So I think the boy I rolled is kind of, uh. Well: http://www.lioden.com/lion.php?mid=98820 I may end up retiring him early just because he's sort of unfortunate looking.

But I have no idea what to look for in a replacement and holy heck breeding seems complicated on this site!

I found these guides: http://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429186352 and http://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429186666 and I feel slightly less lost (special coats are, I assume, better than common coats in a king.) Though eyes and manes remain a mystery to me, too.

But if I were to go buy a male heir out of the TC I just would have no idea. So many different markings in so many slots and it sorta just makes my head swim.

So what do you look for? Are certain markings considered rarer/better than others (and if so is there a guide somewhere), or is it just a matter of which markings look best on which coats?

EDIT: Also, tangentially-related question: do people opt for low-fertility lionesses just to have fewer cubs to deal with? I see some people prefer them and I am confused.

Hello,

A good lion is what you consider good. Some people breed for looks, some breed for high stats. Some players breed for both. Breeding a good lion is completely based off of your own interests and current goals. Personally, I enjoy golden based lions while many other players see them as ugly. It's completely based on YOU as an individual. However, some really sought out marks are rosettes, felines, ice marks, etc. Some lions can have completely custom marks, that anyone can get, but their base is rare. Ice, hematite, moonstone, celestial, are some bases that people consider "good bases" but like I said, it's your opinion.

As for VLF, people generally buy and breed them because VLF have a higher chance of producing mutated cubs. But they can be an extreme pain to breed.

I like the golden colors too! (He's the same color, just about, as my dog. X3) It's just that after seeing the other markings available, I am sort of... not keen on his under golden markings. He looks like he got into some cheetohs.

That is good to know! Just felt utterly baffled in the face of the whole thing.

Didn't know that about VLF. Not suuuper interested in mutations but that may change down the line. I assume it's just to have something different around!

Don't be discouraged by other lions. If you like golden marks? Then put golden marks/breed golden marks. Don't feel inclined to follow the direction that other players are heading. Most players like to breed wacky lions with special marks, but I prefer to simply breed natural looking lions myself.

Manes however, well, many players adore Savage but I don't. I actually favor one of the more dislike manes known as Tsavo. But this event a new mane will be release so I suspect other players will consider it "valuable" for awhile.

Well, I just bought a new Prince to replace my king in a couple of weeks. I don't really care so much about stats so I only looked for a cub with a couple of markings that I didn't have. Then I used event applicators to add 2 more marks and change his base and mane color. I then spent 8 GB to change his eye color and mane shape.

As for what makes a good lion, it all depends on what you personally like. Do you care more about looks or stats? New marks are always valuable for a couple of months, especially ones that you can only get from event applicators. And the ones like Rosette that you can only get from breeding are almost always in demand. But again, it all depends on what you like. For example, the marking Under White 3 is pretty common, but I don't have it in my pride so to me it's rare.
