General Roleplay Rules

Players are free to roleplay to their heart's content here, but before doing so, we ask that you please keep the following in mind before you roleplay with other players or come up with characters.

1. Roleplay Content
  1. Remember that Lioden is a website that is suited for a 16+ audience, not 18+. We ask that you avoid graphic descriptions - if you wouldn't see it while exploring, it probably shouldn't be a roleplay topic.
    1. Mating and sex-themed roleplays are not allowed. If you wish for mating/sex to occur, it's fine to mention it vaguely that it happened, or mention a "fade-to-black" screen occurred in order to skip any sexual descriptions.
    2. Attempting to get around the previous rule by searching for players willing to roleplay anything NSFW, adult, or 18+ off-site is not allowed.
    3. "Forced breeding" is considered to be mating/rape, and is not allowed.
  2. "Slave" and/or "slavery" roleplays are not allowed if it's being done as a roleplay's main theme. If it's going to be a brief situation within a roleplay, this is fine, as long as it avoids slavery containing child abuse or sexual abuse.
  3. Roleplaying as children is not allowed. We would like to avoid any situations that can lead to a roleplay describing the abuse of children in any way, shape, or form. It's fine to have children as supporting characters, but they cannot be playable. As Lioden is a 16+ site, we consider any person that is the age of 16 or above to not be a child anymore. Your characters can only be a minimum of 16 years of age.
    1. An exception to this rule is when players are roleplaying as animals: cubs, kits, etc. that would be family members, pride members, and so on, that age up as the roleplay progresses. The rules that apply with young animals would be no sexual abuse, and no "early heats".
  4. "Dog fighting" roleplays are not allowed, if in reference to the illegal kind that involves humans betting on the survivability of their dogs.
  5. Any illegal topics (ex. drug cartels, murder, rape, etc.) are not allowed if it is the main theme of a roleplay, similar to the functionality of our slavery rule.
  6. Describing murder within roleplays is fine, so long as you take caution and avoid being overly graphic or offensive. A good example of our limits regarding gore and murder would be our anti-poaching event for March. We highly recommend not going any further into details than the encounters you would see in explore during March.
  7. We allow a character's history to contain problematic topics (such as drug abuse or rape); however, we must underline that you cannot describe their past situations in detail, so that our content rules are not breached. A brief mention is fine.

2. Advertising Your Roleplays
  1. Any advertisements must be done through the Roleplay Channel in our chat box, or by bumping your topic in Chatter.
  2. Your advertisement must be in relation to Lioden threads. We do not allow off-site advertisements. If your roleplay is located off-site, such as a roleplaying forum or within a Discord server, then we request that you create a topic within Lioden's Roleplaying forum in order to advertise it. You can link to your thread within the Roleplay Channel, provided you include a disclaimer on your thread that they will be redirected off-site, and to continue at their own risk.
  3. Searching for or hosting off-site roleplays is allowed, so long as you create a thread with a clear, visible disclaimer that the roleplay is being conducted off-site. Please keep in mind that you cannot directly link to an off-site roleplay within the Roleplay Channel; you must create a thread and advertise it through there.
  4. When advertising your roleplays, "mature themes" and "struggles" are allowed, but must be kept safe for a 16+ audience, meaning there must be no illegal or sexual themes, and any explicit scenes be forced into a "fade-to-black" scene.

3. Characters and Art
  1. If you did not receive permission from the artist to use their art as your roleplay character, don't use it.
  2. If you did not receive permission from the character owner to use their character as your roleplay character, don't use it.
  3. Photos are allowed, but must be credited and linked to their original owner's source.
  4. Any attempts to circumvent the official Character Sheets feature (by hosting your own character sheets thread in the Out Of Character subforum, hosting your character sheet off-site, deleting your Character Sheets thread, etc.) are not allowed. Anyone who is found doing this will have their thread locked and posted on by a moderator, or privately messaged by a moderator informing them to use the official Character Sheets feature, so that we may properly track players who are using photos for their characters.
  5. Any posts made in a Character Sheets thread that do not contain a character sheet are considered to be spam, and will be deleted and handled accordingly by staff. If you want to let a player know that their character is accepted in your roleplay, please PM them.
  6. In regards to "placeholders" or "work-in-progress" character sheets, you have one week after creating the post to edit the character sheet with a proper form. If your post is still empty or looks like it is in progress after a week, you will be approached by a moderator to see if you will be updating the post. If a few days pass since you were contacted by staff, and your post is still empty or a work-in-progress, your post will be deleted.

Our rules may be changed or added to at any time, so please remember to check back frequently, and have fun!

For All Roleplay Character Images

You must link to the original source of an image - this would be the place that the image was originally posted on by its creator/photographer.

You CAN:
* Use free-to-use lineart, as long as the artist allows use of them.
* Use doll creators, as long as the artist allows use of them.
* Use art that you have created with your own hands.
* Use art that you have commissioned specifically for yourself.
* Use a gif from a movie if you link back to the movie's IMDb page.

You CANNOT:
* Source to an image "collection" website, such as Pinterest. Unless the original photographer has posted it there specifically, this is not the original source of the photo; it has been reposted.
* Save the image and re-upload it yourself to Imgur, Tinypic, or similar websites.
* Source an image where its copyright clearly states "All Rights Reserved".
* Post "all rights belong to the author/creator/owner, not me", or any variation of this. This is not a sufficient way to source an image.
* Use art that does not belong to you, unless the copyrights allow it, and are clearly visible to our site moderators where the art is sourced.

If you're unsure of how copyrights work, please use our Official Roleplay Image Copyright Guide for help on finding images you're allowed to use!

Hello! Sorry to ask, but I just wanted to clarify something on the "dog-fighting" rule. When you say "dog-fighting", does it only apply to humans fighting dogs, or would such things like a dog pack roleplay where everyone is playing a dog/wolf and a fight breaks out in the Pack be banned too? Sorry, but I just know that a lot of things happen in Pack roleplays and if I create one I wouldn't want to be violating the rules. Sorry to bother! <3

Xy: Dog fighting as in illegal activity of sporting two dogs against one another by humans. We only mean the illegal version, it's fine if you roleplay a dog pack

Question: "If you did not receive permission from the character owner to use their character as your roleplay character, don't use it." How does this translate to fandom RPs, I.e a Supernatural role-playing with people playing Sam and Dean.

Xy: very simple, public images are very easy to source if copyright allows it

And on the whole linking an original source thing, does that count when posting any image on Lioden? And what if it's a gif/ picture for your pfp thingy?

Xy - if it's an image created on Lioden itself, you do not have to source it, as you are posting within the source itself. Everyone knows the source. Unless you mean another image that is not copyrighted by Lioden - in this case follow the guidelines

regarding the 'don't use the character/character art without the owner's permission' i believe they are talking about people's PERSONAL characters, such a fursonas and such. Like going on google, deviantart, tumblr, ect. looking up like wolf artwork and seeing a cute character and using it without asking the owner who drew it. If i saw someone roleplaying my fursona without permission i'd be pretty mad, wouldn't you?

Though I'm pretty sure characters from shows and movies like supernatural(aaa i'm a fan of this show too)should be fine!
If someone drew your character in most cases it would be ok as long as you credit or ask the artist if they don't mind you using it on lioden for your roleplay, ect.

regarding the "you can't roleplay as children" rule... does... does that mean we're not allowed to rp child fandom characters anymore?? like what if someone wants to rp young Edward/Alphonse Elric or Frisk or literally any other fandom child character?? What if someone has a child OC??

Yeah i kind of dont get the child thing? Why cant the rule be not to roleplay abuse rather than not rp as a child? I feel like it would fall under the no murder rule. It takes away from an rp when every character is 16+.... and that brings up another question, when it is said "child" does that mean anyone under 18/17? Or does it just mean anything from about 1-14 or so? And who the heck roleplays "supporting characters"? Its an rp not a novel....
idk the no rping children rule just seems silly :/.....

Katze: The "child" role pertains to anyone 15 or under. Users are still allowed to roleplay as 16+ characters.

Does the child role count towards animals? Like kits or pups in rp?

Question.

If we are not allowed to RP the children, can they be NPC's? Or is that a no-no too?

Xylax - they can

2 Questions, although one is more important.
I fully understand the reasoning behind your children rule, but why not just make that a rule? As in, why not just say that there should be NO abuse of children in RP's? Second and much more important question, does this apply to animal roleplays? Because I know for a fact kits and pups are very important characters in many Rp's.

Say we are roleplaying a warrior cat or dog pack; will it be ok if we roleplay puppies or kittens?

I understand that the, "do not RP children," rule is meant to stop situations in which child abuse could arise. But, I'm confused on what this means in regards to animal roleplays. For instance: What is a 'child' in cat and dog terms? Does that mean that we have to have all our animal characters be above the age of kittenhood and puppyhood? If so then Warrior Cat roleplays are done for! Seeing as cats tend to reach their full-grown size at 12 months of age, would that officially make them an 'adult' after that? Even so, there would be no way to have kits or apprentices in Warrior Cat Roleplays, and without kits, we don't have a need for queens?? That's basically half of the ranks in cat roleplays gone. Plus, Warrior Cat roleplays thrive off of the influx of new characters brought by kittens as it helps the Clan grow with the plot. My question stands for dog/ wolf pack roleplays as well (because dogs can be full-grown anytime after a year, but wolves take about two years!). Thank you for reading, and I do hope someone can help me clarify these concerns.

I have updated the rules about animal cubs and what age we consider "child" within RP rules.

Question: Do all of these rules apply only to the roleplaying forums or for PM roleplays as well? Thank you!

I still dont see the reason for the no child rule though? Like why cant it just be no child abuse? It makes more sense to me to ban the act rather than the character itself.... its like banning animals because someone might rp animal abuse. Like dogs arent banned because dog fights why are kids banned bc of child abuse?

EDIT: tfw you dotn get a response

agree 100% with grey-ace. Like... why ban child characters entirely just because certain scenarios could happen??? why not just ban the abuse etc?? banning child characters entirely is literally the most ridiculous rule for anything I have ever heard.
