THE RISE OF MUDCLAN
THE ROARING CALL
A Warriors Roleplay
Mods: InserCleverNameHere and Potato Lord

Throughout all of history, cats and dogs have been regarded as mortal enemies. And nature's proven this no different: wolves against cougars, hyenas (though they're not true dogs), jackals, and african wild dogs against lions, dholes against tigers, the list goes on. And these clans are no exception.

For centuries, three clans of big cats have dominated these lands: Solclan, full of powerful and highly dominant lions; Shadeclan, the secretive clan of tigers; and Roseclan, a collection of leopards, jaguars, and cats of similar stature. Without human influence, the three clans have grown to large sizes and thrived, learning to coexist within their own borders and, by extension, becoming more social than their non-clan cousins. But they are not alone. For nearly as long as the cats have survived here, they have shared the island with a group of canines¹. Having been proven the weakest and by far the least dominant, the canines were driven into "The Mud," a small swamp on the far-east coast.

These "Dogs," as they're referred to by the cats, have been forcefully separated from traditional customs such as warrior names, The Roaring Call, and the blessings of Starclan.

8i65jzK6T.png

Once every month the three clans meet in a neutral gathering place, a spot beside and around a river where the three territories meet, under a truce. The purpose is to share news, catch up, and promote peace between the clans. These meetings often last for hours, starting in the morning and ending at night. Games for cubs and apprentices are set up, warriors of different packs hunt together to provide nourishment and sharing of tongues is not uncommon. At the end of the night all three packs join together to roar to Star Pack, a cacophony of voices that can sometimes be heard all the way in The Mud, before departing.

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self."

Swanstar • Female • 96 moons • Leader • Meadow • Mentions: Bronzeclaw; Scorchstar

The cats of Roseclan emptied into the clearing, leaving Swanstar alone. She lifted a wide paw, raking her sandpaper tongue across her pale fur. A deep voice persuaded the snow leopardess to lift her eyes and allow her paw to drop back down to the grass. "Good morning, Bronzeclaw," she greeted, smiling politely. Last she'd known, he'd been but a Warrior. "I'm doing rather well. The rain's dreadful, isn't it?" While she didn't mind it, diplomacy often included catering to others. Scorchstar's arrival prompted another polite nod. As the males began to converse, it became evident that tensions were high between the tigers and lions. The stench of testosterone was evident in the male's more heated conversation as Scorchstar referenced the mysterious absence of the ghostly leader and deputy. Were she a zealous male, she may have joined in the debate with her own opinions. But as she was not in fact a male, the female stayed silent, running her tongue along her fluffy chest, ears perked to listen to the two cats, and waited for the verbal storm to pass.

"Who cares what happens when we’re dead? We shouldn’t think that far ahead. The only latter day that matters is tomorrow."

Grasspaw • Male • 13 moons • Apprentice • Roaring Call Meadow --> Fallen Log • Mentions: OPEN

As the lions were dismissed, Grasspaw rocketed forward, completely forgetting his mother's presence for the time being. He skirted out of the way of his fellow clanmates, vying to meet some unique cats. His mission was interrupted however, as his large sepia eyes found the river and the carcass of an ancient tree draped sturdily across the narrowest part of the river. "Sick!," he exclaimed, bounding towards the fallen log. The tangle of upturned roots only further drew the young adolescent toward it. He scrambled up the clay, his claws not quite finding purchase in the loose sediment. Grasspaw slid back down, bunching his hind legs and leaping up again. This time, he was sent further up and his claws caught the gnarled roots. Straining, the apprentice pulled himself over the roots and onto the log. He stood tall, roaring with juvenile ferocity as if inviting anyone to challenge his "King of the Log" position.

"I used to be better. I used to be better. I used to be better."

Otterleap • Male • 51 moons • Warrior • Meadow • Mentions: TRC Clans; Winterflame

Otterleap was among the last to enter the clearing, glaring curiously about. Across the way, two leaders and a deputy spoke. A young lion claimed his spot on a fallen log, forcing a quiet chortle from the bulky male's throat. Young males always garnered a lick of humor from the tiger, their playful and often-zealous nature appealing to an elusive juvenile instinct embedded deep in the mature male. He wasn't one to greet strangers, much less members of a foreign clan, but he felt that he would look out of place if he didn't speak to someone. Winterflame's familiar figure caught his eye and within an instance, the Warrior elected the female as the one who he'd speak to. The striking vermilion male began a bouncing trot towards the female, slowing as he caught up to her. "Surreal, isn't it?"

♚ E V E N I N G S T A R ♚
Male | 72 Moons | Transvaal Lion | SolClan Leader
Mentions: Scorchstar, Swanstar, Bronzeclaw

"I'm glad to hear you're so concerned about me." A deep, haughty voice intercepted the conversing felines as he made his way through the crowd, cats parting promptly to allow the ivory-coated leader to make his way over. He eyed his deputy for a moment, reading into his calm demeanour and vague tone and eventually giving him a small nod of approval. Despite not feeling overly pleased that the deputy had chosen to put himself in his position, he supposed the lion felt as though he didn't have much of a choice. "Swanstar." His mane-clad neck bowed graciously to the pretty snow leopard, his eyes friendly and his tone polite. Upon approaching the ShadeClan leader, however, he naturally couldn't help but be a bit aloof. "Scorchstar. You're looking well. My apologies for not being more punctual, I just had some business to tend to back at home. Nothing serious." He threw his head back slightly, giving the front of his coat a few careful licks before swiping his tongue across his jaws. It was clear he wasn't planning on sharing much else with them. "Remind me again what I find difficult to listen to? Bronzeclaw is right, my friend. I will not put my clan's lives at risk without serious premeditation. The dogs are a nuisance, but I can't see myself being put in a perilous position simply by waiting a bit longer and putting together a well orchestrated plan." Sage green eyes turned to look curiously at Swanstar, genuinely interested by what her own opinion would prove to be. "What are your thoughts, Swanstar? Have those mutts wisely avoided your lands?"

Daisypaw | Female | Meadow | Medicine Cat's Apprentice | 18 Moons | Mentions: TRC Participants

Upon entering the meeting place, Daisypaw could feel her fur prickle with elation. Everything seemed so alien outside of RoseClan borders and though it wasn't her first time Daisypaw felt as if it could have been. She wished Boomslangstorm had come with her though, for RoseClan, she was the only apprentice to attend and it would be a little lonely but she supposed the medicine cat's absence would help her in making friends with apprentices from other Clans. The lynx stood among her clan-mates as Swanstar spoke and when the leader went to converse with the other leaders, their group began to loosely disperse. She glanced this way and that, spring green eyes as round as saucers; the novice actively searched for more younger felines among the clans, wondering if any of them would like to interact with her. Despite any insecurities she may have had, Daisypaw weaved through the conversing felines of each clan, aiming for nowhere in particular.

Redtooth | Male | Meadow | Warrior | 88 Moons | Mentions: TRC Participants

Amidst the many variations of felines from the broad, thick-maned lion and the muscular striped pelage of the tiger to the shorter-legged lynx and the pale-coated snow leopard, Redtooth's tainted multi-hued coat crept passed those attending The Roaring Call. His fur was still dark and slick against his physique, blades of pale meadow grass clinging to his fur and drying into the clumps of mud he'd gathered on himself during the journey. His golden yellow eyes bore a hard, steely glint as the fur along his spine lifted, though not from any form of excitement. Being so close to others that were not of his Clan put all of his senses on alert. His long tail swished, slightly heavy and numb itself. He was no longer enjoying the weather, the rain slurred scents and mugged him of his senses. The male approached the rushing river, the familiar glint of silver scales flashing underneath the water's surface. His round, dark ears swerved to face behind him, hoping to catch anything suspicious as he dipped his head and flicked his tongue outwards, cupping mouthfuls of cool water with his flexible tongue before depositing the liquid down the hatch.

the_white_lady_by_mararda-d6d1jw1.jpg

Lilystream | Female | Meadow | Warrior | 31 Moons | Mentions: TRC Participants, Frostheart, Fawnstep [Minor]

Hazelnut brown irises surveyed her surroundings slowly as the lioness drew to a halt on the outskirts of her pride's wayfaring group, a change from the spot she had previously been at, which was amidst the group, beside Fawnstep. She had slowly but surely broke away from the male once they drew closer to the meeting place, though Lilystream could only feel slight disappointment as she gazed around. Perhaps she was hoping she was find Frostheart in this clearing, but he was not. Her tail flicked once and the lioness began to slowly move around, though not to converse. There was nothing she had to say to anyone. The rain still continued on, though not as harsh as it once was, hopefully, it would stop completely. In this meadow, there was little to cover her from the elements. Maybe she could go fishing in the stream? The gazelle she and Fawnstep had started on but did not finish had been something nice to comfort her stomach for the walk, but not to fill it. Despite these thoughts, she didn't aim for stream, instead walking breezily around, offering short greetings to those who called out to her though not staying for too long.

Lilypaw | 7 Moons Female Tiger | ShadeClan Apple | Mentions: Scorchstar,
Bronzeclaw, Swanstar, Eveningstar

The tawny youth trailed after the ShadeClan leader, studying the felines Scorchstar began to converse with while she hovered a few feet behind him. Her gaze turned towards the other cats attending The Roaring Call, her eyes light and curious, but she doesn't feel interested enough to approach anyone. Instead, she tilts her head back to watch the huge figure of who she guesses to be Eveningstar, his golden pelt rippling over hard muscle. Then she looks at Scorchstar, studying his figure. He's also quite handsome, his unusual pelt interesting.
Lilypaw takes a few steps to the side, the topic they're discussing drawing her attention. The striped cub sits down, tilting her head while listening. Ah, yes, the MudClan canines. She shudders, hoping the mutts will stay in their own territory. She scrunches her nose whilst carefully listening, dipping her head to bat at a blade of grass which a beetle crawls along.

(Gah, short, sorry! I didn't subscribe to this thread until today, lmao)

SnowPaw ~ Female ~ 1 year, 4 months ~ White siberian tiger ~ Apprentice ~ Location: Gathering
Mentions: GrassPaw

SnowPaws icy blue eyes landed on a male adolescent on a log. Se tilted her head from his roar. He looked fun! He wouldn' be mean because theres a truce, right?
The white adolescent creeped closer, her tail held high. She watched the log, and she remembered how difficult it seemed to be to climb when GrassPaw was climbing it. She leaped, missing the roots by an inch before she fell back down, catching her fall in a matter of seconds. She lashed her tail, cocking her head. If she could just leap far enough..
Yes! She snagged one of the roots with her claws. Now how does she pull herself up?
The rain caused the roots to be a little slippery and soft, so she can sink her claws in them a little. She reached for a few, pulling herself up. She let out a startled squeak when one of the roots let out a soft crack. She shook her head and hopped onto the log, staring at the lion. She didn't know what to say.
"Hi! I'm Snowpaw! Moonpaw's sister!" SHe purred, rolling on her back. She still feels like she needs to show submisson.

Nightpaw/ Solclan MCA/ 6 Moons/ Mentions: Daisypaw (Directly) / open for interaction

While the younger apprentice was wandering between the paws and bodies of the older cats he hardly paid any attention to where he was walking. When he ran into someone he was quickly knocked onto his haunches, he recovered enough to stand up. "S-Sorry!" He stammered to whomever he bumped into.

| Scorchstar |
Male • 97 Moons • Amur x Bengal Tiger (Golden Tabby) • Leader
Location: Meadow • Mentions: {Directly} Bronzeclaw, Eveningstar, Swanstar, Brokenfeather

A flash of annoyance passed over Scorchstar's face as first Bronzeclaw and then Eveningstar, at last making a grand appearance, shot down any notion of war without a second thought. "You both must be hard of hearing," he replied dryly, flexing his claws, pausing briefly to remove a few scraps of muddy grass clinging to the dark nails. "I don't re-call mentioning rushing into this without a plan." He said nothing else on the matter, the familiar rush of hot anger threatening to break free. It would do no good to lose composure at the Roaring Call. If these fools wanted to risk more lives lost he wouldn't feel an ounce of pity for them once more of their warriors and apprentices disappeared. The flick of his ear signified he had heard Brokenfeather's contribution and his gaze flickered toward Swanstar's deputy with interest. Finally. Someone talking sense.

| Tidebreaker |
Male • 34 Moons • Pantanal Jaguar • Warrior
Location: Meadow • Mentions: {Directly} Brokenfeather, Moonpaw, Nightfrost

Brokenfeather fled with little explanation for his behavior and Tidebreaker stared after him with a frown, uncertain whether or not he should follow or give the deputy some space. Moonpaw recovered quickly from the odd encounter, his enthusiasm now directed at him. "Greetings Moonpaw. I am Tidebreaker," he responded, venturing closer until he stood just in front of the apprentice, nodding to Nightfrost before his attention returned to the white cub. "You are from Shadeclan, I presume?" He asked, noting Moonpaw didn't quite match the description of tigers he had been given before arriving. "This is my first Roaring Call. Have you been here before?"

|| Patcheart ||
| Female | 6Yrs 1M(73Mns) | Siberian Tiger | Deputy |
| Location: Meadow | MD: Lilypaw |
| MI: Scorchstar, Eveningstar, Swanstar, Bronzeclaw, Brokenfeather, Nightfrost, Tidebreaker, Grasspaw, Moonpaw, Snowpaw|

As Shadeclan entered the the clearing Patcheart only took a few seconds to warn her clanmates to keep altercations respectful, if not friendly...the mahogany tigress also declared that if she saw anyone stepping out of their boundaries that they would be directly dealt with by the deputy herself. The female's tone made it clear that it would not be a desirable option.

As her clan, Solclan, and Roseclan dispersed and mingled the Shadeclan deputy sat still for a few minutes, eyes tracking the movements of her clanmates...especially the apprentices. Moonpaw, charismatic as always in his own way, had drawn the attention of two jaguar warriors from Roseclan...along with the deputy. When the Roseclan deputy startled the young apprentice Patcheart was quick to gain her footing, the lash of her tail the only sign of distress from the tigress...but luckily the altercation blew over quickly with the Roseclan deputy making his way over to the group of leaders conversing in the middle of the clearing.

Snowpaw had wandered her way over to an adolescent lion who seemed to have claimed a spot on the log spanning across the smallest part of the river...nothing seemed to be amiss on that front, but Patcheart made sure to glance at the two apprentices often. In all-likelihood Snowpaw was a strong swimmer like the rest of her kind, though the Shadeclan deputy could not be positive. The Solcan apprentice though....lions were not fond of water and Patcheart worried that the male apprentice had not been properly taught how to swim. Even the laziest of rivers could be deadly for those who did not learn how to deal with large bodies of water properly. Best to keep an eye on the two.

Ever so slowly the female relaxed as it looked as if everyone was getting along...or at the very least being respectful to one another. One could never truly foresee what would take place during these meetings and with the rumors of Mudclan becoming continually more strained....well, it was safe to say that Patcheart did not look forward to these gatherings as much as she once had. Speaking of Mudclan...Patcheart's ears twitched as she caught the occasional sentence exchanged between Scorchstar, Eveningstar, Swanstar and the other felines gathered around the three leaders...along with the apprentice Lilypaw. That would not do, not at all...the occasional mention of Mudclan along with a well placed warning around the apprentices was fine...but discussions of war were not for the ears of apprentice, especially such a new one.

Padding forward slowly Patcheart came up beside the young apprentice, taking a seat beside the female before studying the feline with interest. She did not know the young cat well, had probably exchanged only a few words with the apprentice...it was times like these that Patcheart regretted her choice to change from a medicine cat apprentice to follow in the footsteps of her father, Snaketail, who had once held the rank of deputy within Shadeclan. Patcheart had no doubt that Darkwood, her brother and medicine cat of the clan, had a better idea of the Lilypaw's personality. Patcheart absolutely adored the young, but aside from her own children and the occasional apprentice, the tigress often found herself surprised when yet another adolescent she did not know became a warrior.

"Greetings Lilypaw, how has the first few minutes of your first Roaring gone?"

(I apologize I did not post sooner, I've come down with a horrible case of procrastination in the last few days...I will try and be more active in the near future.)

Lilypaw | 7 Moons Female Tiger | ShadeClan Apple | Mentions: Scorchstar,
Bronzeclaw, Swanstar, Eveningstar, Patcheart

To say the least, Lilypaw was startled to be approached by a higher up. She jumped, if only slightly, and then raised her amber gaze to study Patcheart. Only then did she relax, realizing the tiger is the ShadeClan deputy. "Very interesting," Lilypaw announces, her voice soft and slightly hushed; she doesn't wish to interrupt the leader's conversation. "MudClan is a rising threat," She adds, one of her black-and-white ears flicking towards Scorchstar, as though it is new information. I wonder how that SolClan apprentice looked when they found them. Had the vultures gotten to the corpse yet? Deciding to bring her inquiry to her lips, Lilypaw takes a few steps back and then sits back down, hoping Patcheart will follow.
"Have you ever seen a dead body, ma'am?" She asks, tilting her head curiously, her tail curling around her paws while she casts a quick glance around. Lilypaw isn't sure if the question is a weird one, but doesn't want to be viewed as a weirdo by Scorchstar. Or maybe she is a weirdo? A freak? She knows she's supposed to feel certain emotions which she cannot feel. Perhaps that's what makes her different? A weirdo? A freak? The youngling brings her focus back to the conversation.

Daisypaw | Female | Meadow | Medicine Cat's Apprentice | 18 Moons | Mentions: Grasspaw [Minor] Nightpaw [Direct]

Daisypaw was a little too overwhelmed as she took in the sights before her, it was amazing how all the clans seemed to cast aside any ill-will and conversed between each other. The SolClan warriors came in many shades, but they were all broad and profound beasts, especially the males with their thick, intimidating manes. ShadeClan's warriors were muscular and each had a unique pattern of stripes, some extremely large in size and others on a smaller scale. A sound caught her senses, it was loud and fierce but without proper maturity to back up the vocalization, Daisypaw turned her head towards the rushing river, where a younger SolClan member had settled. This newfound interest tore her eyes away from what was in front of her and after a few heartbeats, she felt her body collide with another. The impact sent them both stumbling backwards and Daisypaw grimaced as she lost her footing and found herself sprawled in the muddy soil. The lynx scrambled to get up, the skin underneath her pelt burning with her embarrassment. "It's okay, I wasn't looking where I was going." She replied, blinking furiously to steady her vision. A SolClan apprentice had bumped into her, it seemed. The novice looked and smelled younger than she was, but his size certainly trumped hers. Large ears twitching uncertainly, Daisypaw took a step back.

Treewhisker | Female | 60 moons | West African Lioness | Location: Camp | Warrior | Mentions: [Directly]: Redtooth [Indirectly] Grasspaw

Treewhisker watched her son Sprint towards the fallen tree and she could t help but worry. There was a rushing river down below the tree lighting, and Grasspaw could slip. Treewhisker trotted after her son but he was already on the light by the time she got to the bank. Her ears twitched with worry. Treewhisker spotted a big, dark orange tiger next to her and decided that she should talk to him. She also need to leave Grasspaw alone for once in his life. "Hello. I'm Treewhisker from Solclan. And you are?" Her gentle voiced filled the air as she looked the striped feline. He seemed to be very alert of his surroundings. Perhaps he didn't trust the Roaring call that much? Treewhisker kept one ear towards Grasspaw in case something did happen.

Nightpaw flicked his tail. "No its alright, the fault was mine." He assured the female. "I'm trying to find one of the Clans medicine cats." He explained. "I need to go to the Moon lake tonight." "There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self."

Swanstar • Female • 96 moons • Leader • Meadow • Mentions: Eveningstar; Lillypaw; Patchheart; Bronzeclaw; Scorchstar

Swanstar paused her grooming, swiping her tongue over her gray jowls, as her steel eyes caught the ghostly form of Solclan's leader. "I think males shouldn't be presumptuous about the absence of strong leaders," she interrupted, gesturing towards Eveningstar. She returned his greeting with a smile and nod of her own, the tip of her tail waving slightly in casual contentment. "Thank you, Eveningstar. At least someone wants to hear this old girl's opinion," she began, sending a frosty look towards the Solclan Deputy and Shadeclan Leader, "I can't truthfully say that they haven't found their ways into Roseclan's humble lands. Last moon, one of my patrols caught the scent of dogs on the border and a spot of blood from what seemed like a dove. It seems that they've been stealing from our lands. We've increased patrols along the Mud border and I encourage you do do the same, Eveningstar." The light, juvenile voice of a young tiger caught her rounded ear and the snow leopardess swiveled her head, spotting the form of a young Shadeclan apprentice. These were sensitive matters, especially for a young cat. "Oh dear," she chirped, adopting the maternal voice she'd often adopted when dealing with her own children, "This isn't suitable material for an apprentice, I'm afraid. While interests in such serious political dealings is admirable in one such as yourself, I must ask you to find another place to sit." Her eyes drifted from the young tigress to the Shadeclan deputy, flashing Patchheart an apologetic look for interrupting.

Grasspaw • Male • 13 moons • Apprentice • Fallen Log • Mentions: Snowpaw

Grasspaw's boisterous show of dominance upon the tree was soon interrupted by the appearance of a pale tiger, who had scrambled up the roots in a similar fashion that he had moments before. "Hey Snowpaw! I'm Grasspaw-- oh?" the young male cocked his head as the older apprentice rolled onto her back, his brown eyes following her submissive position. "Careful, you might fall off laying on your back like that. You need to grip like this to stay on." He glanced towards his paws, where his claws were unsheathed and grasping the wood so that he wouldn't fall off. "Pretty smart, I know," he boasted, straightening his spine, "That's why I'm Eveningstar's apprentice. You have to be pretty smart to be a leader's apprentice."

She rolled back on her belly, pusing herself to her paws and sinking her claws into te bark. "I know, But my body just forces me into a submissive position." She gave a shrug while speaking, and her eyes brightened when the lion cub,- GrassPaw, said that he is his leaders apprentice!! "Oh really?? Thats cool! I have th most scariest warrior in my clan as my mentor. She taught me ow to catch a snake!!" She boasted, before quickly sutting her mouth. SnowPaw doesn't want er arrogance to show so quickly. But GrassPaw seems boastful and arrogant as well.

"It must be cool being EveningStars apprentice!! Hows it like!!" SnowPaw mewed.
