 Current Month: JulyCurrent Weather: Blistering hot sun without a cloud in sight Enter Canada: Not a drop of rain has been seen since early May, and every animal is feeling it. The sun has become uncharacteristically hot, killing and drying out the Mustangs' main food source: vegetation. The horses have fled to a small, twenty mile area of pine forest, deep in the mountains, seeking shade and relief from the hot sun, which is burning light colored horses. Deer and moose are heading to wetter lands, depriving the wolves of their main food source: fresh meat. Because of this the swollen wolf populous have turned to the horses for food; killing young foals and old horses alike. Safety in numbers has been taken to the extreme, some herds harboring well over a dozen horses. More wolves have passed through these lands, following their prey source. When they happened upon the hundreds of Mustangs hiding in the mountains they stayed, adding to the already overgrown Canis Lupus population. Mares keep even older foals close, and yearlings with a good head on their shoulders dare not stray from the protection of their lead stallion. Because of the dry, sparse grass, lactating mares are condemned to a dwindling milk supply, unfortunately and quite unwillingly starving foals unequipped to graze on what little grass there is. The new wolves brought with them an awful disease, dubbed the "Staggering Sickness". The horses have no known treatment, but healers are working tirelessly to find a cure. It can take anywhere from four to ten days for the symptoms to appear, and contact with the victim's droppings, urine, saliva, nasal discharge, or even breathing the same air will almost guarantee the sickness continues to spread. The main symptoms are thick nasal discharge, staggering gait, hind leg weakness, fever, and lethargy. Some infected horses even die. Wolves seem unable to catch this horrid disease, but it passes from horse to horse like wildfire, and whole herds are dropping like flies, especially with more horses in a smaller area and larger herds. The disease also causes malformed or aborted foals in pregnant mares, and foals, along with the elderly, are more susceptible to it. Character SheetsNo thread generated. Estrelita|Karina and Oscuro The filly lay beneath her mother, her coat dark and slick with sweat. The sun burned her eyes when they were open and even reached them when they were closed. Estrelita could barely take it. But she knew her dam was doing all she could and never complained, her throat was too dry to do so anyway. Noctis|Sereno The black stallion left his meager shade beneath the dying pines to stand beside Sereno. "Sereno," He began, his voice rasping. "You need to eat and drink, if you starve yourself you'd be worth little to this h-" He coughed, the words catching in his dry throat. "Herd." Nox|Meadow She looked at the moss growing in what little shade there was. "Who knows how long this will last, then where will we be?" Ember was now an adolescent and venters off by herself at times. She had a mission to save her herd, she followed her nose until she came to a shaded area. She sniffed the ground until she was half way into the ground. "Yes." She said as murky water began to fill the hole she drank greedily before running back to the herd. Brooke - No one Brooke's paws thrummed against the dry earth, panting. Muscles rippled under her thick coat, which aso kept the coolon her body and hot out, but she still is thirsty and hot. She was now in an area with more vegatation,but it would be a suicidal journy for the weak horses to come to this place. She felt her heart crack when she thought of the loss of Advika. Brooke believed that there is a sickness around. A sickness that is horrible. She sniffed th air, the smell of prey making her mouth water. It made her mouth less dry, which she was graceful for. The scar, like Meadow said, never healed, ad it left a large scar on her shoulder. She pushed on until she saw brown spots in the distance, and the hope of getting foodmade her sprint faster. Kicking up grass, the deer shrieked, running off. But they werr too late. Brooe leaped onto the nearest deer, her claws sinking into its rump as she dragged it to the ground. It kicked and thrashed, but to no avail. Bones ad skulls lay on the ground from wolves that decided to tae a meal. There was a river near by, so she dragged her kill with her, dipping her head tolap the water up. The sun was notas hot, but she needs to get wet so shescool while runing. She leaped into the river, making a loud splash as she waded through the cool water. She stared at the skulls of the deer. They were like bowl things! She just needs to block the eyes and nostril! She pawed at the pebbles inpatiently, because every milisecond counts. She grabbed a pebble in her mouth that could fit in the eye. She fitit in, before she tried the other eye. It didn't fit, but the second one did. Then she blocked the ose with grass, and finally stuffing it with small pebbles. She filled it with water, walking alog side the river she spot any rocks with moss. She searched for minutes, until she saw some. She clawed at the thick moss, her claws making an annoyed sound. She clawed it free, placing it in the water bowl. Maybe she should give this bowl to Ember! She smiled as she thought of the red pup. She might be a adolescent now, like Brooke is. She went back to her kill, feeding on its, licking blood off her lips. She placed the deer carcass neatly on her back, holding the cup in her jaws, careful not to spill, as she padded back. Meadow - Nox, Sereno "I will be with you shortly. Stay somewhere very shadey. Oh, and here. It makes you stronger." Meadow said, giving her small blue berries. They were juniper berries, and were used for strength, and also gave her lambs ear It also gave strength, but it was a plant, not a actual ear. She stored many and many leaves and herbs, to the point where it was a large pile, but she put them in her burrow so they won't get burnt. She gave the herbs to Nox because of how her back legs seem to get weak. "You are supposed to eat them." Meadow said in case she didn't know how to apply them. It might help her get full, also. Meadow needed to go to Abiette Herd. There was something serious she needed to discuss with Sereno. She already spoke with Boulder. It was how she suspects an illness. Some horses are getting weak legs, and thick nasal discharge. She sees dry discharge on dead horse bodies. This is serious. It wasn't just the sun. She sprinted off, panting. She ran into Abiette Herd's territory, looking for Sereno. She spotted Antoinette, laying on her side. She didn;t have ime now. She had a plan. She decided to eep the sik horses where they are and move the healthy horse away. (wow, i was gone fo awhile but i did have thigs to do. I sadly couldn't say if i was going to be gone or awhile cz i nevr know but i'll try in th future to say on that ;.;) Shunder/Beth/Calico Infected: no Mentions: Advika, Tadi, Mangolia The three had been working hard to keep things in order for all in Spade's group. Shunder's been trying to find a cure for the Stagger decease. She hoped no one would prish but sadly that's not how things work. She'd been testing treatmnt ideas on herself and those who voleenter. She is still looking out for Tadi and trying to teach him things as she feels a tad bit fond of him. She lets him tag along with her, helping if he wishes and if he requests to elrn something se knows she'd often stop to teach him and let him practice. Beth's been her assistant in checkin on the herd and keeping wolves away, she'd evn check on Advika if Shunder doesn't to make sur she's okay. Calico has been looking ot for mangolia and bringing her food and water, he too picked up insects like crikets to give to her for food. He's good at finding and catching them as well, good training, as for water, well, he's been looking and found various ways so far but he's not sure how lucky he'd be for much longer. Macbeth/Malcome Infected: no Mentions: Sereno, Noctis The two have nt ben useless and have worked hard themselves to help provide the herd with food and water. Foals are easy to persuade to eat insects like Shudnr once taught them long ago but some mares are too stubborn. Macbeth and Malcome allow herd membes to vent if they get snappish by sparring with them if needed or just allowing themselves to be hit so they won't burn anyone out. Malcome's clumsiness found them some water ony recently but Macbth is still trying to come up with a way to keep it around to last long enough to find more....So Macbeth is going to find Sereno, his mate and Noctis to see what they think. Ginga/Male/Dog Mentions: Alycone, Fire The weather had changed to te one he hates most...a dry season. He hates it when this happens, it ttests all preds esp wolves and feral dogs like himself. But he's stubborn and refuses to hurt a horse simply becuase his hungry, most of his new pack have left the lands for now as they don't trust themselvs to not attack and kill their friends. Only his mate and about 4-5 other followers dare to stay. They're thin adn they know the herd they stay with are growing more and more wary of them. No longer seeing Ginga and his remaining pack as friends righ now. Both parties know an understand so Ginga makes a choice and goes to find Alycone and Fire to tell them somthing. He doesn't want to and wold rather Not have them face Wolves alone but...He has no choice. Maybe once th rains return as does food and water. He won't give up though and will still try to look out for thm and other herds if he can. He too has been looking for a cure but he needs willing testers for it....With few horses trusting them it'd be a failure even if he did have a cure for their sickness.... "Alycone, fire...I must speak with you...I've notice the herd becoming more....restless...I..hate t say say this and i don't wish to leave but i do understand the reasons and i respect them. Most of my pack has left so they're not tempted to hunt your kind for you're our friends and we don't hurt friends....The herd doesn't seem to trust us anymore....so we must leave you for now...until the rains return and suppiess are plentiful enough to where there's no more dangerof us hunting your kind and ou friends. I will continue to work on a cure for this Staggering Desease you can get and try to help fro a distance. We'll mak sure to eat something before approaching first....I hope all goes well for you lot." Magnolia inected? yes calico the small filly she had found had disappeared a few days after finding it her symptoms were only just starting to occur it had been 5 days since she had caught it she already knew what it was so she stayed as far away from other horses as possible hoping her foal was ok inside the womb 0 players like this post! (Magnolia rolled a 28 out of 100, she does not abort. @Shadow: Everytime a healthy horse comes in contact with a sick one I roll for their health, 3 and above on a six sided dice is infection, below three is health. It is a completely random computer generated die. Pregnant mares who catch it are rolled for out of a one hundred sided die, 50 and above is abortion, below fifty the foal remains.
