also gain the Pregnant den icon.

beetle_clutch.jpg

When you rollover, a clutch will appear on your beetle's image, as well as the Icon appearing in your den. Qh5QFFc.png This clutch will last for one day, with a text appearing that says:

“This female has a clutch of eggs. You should harvest some before they hatch and scuttle away.”

A harvest button should appear on the page. Harvesting gives you between 1-4 larva that hatch immediately with the rest running away. If you don’t harvest on that day, all larvae will hatch and scatter away on the next rollover. When claimed, the larvae will start at age 0. Females then have a cooldown period of 10 days after giving birth, of which the cooldown icon will appear hourglass.png

The Babies should always get the species base stats, and both parent stat bonus. Also a random chance for the larvae to have + or - 3 stats.

The parents' colour does matter when breeding. However, color has a chance to produce a mutation of any common variation, a smaller chance for uncommon and a smallest chance of a rare color within the species.

Training

NFupdEv.png

In the Beetle Ground area, where you buy the food from, the training area is also located. Using this, you pay 10sb per training. Each beetle is allowed to train in the training grounds once a day. Using this gives you a chance of boosting a stat by +1.

beetlestr.pngMove Rock - strength

beetleend.pngClimb Branch - endurance

beetlespd.pngGround Race - speed

FtdtcAv.png

You will also noticing that training will take over the hunger bar (as they no longer have to be fed) on your beetle's profile, of which it will stat either yes or no if they had been trained for that day.

Battling

Are you ready to battle?

battlebanner.jpg

By now your beetle should be close to aging up to where they can finally battle, so it’s best to read up and know where you need to go and what you need to do.

Where are the battle grounds?

pvqeZET.png

On the explore page, click the two beetles that are fighting as shown in the image to go to the Beetle Battle page.

How do you find an opponent?

660r97k.png

Once there, there will be a drop down list for you to select the beetle you want to battle. Select your beetle, then press the button that says Find Opponent and Battle! The game then finds a beetle within your tier based on your stats, and the battle is determined. Your opponent is selected from a player that has been online in the last 7 days. If no opponent is found, the game generates an NPC.

9V6cIqU.png

After a battle, 1 beetle has a 15 minute cooldown. That is per beetle and not per person, so if you have more beetles you can easily battle them while you wait for the other one to be off of cooldown; however, they each have their own individual cool down. This also means that if they are challenged by another beetle, they will be under that cooldown as well.

What do you get when you win?

Every win your beetle will gain a 10 beetle exp reward, as well as your lion having a chance for:

Rare: Extra beetle slots (total 10 on top of what player already owns)

Uncommon: Main male gets EXP that is equal to beetle total stats!

Uncommon: SB

Common: A random herb

What about losing?

Every loss will grant a 5 beetle exp reward as well as an uncommon chance for a random herb.

Losers will receive a notification with the information about the battle and the loosing beetle receives a 15 minute cooldown as well.

****NOTE: Only the person who triggered a battle gets the extra reward if they win - beetles who were challenged and win don’t get extra rewards, they just get EXP for defending****

What if I don’t want my beetle to battle?

E3telfH.png

Simple! Go to the beetle's page and there will be a box to check to disable from battling :) It's located underneath where you name your beetle :)

Where can I go to see my beetle's battle record?

LpX0m0w.png

Go to that certain beetle's page and on the page, in the section that list it's wins/losses, will be a clickable text that says view recent.

dIUGr6D.png

After you have clicked on it, it'll take you to a page where you can see the 100 most recent battle results of that beetle. Please do note that battle results expire after 5 days, but this does mean you won't get a notification any more when your beetle has been in a fight :)

EXP/STATS

Stat Tiers

Stat tiers are based on your beetle's stats:

It is counted from -10 to +10 of your beetle's stats. If your beetle is stronger, it should have a greater chance to win, but there's always a small chance it could lose.

How does exp work?

Now this is the more complex part. EXP needed to level up and gain a stat, is evaluated based on total stats of your beetle, on the moment of levelling up. That means, first level up ever will always be 100 EXP, but further ones will be calculated every time your beetle levels up, because meanwhile it can gain stats from training! Here is a nice little chart:

beetlechart.jpg

Basically, when levelling up, your beetle receives 1 stat, always.

Total exp needed calculated is total stats x 10. So if your beetle has total stats 73, EXP needed to level up is 730. When your beetle levels up, the exp is at 0 again. That's a lot of battles!

I need to level up my beetle, what do I do?!

NPfvyZ8.png

On your beetle page, there will be a button to level up that says boost stats! Click that to level up the exp of your beetle!

Oasis Beetles

Z4NKr9a.png

You might have noticed two new beetles in the oasis! The common beetles are 1 GB and can be bought as tokens, of which you can trade them, bury them etc. Upon use, if you have a free beetle slot, it will generate a larva of a random color rarity and gender.

Where does the token go?

SuDnCf5.png

In your hoard! Just simply click on the item and then click use! After you click use, the beetle will appear in the same spot as all your other beetles!

Beetle Mounds

Where have my beetles gone?

5cP8mM3.png

They are now located on your den, underneath your lion caves, in beetle mounds. If you have any unsorted, they will show up in the unsorted section as show in the blue box.

How do I create a mound?

Click where it says + Create Mound, as show in the red box in the above picture.

6TkDgT9.png

After you click on it, it'll take you to the page where you can create beetle mounds. You will automatically unlock Mound Slots when you gain Beetle slots - you will get 1 mound slot for every 3 beetle slots you own. There is no need to unlock slots yourself.Your first one is free :)

dzgbg1o.png

After that it will cost 50SB and 5x Underbrush. Underbrush can be found in any explore zone.

What about putting them into mounds?

Go back to your den page and click on the box that says __unsorted beetles, like shown in the blue box in the picture above.

prL7lwl.png
From there it'll take you to your unsorted beetles page. Just simply click the boxes (shown in blue) of the beetles you want to move to a certain mound, select that mound from the drop down list and hit the move checked button (shown in red). And there you go! Your beetles are now moved into a mound.

Other

ba1JhCT.png

Your beetle slots counter has been moved to your Lion's information panel on your Den page - underneath your Territory slots.

SfH2CfI.png

Purchasing new Battle Beetle slots has been moved to the Oasis as it is a GB purchase.

Can I transfer my beetle to another player?

The Answer is yes! Just simply go to your transfer page, either by clicking on a person's profile and clicking on send this person a gift, or go to the trading center and clicking on transfers, and select the beetle that you wish to transfer from there.

transferingbeetles.png

What about trading?

Yes you can now trade your beetle! You trade them like you would any normal lion/item, they just have their own table!

eYmS4tb.png

You can also search for them, using the search function in the trading center!

ioTqWGz.png

If a beetle is in a trade, they will display this on their profile:

n3Aw0lB.png

There is also a nifty little icon that will show up beside their names on the mound page that indicates that they are up for trading, just like lions!

Beetle Skins

beetleskins.jpg

Beetle Skins are a lot like Custom Decor that you put on your lions. This works as an image replacement 1 per beetle stage, from larva to adult.

beetleskin.png

In the Oasis there is an item called the Beetle Skin Maker. It costs 5 GB and it gives you 5 copies of your skin after it's approved.

Each skin has only 1 use. This means it will not go back to your hoard when you remove it. It dies with your beetle.

As this item is a vanity item, you can put the skin on beetle you own, no matter the species. The beetle will display the skin's name.

What's the cost for a copy?

After your 5 copies are used, you can buy copies of the skins. The skins start out at a base price of 100sb, kind of similar to how a custom decor has a base price of 3GB. Anything above the 100SB is the owner's personal choice.

So how do I go about doing it?

This is going to show you how to add custom skins, just like custom decors!

iDBAkjy.png

After you buy the Beetle Skin Maker you go to use it in your hoard. After clicking on it, it'll putll it up and you'll see a bunch of options. You'll want to select Create Beetle Skin.

Next make sure you read the rules, which are as follows:

Create a Custom Beetle Skin!

You can create a custom beetle skin here! Creating a beetle skin will use up the item and the decor will go into an approval queue, where it will remain pending until it is approved or rejected. If approved, you will receive 5 copies of your skin. If rejected, you will receive a replacement beetle skin creation item.

All beetle skins must have an item image, larva image, male image and female image. The direction of all skins should be facing left. The size for beetle skins are 300x300, with item images being 100x100 respectively.

Rules

Rules have been added to the Custom Decor & Beetle Skin Item Rules at the bottom. Basically same rules as Custom Decor applies, with the exception of more freedom for art style.

- No photographs or photomanipulations are to be used, including photos that you took yourself, or free-use photos.

- No 3D images

- No copyright or trademarked characters (ex. Spiderman, Pikachu, Digimon, Scooby Doo, etc)

- We do not expect all submissions to be sterling art quality but we request that users refrain from submitting MS-Paint or pixeled images, or from submitting art that generally does not fit the quality expected on Lioden. We ask that users try to match Lioden's art style by adding shading and fine lineart.

- For skins we're allowing more freedom in terms of art style, but to a degree of common sense.

- Do not use art that does not belong to you or wasn't drawn by you.

- If the art was made by somebody who gave you permission to use it, write in the item's description giving them credit. Example: Lovely Laughing Hyena! (Art by: #145023219)

- Skin art must be drawn either by yourself or by someone on Lioden. Any art made by somebody outside of Lioden will be rejected.

- Tracing over photos that you didn't take doesn't make it your art and isn't okay.

- No pornographic, sexual, or gory images.

- Memes are not permitted, but we will accept humorous images.

- All submissions must abide by the Terms and Conditions of the site.

The rules may be added or changed at any time.

Now let's get to uploading!

iBec9lx.png

Let's start from the top!

Base Details

Name: This is where you will put the name of your base

Item Image URL:This is where you put the item image URL, kind of like what you want to represent the whole item. Make sure it has an extension in it, for example .png

Description This is where you will put the description for your beetle skin. Please remember if someone else drew it to put their name and ID #!

Image URLS

Larva Image URL: This is where you put the larva image url for the beetle.

Female Image URL: This is where you put the adult beetle image url for the beetle.

Male Image URL: This is where you put the adult beetle image url for the beetle.

Afterwards just hit create! It will then go up for review and after it's reviewed and accepted, it will be added into the game.

Is it better to let a beetle die for the item or add it to your collection? What are the benefits of each?
