@MoeMoe What program are you using? :o I'll show you via Sai since that's what I use. For brushes, a lot of people put free brushes up on dA. So for instance I could type in photoshop free brush in the deviantart search box and a bunch will pop up, and usually they have instructions in the description. Here's an example of clipping layer: http://i.imgur.com/22PJmkO.png Basically what clipping layer does is that it creates another layer that can ONLY be on the bottom layer. So it won't ever go outside the color (so what you'd use if you're trying to shade so it doesn't go outside). http://i.imgur.com/QKhyyvK.png this is what it looks like without clipping. There should be something like that in your program :o ![]() |

Thanks guys...I'm assuming I just download it into the correct folder once I find a brush I like? @ Kuroda: I'm using the ArtRage program and I have to admit I've never heard or seen a clipping layer in the program...but than again, I haven't looked for one. It sounds like a really useful tool! I'll look around in the program and see if I can find what your describing. @Ookami: I don't have any plans for it, though I love how it turned out...I originally created it for an art contest but it was not a winner so now I just kinda have it! I also have another version of it on my deviantart where the wings look more like just flames..., if you click on the image you should be able to find the drawing I'm talking about :3. My idea was that the dragon could make it's flame like wings larger and smaller at will. @Madness: Cool! I wish I could draw feline anatomy like that...my creations always seem to have un-proportionate bodies. Are you planning on creating male lines as well? ![]() |

@MoeMoe, I don't believe ArtRage has a clipping layer tool, as it's sort of more towards a "real" digital painting tool, sort of like how Sketchbook is a sketching tool. Personally I prefer the two despite not having all the extra tools like layer masks and such, since they have a feel more like traditional art than other programs. As for downloading brushes, I believe with ArtRage you pretty much just download the file, then go to File > Install Package File, find the file, and install it. But it also depends if its a Package file or not too. Most of the time, the creator will likely have instructions on how to install them, so just read descriptions and such. It's been awhile since I used ArtRage after I got Sketchbook Pro, so I'm a bit rusty with the program now XD ![]() |

ID Number: #115122 Are you a -- More of a learner I suppose, though I'm more than happy to help when I can. Traditional or Digital Artist?: Both. I've taken classes for traditional art for 10 years and am self taught in digital for almost as long. What things are you good at? (Leave blank if none): Animals and humans mostly. I'm pretty good at beaches. What things do you want to improve? (Leave blank if none): Everything? There's always room to improve. What program/drawing tablet do you use? (Leave blank if traditional): I draw with a really old Wacom Intuos I've had for, like, a decade. Still works great. I primarily use Krita (open source program), sometimes using Photoshop Elements for a few things. What type of markers do you use, eg. Copics, Watercolour, pastel, crayon (Leave blank if digital): acrylic paint, pens, colored pencils, graphite pencils, charcoal ![]() |

@Darklilly, Oh! Okay, thank you very much that makes sense as I have noticed that ArtRage does not seem to have as many actual tools :3. The program came with the tablet I use, so I didn't really have a choice about what I was using...but perhaps learning how to draw with a program like ArtRage will be beneficial in the long run. I do think I will search for a few new brushes though, thanks for the tip! @Ookami That would be great! PM? ![]() |

You can try Krita. It's open source so it doesn't cost anything to download. ![]() |
