I'm currently working on some rather neglected wolf OCs of mine and redesigning them.
Link, if anyone wants a peek, but fair warning, it's huge! (Rather obviously, I'm using the same basic, rough sketch for all of them, because I'm lazy like that...)
It's going to be a comparison chart of one particular family of wolves, plus I threw Jack(the fox looking wolf-thing) for size comparison purposes(he is like a 3rd or 4th cousin of the family, so I guess he counts as part of them too XD). Did most of them last night, then tried to finish them up this morning, but now my hand is acting up I think I'm going to have to give my hand a break before attempting the rest, or any art for that matter.

I hate it when your hand gets achy from drawing. It's only happened to me once, but it was awful!

Doing a commission from my art shop at this moment, the one I'm doing at this moment is gonna take a while, an awful lot of patterns, so I'd better be prepared, even though I should expect more of that in the future ^^

For Neptune, I love sabretooth tigers cats, so that's why he has long fangs. The horns are a inspiration from the anime Blue Exorcist, where the character Kuro has two, short horns among his head. The tabby patterns are inspired from a drawing on DA, and the white splotches on his underbelly are probably from one of the vitilgo markings? Otherwise, that's how I made Neptune

I personally go for semi-realistic designs, or either natural markings with slightly natural colors, or natural colors with semi-natural markings, but I've done some funky ones too. Honestly, I can't say I really get inspiration so much as I throw a nice color palette together, mess around, and see what happens XD

Oh, and as far as my hand, it's entirely possible it's not from drawing. It just goes numb sometimes, like when your foot falls asleep, and won't "wake up" for awhile, sometimes even the whole day. I'm also fairly certain this is a result of a very poor choice I made to hit something I shouldn't have. My life lesson I learned from that; don't punch light switches... seriously, don't do it.

i try to think about personality or what i want the character to represent. for more fantasy designs, i like to write down a few different traits/ideas then tie them together in a few different trials

I personally find it useful to just, stare at dawn sky for a while..
You just look at the horizon and see the blue transfer to a orange, like those colors are pretty *°*

Otherwise, it's autumn in the west so many nice shades of red
