Submales basically just means male in your pride (besides your king) that are adults - so over 2 years old.

They can mainly be used for patrolling, which helps to increase their stats, which is useful if you want them to act as an heir to your king and become king themself when he retires.

For every submale you have (over the age of 2) you will also need a male slot - you start off without any, and you'll need to buy them. To buy them you click on the little '+' sign next to where it says Male Slots, just to the right of your king's picture on your den page. Initially the first two slots cost 500SB each, and after that more male slots cost GB so they can get expensive. Generally because males don't do much in your pride other than patrolling, it isn't necessarily worth having more than one or two anyway.
