THE RISE OF MUDCLAN
A Warriors Roleplay

Mods: InsertCleverNameHere and Potato Lord

For centuries, three clans of big cats have dominated these lands: Solclan, full of powerful and highly dominant lions; Shadeclan, the secretive clan of tigers; Roseclan, a collection of leopards, jaguars, and cats of similar stature. Without human influence, the three clans have grown to large sizes and thrived, learning to coexist within their own borders and, by extension, becoming more social than their non-clan cousins. But they are not alone. For nearly as long as the cats have survived here, they have shared the island with a group of canines¹. Having been proven the weakest and by far the least dominant, the canines were driven into "The Mud," a small swamp on the far-east coast.

An amalgamation of species, Roseclan is governed by a well-spoken snow leopard named Swanstar. Just like its population, the territory consists of several different climates: Snowy mountains, forests, plains, and a small section of jungle overlapping from Shadeclan. All sorts of prey are found here, from hare to deer to mountain goats.

Roseclan contains multiple different climates/biomes within its borders. The further north one goes, the drier and warmer it gets. On the east and west coasts, the air is more humid but varies as far as temperature with how far north or south one goes. To the south, especially below the river, the daytime temperature drops to 30° - 0° and less, declining the further south one goes.

Glacierwing | Snow Leopard | Female |30 moons | Mentions (indirectly) Stoneclimber, Swanstar, Nightfrost, Frozenglow, Copperthorn and Brody
Glacierwing stared at the strange leopard as he approached Stoneclimber and Swanstar, escorted by Nightfrost and Frozenglow. She had to strain to keep her burning curiosity under control and not look too interested in him, lest she seem less dignified than her respected parents beside her. Adrenaline weaved through her veins but almost disappointingly, he didnt seem to be a threat at all. Not that a sole foe would have been cause to fight when surrounded by clanmates anyway, but she always did enjoy the idea of a more exciting start to the her day. She discreetly sniffed the air and it was as though a puzzle piece fell into place. No wonder he had smelled so odd! His scent was indeed similar to that of Copperthorns. Her eyes flicked to Frozenglow and shone with anticipation. She was sure to interrogate him later about his first meeting with Brody.

"Pride, envy, avarice - these are the sparks have set on fire the hearts of all men."

Copperthorn • Male • 33 moons • Warrior • A Tall Tree • Mentions: Brody and the Party; Swanstar

This can't be. I abandoned that family a long time ago. Memories of his family returned, buzzing through his mind like a hive of angry bees. Copperthorn's claws flexed, creating grooves in the soft forest floor. His face betrayed anxiety and fury as the scent of his brother found his nostrils. As his sibling's face, surrounded by members of the clan, broke into camp, the jaguar's anger flourished. He charged forth, stopping short of the party. "What in Starclan's name are you doing here," he snarled, long tail lashing behind him.

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self."

Swanstar • Female • 95 moons • Leader • Camp • Mentions: Stoneclimber; Glacierwing; Brody Party

It had been a short while since Swanstar had welcomed a new cat to Roseclan, but it was obvious that this induction would be more difficult than others. The Stranger's appearance already garnered hostility from the one cat she would expect hostility from: Copperthorn. "Stoneclimber, Glacierwing, if you could take care of Copperthorn," she directed, turning her skull to her mate and looking at him with large, patient eyes. The jaguar had immediately responded with hostility, perhaps as a result of poor memories. In her peripherals, she spotted the lanky, scarred form of Finchfeather vanishing into the nursery as pregnant and nursing mothers were supposed to at the arrival of a stranger. And so, Swanstar's regal form stood, adopting an elegant, diplomatic stance, one certainly befitting of a skilled leader such as herself. "Welcome to Roseclan. Apologies for my Warrior's behavior. My husband and daughter will take care of him. I am Swanstar, leader of this diverse and noble clan. Who may you be?"

Stoneclimber | Male | Camp | Warrior | 108 Moons | Mentions: Swanstar, Brody, Glacierwing [Minor] Copperthorn [Direct]

The male snow leopard nodded his head firmly per his wife's request, instantly rising smoothly on muscular legs and beckoning Glacierwing to follow with his multi-hued tassel. The atmosphere was poisonous and Copperthorn's reaction was pure vitriolic, Stoneclimber did not waste time in crossing over to where the warrior stood, muscles taut, tail lashing and venom seething from behind tawny eyes. Stoneclimber attempted to remain neutral, briskly crossing in front of the Pantanal jaguar, directly in the line of fire, he squared his head and shoulders and gave Copperthorn a hard, serious expression through gunmetal blue eyes. "Calm down, Swanstar will handle it. If I need to treat you like a cub, Copperthorn, I will." Stoneclimber had no complaints about giving the warrior a cuff over the ear and then some, compared to the other male's structure, Stoneclimber was relatively loose and relaxed though his facial expression betrayed anything related. His round ears were perked and his jaw was firm, his eyes were steady and his whiskers didn't so much as twitch. He was aware there was a stranger -- or not-so stranger -- in camp and the fact unnerved him, though the snow leopard did not abandon his post in front of a hostile Copperthorn.

Nightfrost| 33 Moons| Jaguar (Melanistic)| Warrior| Mentions: Swanstar [Directly] Copperthorn, Stoneclimber, Glacierwing [Indirectly]

Bronze oculars landed on Copperthorn's seething form, hiding in their depths untouched fury that remained locked behind a safely guarded wall of patience and understanding, but just barely. The shadowy fae stood calmly, her body language sanguine and her movements supple as she moved to stand beside Brody, giving her leader a respectful dip of her head before speaking.
"I apologize for creating an inconvenience," With those words she glanced apologetically at the male next to her, but nevertheless carried on, despite what was happening close by, "He didn't seem like a threat, and his story made sense." Her position next to the newcomer may have seemed innocent, but standing where she was, there was one more cat that Copperthorn would have to get through before reaching his brother. Her clan-mates had never seen her angry before, and in her years of living no battle had been provided for her to show off her skills, but it would be a surprise to everyone if she showed how truly gifted a warrior she was. The best? No, definitely not, but a challenging opponent, yes. Black digits swirled atop her graceful head, catching the small whispers of conversation that made their way through camp. Perhaps bringing him here had been a bad idea, but it wouldn't help to dwell on the past. Besides, her fellow warrior was acting rather disgraceful, and Swanstar seemed, as always, to be unruffled by events. Stoneclimber and Glacierwing would handle the rowdy jaguar, Nightfrost had no doubts about that, but his reaction had her curious. Why was he so angry at the sight of his kin?

Bramblepaw| 18 Moons| Male Persian Leopard| Apprentice| Mentions: Everyone [Indirectly]

The air surrounding the camp was fraught with tension, and the smell of an unfamiliar cat teased at his nose. Pale fur rippled as he slipped into the outskirts of the dens, hopefully unnoticed. Everyone was locked on a large male jaguar, watching with bated breath as Copperthorn hissed and snarled, his fury unsated. It was daunting to see a different face among his clan-mates. Despite training his hardest every day, the young apprentice had a ways to go, and even though he was surrounded by trusted protectors, his fears weren't easily quelled. Their leader, Swanstar, and the ever-calm and collected Nightfrost, stood close by this rogue male. The both of them together pacified his need to hide. Catching sight of his mentor, Bramblepaw scurried into the large gathering of cats that bordered the tiny patrol. Stoneclimber was face-to-face with a smoldering flame, unfazed by Copperthorn's outburst. Leave it to him to tame the beast.

"Pride, envy, avarice - these are the sparks have set on fire the hearts of all men."

Copperthorn • Male • 33 moons • Warrior • A Tall Tree • Mentions: Brody and the Party; Stoneclimber

Copperthorn's boiling anger, even in the face of one such as Stoneclimber and several good warriors, was only sedated by his love for the clan and his undying respect for Swanstar and her family. He straightened, the burning fire in his eyes not yet doused, and squared his furious jaw. Exploding in this way would certainly damage the respect he'd garnered during his time there. Still, it didn,t mean he wasn't fuming internally.

| Brody |
Male • 33 Moons • Pantanal Jaguar • Rogue
Location: Roseclan Territory • Mentions: {Directly} Nightfrost, Echosoul, Frozenglow, Oakfall, Copperthorn, Swanstar, Stoneclimber, Glacierwing, everyone else in camp

It took everything in Brody not to flinch away as his brother rushed toward him with open hostility, the worst case scenario in his mind becoming a reality. Two of the white-furred leopards moved to shield him from Copperthorn's fury and Nightfrost moved closer as well, as if she too would defend him should his furious kin continue his assault. He considered making an escape, pushing through the crowd to return from where he once came, but that would be the act of a coward, and he supposed if he owed Copperthorn anything it was an explanation. "I came upon this land by chance. It was not my intention to linger, but I caught your scent among the others at the border, and only a day after that I saw you from afar."

He hesitated for a moment, wondering how much more he should say, but ultimately concluded the truth was all he could offer. "I've been around for a little over a moon," he admitted. "Debating whether or not I should approach you. I can see now it was a mistake and I should have carried on my way," he finished more curtly. His own gaze hardening. What had he ever done to deserve such a fierce greeting? Did his mere existence insult him? Did Fire hate his former life and resent his birth family that much? Pushing down a fresh rush of anger, he forced his bristling fur to flatten before returning his attention to the lady in charge. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Swanstar, and that of your family as well. I apologize again for the disturbance. My name is Brody, I am merely a traveller passing by."

Even the diverse cast of cats in Roseclan weren't safe from the rain. Though they were moderately sheltered by the canopy of trees, fat raindrops still found purchase on nearly every cat's head. Expectant and nursing mothers were sheltered from the downpour in the nursery, its stony exterior and elevated interior saving the vulnerable cats from illness that might stem from such damp conditions. The snow leopards, who had just returned from a week spent in the mountains, were glad for it as the storm dropped the temperature by a considerable amount. Swanstar perched atop her den, announcing all those who would be attending the Roaring Call.

pre time-skip ~ no need for reply Glacierwing | Snow Leopard | 30 Moons | Mentions Brody, Stoneclimber, Copperthorn and Swanstar
Glacierwing followed her father's lead, placing her snow-dappled form between Copperthorn and Brody. Her pale eyes were large with concern, mostly for Copperthorn's behalf. She had seem him angry before of course, but not on a level quite so...personal. The reveal of his brother must have been a huge shock but she couldn't understand why that shock came with such anger. The idea of such rage directed towards her own brother, Frozenglow, was inconceivable. Well, she would do whatever she had to to protect her clanmate from whatever demon he was struggling with, and the resolve showed in the set of her chin and shoulders. She had the exciting morning she'd wished for, though it had come in a way completely unexpected.

POST time skip
Glacierwing | Snow Leopard | Female | 30ish moons | In camp
Glacierwing lift her pale face to the sky, closing eyes and welcoming the rain with a rare peaceful expression. She let out a sigh and a shiver ran through her thick pelt. She and the other snow leopards had only just returned from the mountains but already she longed for wintry peaks again, where the air burned her lungs and she could sink into snow drifts as far as her chin that would chill her to her bones. The snow made her feel as though she walked on clouds and being so refreshingly cool at all hours made her feel full of energy. Being anywhere else felt like wading through mud in comparison. The coming storm would surely bring relief. The young fae padded to the warriors den and slipped inside, the sudden warmth already flushing through her pelt and releasing any tension from her muscles. She sat just within the opening and began drawing her tongue over her pelt in long, strong strokes, cleaning any dirt and debris away.

Lionpool||Warrior||Female||Caracal||56 Moons||Camp||Mentions: [Direct] Glacierwing [Indirect] Copperthorn, Brody, Langurtail

It had been a moon since Copperthorn broke out in a burning fit of rage, but she pondered on the fact. She turned her small head toward Glacierwing, and walked over to the pale leopard. "Where is Copperthorn? I haven't seen him since last moon." She sat down, her long legs dwarfing the rest of her body. Where was Langurtail? She must be off flirting with that rogue. Lionpool had no problem with her daughter trying to find love, she was older now. But is it really necessary at such a young age? She doesn't understand the dangers. She doesn't understand the dangers. She doesn't understand the dangers. Lionpool kept telling herself. But she couldn't help but think that she did understand. She remembered she was engaging in a social interaction, and turned her head to Glacierwing.

Nightfrost| 34 Moons| Jaguar (Melanistic)| Warrior| Mentions: Lionpool, Glacierwing [Directly] Brody, Copperthorn [Indirectly]

Water droplets splashed down onto the camp, creating a peaceful tune, combined with the muffled birdsong and the calls of distant prey. A fine mist had begun to accumulate in the air, creating a sort of thin haze that made everything a tad blurry. Beneath a massive fern, a black tail tip twitched, the only visible body part of the lithe she-cat that lay hidden in the bracken. Two half-closed golden eyes watched the goings on with mild curiosity, their owner remaining still inside of her dry hiding place. This weather always made her relax, and in doing so made her slightly lazy, not to mention her cozy den was only adding to that fact. A large yawn made its way up her throat, revealing sharp fangs and a pink tongue. Licking her jowls, Nightfrost stretched her front paws, dirt and dead leaves moving as her claws unsheathed. It was nearly time for the Roaring Call, and as such she needed to get a move on. With a light shiver, the jet-black female exited her warm hideaway and trotted gracefully over to the two she-cats conversing in front of the warrior's den.
"Hello GlacIerwing, Lionpool." Her gentle, elegant voice carried through the air. Sitting down, Nightfrost curled her tail around her paws, listening intently to Lionpool's question. It was true, she had scarcely seen Copperthorn for the past moon as well, most likely due to the fact that his brother had decided to stay. Brody was doing well in Roseclan, at least she thought, for she hadn't gotten the chance to converse with the former rogue in quite a while.

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self."

Swanstar • Female • 96 moons • Leader • Atop the Leader's Den • Mentions: Gathering Party

"Cats of Roseclan!," Swanstar decreed, standing proudly atop her den and speaking over the hum of the rain. Her dark pelt was dyed nearly black by the cascading rain, molding her large rosettes into giant ebony blotches. "As you know, the Roaring Call occurs this month! The following cats will attend: Cliffwalker, Glacierwing, NIghtfrost, Oakfall, Boomslangstorm, and last, but certainly not least, Daisypaw." She waited for each cat whose name who had been called to find themselves around her den, whereupon she would continue her spiel. After the cats had hopefully gathered around, the snow leopardess sat, wrapping her tail around her paws. A polite smile played across her face, water dripping from her chin and cheeks, before she began to speak again. Her voice was softer, but still audible over the downpour. "Now, I expect all of you to represent our great clan well," her eyes drifted across the cats' faces, lingering on her daughters for a moment longer than the rest, "You will treat the Shadeclan and Solclan cats with respect. I think it would be in your best interests to socialize with the other clans, but there must be absolutely no fighting, arguing, bickering, or anything hostile. If you have any problems, separate yourself immediately. You will be silent when the leaders are speaking."

"Pride, envy, avarice - these are the sparks have set on fire the hearts of all men."

Copperthorn • Male • 34 moons • Warrior • A Tall Tree • Mentions: [Indirectly] Roaring Call Attendees; Tidebreaker

Droplets of water that found their way through the thick leaves dribbled onto Copperthorn's hidden body, making dark stripes along his bulky body. He'd secluded himself in a tree, coming out just to hunt, make dirt, eat, and go on the odd patrol. His eyes grazed across the group of cats at the Gathering Call, though there was no envy in his mind. Joining the Roaring Call would mean having to socialize with lions and tigers, including apprentices who had never seen other species besides their own before. He didn't dare allow his eyes to wander too much, in case he found his brother's figure. He and Tidebreaker, as Brody had now been dubbed, had not seen each other since he'd arrived. It was apparent that either or both of the brothers had been avoiding each other.

Stoneclimber | Male | Camp | Warrior | 108 Moons | Mentions: TRC Party, Finchfeather, Bramblepaw [Minor]

The male snow leopard lingered on the outskirts of where the Roaring Call participants would be gathered, his expression neutral but not without slight longing. His daughter, Glacierwing, would be attending The Call, his wife Swanstar would also be attending The Call and his son was nowhere to be seen at the moment. Stoneclimber's fur was rain-soaked, it was nice to cool down and have a break from the heat but at the moment, he did not think he could enjoy it. For hours, he would be without a large majority of his family, but it was necessary. Stoneclimber would take care of the felines who would also be left behind, like Finchfeather, the queen was so heavily pregnant she could scarcely walk outside of the nursery and the cheetah would no doubt appreciate any help he would offer, though they didn't talk much and his absence from The Roaring Call also offered him ample time to work more with Bramblepaw, he hadn't forgotten how the apprentice had slipped out of camp. Planting his large paws firmly on the ground, Stoneclimber shook his body feverishly, flinging moisture from his coat before beginning to pad towards the warrior's den, seeking shelter from the rain.

Daisypaw | Female | Camp | Medicine Cat's Apprentice | 18 Moons | Mentions: TRC Party

As her name was called, the petite feline padded carefully towards Swanstar's den along with the rest of the chosen, where the noble leader perched herself and gave out the proper instructions with a soft, yet audible voice. Excitement shone gleefully in the slightly slanted eyes of the young novice, her large ears obediently slicked back and her thick coat matted against her physique from the downpour. She didn't mind the rain, however, though it could be rather irritating, her mind was moreso focused on The Roaring Call. She would have no trouble in staying out of hostile situations, she didn't like conflict anyhow and Daisypaw doubted Boomslangstorm would let her go off on a mission of mischief without giving her an earful.

Oakfall
Male | 28 Moons | Liger | Warrior
Location: Beyond RoseClan Border | Mentions: Swanstar {Directly}

Oakfall was shocked to hear his name, this would be only his third time attending, second in a row. He was grateful certainly, but after his refusal to participate in any plan they had at stopping the canines of the mud, he'd expect her to shun him. Of course that was only foolish of him, Swanstar was known for kind reasoning, finding a way to make everyone satisfied and sometimes even forgetting her own satisfactions. At least that's what he'd heard, he never really talked to her long enough to know her on a personal level, and he hoped this was a sign that she'd like too. They maybe even shared the same view, he hadn't exactly discussed that with her either, though he assumed like any leader would that she'd want the canines gone. After all it was their fault RoseClan had almost lost their ties to SolClan, might have even ended in something awful. He refused to think of such things, and shook his maned head, focusing in on what the leader was saying.

Of course, respect the Clans, that's what kept them all safe and kept them all peaceful. The rain fell hard on him as Swanstar continued, and he followed her gaze to look at all who had been chosen. He guessed her reason for saying that speech was her desperation to make sure they'd all follow it, especially with tensions so high amongst the cats. As her voice faded out in the mist that shrouded the camp, he got to his large paws feeling quiet heavy with his wet pelt against his bones. He'd prepare for the journey to the Roaring Call, making sure his belly was full of warm meat for the cold and wet path that they'd travel. He only hoped everything went as StarClan wished.

Langurtail | Female | 24 moons | Clouded Leopard | Location: Camp | Warrior | Mentions: [Directly] Lionpool, Glacierwing [Indirectly] Copperthorn, Brody

Langurtail walked into camp with a small bird in her jaws. She wanted a difficult catch to challenge herself and that is what she found. Since it started raining, most birds and rodents went in their homes to hide but she was able to catch a small one. Langurtail saw her mother talking to Glacierwing and wanted to see what was going on. She walked to the Fresh Kill Pile and dropped the bird then continued on her way to Lionpool. Once Langurtail reached the two cats, she heard something about Copperthorn and the new rogue. "Mother...Glacierwing.." She nodded to both of them. Copperthorn was upset at the rogue but Langurtail thought he was fine. What was the name of the rogue again? Brody. Maybe he'll follow Roseclan to the Roaring Call. Langurtail tuned back to the conversation that Lionpool and Glacierwing were having.

Glacierwing | Snow Leopard | Female | 31 Moons | Camp | Mentions (directly): Nightfrost, Lionpool, Swanstar

Glacierwing mewed a greeting to Lionpool, pausing in her grooming to answer the caracal. "I haven't seen him at all since I returned but I'm sure he's around somewhere. Hopefully he snaps out of this sulk soon, otherwise we'll begin to forget what he even looks like," she smile betrayed a deeper emotion however. Glacierwing hated hostility between clan members, family members no less. Especially when it was Copperthorn who was so caught up in this web of anger. The snow leopard nodded to Nightfrost as the inky Jaguar approached. "Nightfrost," she said in greeting and directed a friendly smile to Langurtail when she heard the clouded leopards hello.

Swanstar's call drew her attention and Glacierwing padded over to where the leader was giving her announcement for the roaring call. Hearing her name be called, Glacierwing felt a spike of excitement surge through her and thrashed her long tail behind her. "Yes!" she whispered under her breath and bounced on her toes. Seeing the other big cats of the clans was always interesting. The most fun was exchanging barbed words with them, and seeing how long it took each individual to make a lunge. Nothing was done with malicious intent but there was a certain thrill to seeing an enraged tiger charge towards you and knowing the only thing between you and their claws was the treaty of the roaring call.
The young snow leopard made her way over to Swanstar's den and listened to her mothers words with care. At the instruction to refrain from bickering and hostility however, Glacierwing deflated like a pufferfish all out of air. She cast her gray eyes downwards and felt her mothers gaze linger on her a beat longer than the others. "Understood," she said and tried to force her disappointed to the back of her mind. Perhaps being a tad more responsible at the roaring call would bring her a step closer to being like Swanstar. The thought encouraged her and she raised her head, giving Swanstar a firm nod.
