Nothing But The Blue Sky

The sky was dark and gloomy, without a hint of the sun. The entirety of it was covered in dark storm clouds that looked just about ready to dump their fair share of rain down on the small island. It was covered in lush trees whose branches were wildly swinging back and forth in the harsh wind. Some of the trees clashed with the water that was violently pounding against the beach as if it was trying to break free from some sort of cage. Overall, it gave a very creepy vibe, this island did.

Off in the distance, there rose a ship. It seemed to emerge from underneath the water, but that was simply because the waves were bigger the farther one went in the water. The ship appeared to be something straight of out a pirates movie; it had multiple masts and sails, a long bowsprit poking out into the water, and was made out of a deep, rich, black wood. There were carvings made into it, and they appeared to be of mermaids and sirens.

It was obvious that the ship was going to land at the tiny island(this island was actually very big in comparison to the ship, but small compared to other islands), but where they would go afterwards was the question. Yet, they seemed dead set on getting to their destination, going twice as fast as they were before once they spotted it through the crazy waves and harsh winds.

In a cabin on the ship, a woman who appeared to be wearing a lab coat was talking urgently to the man who seemed to be the captain. "-----ight have t--------- -----the plans fo-------hetic di------- -----ing." Her voice was cutting out, but the man in front of her seemed to understand what she was saying, and urged her on. "The tsu----- ----------ral after this, a----- -----urvive -----orm they wo----- ----ell. --e will mo---- ----lan g." He nodded at her words and picked up a walkie-talkie, barking words into it in a different language.

At last, the ship reached the island. Several men jumped out to help it get onto land, but even then they were at risk of being blown or washed away. All that were on board rushed to open the door that lead underneath the main deck and picked up cages that were scattered around, all holding a single cat. They were all unconscious and would be for another hour, so they had to be set in a place where they wouldn't die immediately.

They threw them down to the crew on the ground, who ran into the tree line and began to just open the cages, throwing them deeper into the forest when the cat had been dumped on the ground. The ground at the very edge of the forest was still sand, but they knew if they were to go deeper they'd reach solid soil. They repeated this action until all the cats were out, and by that time, they had 45 minutes left. Rushing to get back onto the boat, they were out and into the ocean within a few minutes, and would be out of sight by the time the felines woke up. The storm was starting to dump out its rain, leaving the deck slippery and dangerous. Yet, the woman from earlier still stood out there, gazing back at the island, doubt creeping into her gaze.

"Did we really do what was right? ...It will help us in the future... but at what cost?"
