UPRISING
A Literate-Advanced Lion Pride Roleplay

SOURCE:http://www.dirgemag.com/mystical-jewelers-pacific-northwest/

A clap of thunder crashed overhead, filling the pridelands with momentary light. The face of a kind king split into an enraged snarl, blood dripping from his yellowed fangs and splattering onto the blades of trampled grass below. His pale gray eyes glittered with rage while dark fluid seeps from the long wounds across his cheek. Pacing opposite of the sovereign, a young male curled his gargantuan frame around the center of the bloodstained circle, a low rumbling rising from his throat. His muzzle curled into wicked smile as he gnashed his lengthy fangs and swiped menacingly with his powerful paws. Claw marks littered his pelt, though were numbered far fewer than those on his opponent's.

The young prince lunged forward again, his lengthy stride carrying him across the battlefield, and lifted a blood-soaked paw — claws extended as far as they could go — and struck the old king under the jaw, forcing his skull upwards. Rainwater flew from the king's mane as his head arced upward, carrying the front half of his body a short ways off of the ground with it. The tip of a fang bounced onto the grass, lost between the tall blades. He staggered backwards, blood flowing from his mouth and chin. The primal male backed up, snarling, and met the king as he reared up, hugging the older male's neck with his muscular forelegs. The smaller, wizened male was sent to the ground by his soon-to-be successor, who towered above the battered male before sinking his lengthened fangs into his father's thin mane and ancient neck.

Three years after killing his father Ramses, Amenhotep now towers above his subjects. He is a hard and unfair king, demanding undying loyalty to his reign and punishing all those who rise against him. As with most malevolent rulers, the royal's name carries weight among the pridelands and it would come to no surprise that there are those who wish him dead. For this reason, the king has employed his eldest and strongest sons as his loyal guards. But in the shadows of Amenhotep's monarchy, a silent uprising has begun, the head of this revolution one of his very own guards. Will you join this revolution, or will you side with your ruler?

Kifo

Female||Citizen||2 Years & 7 Months||Camp||Mentions: [D] Mnyama, Subira

Kifo looked at the sudden movement of Subira. "What? Are you going to tell the king?" She said in a rather innocent tone. She liked this lioness; she was the daughter of the king, but she wasn't so stuck up her ass like the other royal family members, and she seemed like a worthy friend. Or a mentor. Her eyes resembled Kifo's mother. They were like a clean waterhole. "You don't seem like the type to tell on another, though. But looks can be rather deceiving," Kifo took a sharp breath. "Who's turn is it to watch the elders?" Kifo despised watching elders. All old and whiny. She wouldn't be that way when she was an elder, if she lived that long. After all, many lions who thought that the king's leadership was bad would probably suffer a painful, torturous death. It would probably begin with public humiliation, or, if the king was feeling generous, just throw a black mamba at you, or maybe an rabid badger.

Mkali
Female | 9 Years | Citizen
Location:
Camp
Mentions: Juniors, Krishna, Red Eye

Mkali shook her head as the juniors preemptively pounced Krishna. Their form was terrible, their attempts uncoordinated. It was like watching a cub trying to eat a hedgehog. But they each held a glint of promise. Adsora targeted the paws of her prey, a good plan, if not greatly executed. Oshin was next, jumping onto the primal's back from a high ledge. A good idea, but he hadn't considered his small size. Both were quickly detached by Krishna who bounded into the grass. He had the right idea, he knew what he was doing. The juniors were barely up to his knees and lacked his strength. While he could power through the long grass, they would be slowed by it. They didn't seem to care though. The adolescents ran after Krishna, like a cheetah hunting a gazelle. They lacked the form and unity that made lions lions.

With her years of training, Mkali was able to keep up with the group with a simple jog. She watched the whole and made her turns based on where they'd go so she rarely had to play catch up. If this had been prey, she would've been able to keep this up for hours more. This wasn't true for Nyul apparently. The adolescent pushed herself forward until close enough to pounce, landing on the primal's back. She bit in and kicked trying to stay on top. She was so focused on her attack she didn't notice the branch Krishna sent her way. As she fell to the ground, another lion sprung up. Not a junior, but an adult. Red Eye, if Mkali wasn't mistaken. The poor boy had nearly been trampled by Krishna but that was corrected as a herd of juniors were sent bumping into him. "Sorry, Red!" She called. "They're training!" She'd usually slow down, but she was certain the male would be ok. He was still in his prime, and a primal to boot. It'd take more than a few bumps to bring him down. This was proven as he joined in the chase. She laughed and picked up the pace to catch the action around the 'prey'.

Oshin finally caught on and called out that they should team up. It was much too late into the hunt for this. They should have been working together from the start. Soon they'd tire out, their lungs burning for oxygen, their muscles exhausted. They really were cubs. "You're all doing terribly," she said bluntly. It was true. They were awful hunters. Despite Oshin's request for team work, he sped forward to grab a paw. He hadn't noticed how far away the others were. Had Krishna been prey, a well-placed hoof would have sent Oshin to the elder's den or the grave. Mkali tried not to wince at the thought. Suddenly, Fajin leapt, seemingly appearing from nowhere. She didn't attempt to jump on him or maim him, instead using her significant weight to unbalance Krishna. So far it was the only attack Mkali had seen that was decent. A failed buck from Krishna meant her attack hit. He wobbled and landed awkwardly, but managed to kick off Oshin and scruff Fajin. Nyul appeared, leaping on top of Krishna and digging in. This would be the messiest 'kill' Mkali had ever seen. Krishna fell to his side, causing the girls to scramble away to avoid being crushed. Though he was down, he was still entirely able to hurt them. Bringing prey down was half the battle if it was uninjured.

Mkali approached the group and let out a growl before pulling the adolescents off. "You did terribly. All of you. The only grace I saw was Fajin. And you, Oshin, if Krishna was prey you'd be dead. Do you know what a zebra's kick does to a lion's skull? It flattens it. And Nyul! His leg weighs more than you, do you really think jumping on his back will do anything? If you want to use your mass, unbalance him. Don't just add to his weight." She shook her head. "I want you all to try again and take this seriously. Krishna will get up and hide somewhere. You'll all try to bring him down as a group. Follow my directions. Stop playing hero. You are a pride, not some lone leopard." She gave a nod to Krishna. "He's got thirty seconds to hide. I hope despite your inability to take in training that you at least know how to count," she scorned.

Mnyama || Citizen || 2 years || Camp || Mentions: Kifo, Subira(ID)

Mnyama was afraid. What if Subira decided to tell that she didn't like the king? The sideral lioness was small, she couldn't fight for long, nor survive alone in exile. She regretted saying that, and she hid her face behind her paws, throwing herself on the ground.

"I shouldn't have said that out loud!" She cried. "He will kill me! And I never got to meet my savior!"

Mnyama sighed and stood up.

"I don't know who is taking care of the elders, maybe the girl that broke the rules earlier..." The sideral looked at the horizon. "She just caught a zebra, I don't know what's wrong with that... We always need food."

Her tail brushed on Kifo's face.

"I am going to the meerkat camp to try to catch one, it's nice when it comes to training speed." She poked Kifo with her paw. "Do you want to come with me?

Oshin|| Junior|| 1 year ||Questioning Male|| Camp || Mentions: Krishna,Fajin,Nyul

Oshin cringed as his face was kicked repeatedly. While at first his grip tightened,he released,his cheek starting to bleed a bit. Oshin didn't prepare for the sudden impact with the ground, The ochre leopon coughed as his face hit the ground,coughing up grass and dust. The world seemed to spin,his vision slightly blurred as he watched the other two juniors jump on Krishna. Oshin stood up on wobbly legs,eager to get back to the fight. He shot forward,and jumped onto the red Primals neck. Oshin finally managed to get a good grip on his scruff.

Subira
Female | Citizen | 4 years 9 months | Location: Camp | Mentions: Kifo (D), Mnyama (D)

The red lioness let out a sigh, her breath coming out in a mix of amusement and annoyance. Her dark red tail flicked as she watched the younger lionesses. "I am not going to tell the king. I have no reason to." She didn't bother asking about what Mnyama meant by 'savior', though her interest had certainly piqued from it. Nonetheless, Subira had little desire to make any enemies within the pride, so she remained quiet. The red lioness would rather wait for another opportunity to speak than do so on her own.

Krishna
Male | Citizen | 10 years | Location: Camp Outskirts/Outside Camp| Mentions: Juniors (D), Mkali (D)

Krishna heaved himself to his paws, shaking his pelt roughly to fling Oshin off of him. "You'd do well to listen to your teacher, young one," he growled as he spoke. Despite knowing well they were trying their hardest, it was not enough. He'd gone easy on them after all. He gave Mkali a brisk nod of approval as she spoke with her next training idea. It was a good start for the juniors to know how to hunt as one. The primal flicked his ear and took off further into the tall grass, his paws slapping the ground heavily with rhythmic timing. He spotted a good hiding spot with a thick bushel of large shrub trees. He crossed the river with sure steps, the water reaching his belly. When he was out, he headed to the cluster with cold green eyes, knowing the river would put a halt in his trail. Despite the lion's bulky size, he slipped inside the cluster smoothly, leaving not a shred of evidence behind him.

Kifo

Female||Citizen||2 Years & 7 Months||Camp||Mentions: [D] Mnyama, Subira

"Hmmm...I like you." She said in a low voice. "Subira, would you like to come along?" Kifo offered. Citizens often weren't needed for the day, and when they were, they had to fetch things, or just be decorations to make the pride look lively and caring for visitors. Kifo shook her icy mane. She needed to take her anger out on the little savannah rats. She disliked meerkats. They were vicious and fierce. She knew because when she was a junior, she had accidently disturbed a burrow. They attacked her, and she had to flee. She hated them from that day on.

Mnyama || Citizen || 2 years || Camp || Mentions: Kifo, Subira

Mnyama felt relief engulf her body. She feared the king most of all; that huge primal male with anger and hate coming from all his body. She wished to see him gone, but she wasn't brave enough to say that out loud.

"I am glad she won't tell..." She murmurs for herself right before Kifo spoke. "Oh... You like me?" Mnyama stared at the lioness in clear disbelief. "Well, I go there every day... You can always show up if you want." She turned to Subira. "Come with us! It's fun!"

Subira
Female | Citizen | 4 years 9 months | Location: Camp | Mentions: Kifo (D), Mnyama (D)

Subira looked at the two lionesses closely, disbelief and surprise clouding her usually clear blue eyes. She was rarely asked to join anyone, and that usually happened because of her father's orders. The red lioness had a small inkling that her father had been trying to get her close to one of the royal guards at the time, though it didn't work out in his favor. Subira thought she and the royal guard were on good terms, as good as possible at least. She blinks at Mnyama when she mentioned fun, her memories fading with the warm breeze that ruffled her dark fur. "Fun?" Subira echoed the word, recalling seeing the juniors play before. She'd never had fun, save once or twice. She glanced around the camp to see if her father was still around. When she noticed him- and the juniors- gone, she turned back to the two younger females. "I wouldn't mind coming along. I could do with the exercise," she replied politely.

Aris
Female || Huntress || 3 Years, 2 Months || Den/Camp
Mentions: Valor, Amenhotep, Huntresses, Ka'ri

Aris' eyes drifted to Zaynabi as the older lioness chastised Ka'ri, and then to Valor. They weren't wrong... Suddenly, her ears flickered back at the sound of heavy pawsteps. Her ears flattened, and she lowered her head; normally, the best thing for her was to avoid notice by her father. Thankfully, he seemed to be mainly interested in Valor.

The wildrose female lowered herself into a laying position, paws streching out in front of her. Her head turned to watch Ka'ri slink past, chastened, before glancing around at the other huntresses. Hopefully Amenhotep would go and they could get on the hunt quickly.

Adsora
Female || Junior || 1 Year, 1 Month || Camp
Mentions: The Juniors, Mkali, Krishna, Red-eye

Being thrown off her goal, Adsora landed in the dirt, sending some flying. She watched wide-eyed as Krishna took off, the other juniors following. She took off after, but ran into Red-eye on the way. Letting out a soft squeak, the cairngorm junior bounced back off of him into the grass. Shaking her head, she dashed around the older primal.

Only breaking into a trot, she got to Mkali and the others as the lioness was givig them a lecture. The felis junior frowned, ears flattening on her head; it wasn't her fault everyone was uncoordinated. Sulking a little, she hunched her shoulders and she waited for Krishna to leave, counting all the while.

Kifo

Female||Citizen||2 Years & 7 Months||Camp||Mentions: [D] Mnyama, Subira

"Okay, let's get out of this Hell hole for a few minutes." Kifo growled gruffly. She wasn't the most excited to go, and the fact that two others would be watching her if she messed up made it worse. She started to walk silently in a slow pace, her ears back and stub-of-a-tail up right. She kind of looked like an alert gazelle, but more furry and fierce. She turned her head back and forth, then smelled the warm scent of baby meer-kits and mother's milk. She followed the scent, jumping over a broken branch that was lied on the ground.

Oshin|| Junior|| 1 year ||Questioning Male|| Camp || Mentions: Krishna,Mkali,Juniors

Oshin's ears drooped at Mkali's criticism while Krishna pushed him off. He conceded,"Yeah,you're right.We should've tried teaming up and working together." Oshin's tail swished,mentally counting and he waited for Krishna to leave. Trying to jump him didn't work,and the only one who showed promise was Fajin. Oshin's claws scraped against the ground as he though of a plan. Oshin's ears perked up. His plan wasn't foolproof,but it could work! Oshin let out a soft roar to get the rest of the junior's attention. "Come over here,you guys,I got a plan!"

Jin

Fajin |•| Female |•| Junior |•| 1 year, 10 months |•| Camp Outskirts/Out of Camp
Mentions: Juniors, Mkali, Krishna

Body colliding with the Large primal, she was relieved as he started to a stumble slightly, hoping one of the other 2 that had fallen behind would take the chance. Luckily, young Nyul had, giving the last ditch effort to knock him over. The hulk of the male started to fall, however in the direction of Fajin and Nyul. Releasing her desperate grasp on him, she managed to jump back from where he fell. He'd nearly landed on her tail. Pulling it near her, a bit conscious of it now, Fajin backed off from the Primal now splayed in the dirt. Mkali's frustration with the group drawing her full attention now.

Her ears drooped at the sharp tone, the familiar Raw Sienna of Mkali's eyes cut right through the exhausted group of juniors. Even what was probably praise on Fajin sounded like a backhanded compliment. Her gaze lowered, not willing to look her square in the face. She did notice Adsora finally rejoining the group, not sure where all she'd gotten off to during the hunt. Once Mkali had stated the next exorcise, she finally lifted her eyes to meet the others in the group, seeing how each reacted to the scolding. Not well she thought, the frustration and disappointment plastered to each of their maws.

Krishna it seemed had slunk off, leaving the juniors to count and strategize. Or at least as much as a group of over sized cubs COULD strategize. A heavy huff escaped her chest, her heart finally settled back down. Rolling her shoulders a bit, loosing back up, she reluctantly turned her attention to Oshin. "If it involves you grabbing his leg like that again, you can forget it Oshin." She growled softly, a bit frustrated with the extended lesson, not really meaning to take it out on the poor hybrid. He seemed rather bruised and batter from getting kicked about by Krishna.

Mnyama followed Kifo when she jumped over the branch, excited to see watch se had found. When she noticed the scent of babies, her smile faded. The lioness didn't like to kill babies, the ancestors would never approve such things. She looked at Subira and then at Kifo again.

"Kifo... I don't think we should kill the babies!" She said with certain nervousness. "You see... We must be careful not to mess up with their population!" Mnyama looked at Subira, searching for support.

"There's plenty more meerkats...I'm sure they won't mind if we pluck a few from the litter." She assured, rather firmly. Then Kifo turned her head back to look at Mnyama. Kifo sniffed around some more, recognizing the scent once again. "Why do you care so much about meerkats? They never saved you from dying, or did they? Can you talk to them?" She said, amused.

Mkali
Female | 9 Years | Citizen
Location:
Camp
Mentions: Juniors, Krishna

Mkali watched as Krishna once again disappeared into the brush. The top of his head bobbed above the grass for a moment and then he was gone. She knew the area well. He was likely heading for the river. It was smart, the water would wash off his tracks if only for a short while. It'd be a challenge for the juniors. His heavy pawprints and distinct smell would be easy enough to follow. It'd give her students a lesson in tracking, something they severely needed. They had to learn that lions, despite their substantial strength, were stealth predators. They couldn't run down a zebra any more than they could run to the sun. They had to cheat. Sneaking up and getting within a few bounds of their prey was the only way to ensure a good chance at dinner.

Her ears perked at Oshin's suggestion for them to gather round. He seemed to desperately want to be leader of the group, despite being poorly equipped for the role. He was the smallest, youngest, and least experienced of the juniors. Yet, Mkali was still interested in his plan. At the very least she could suggest alternates while still letting them come up with the plan itself. She knew creativity at this age should be nurtured and balanced with the hard facts of life. If every lion did things the same way, they wouldn't develop new hunting techniques. But if they spent their time planning new ways to hunt without considering what has worked, the whole pride would starve. It was a careful scale that had been perfected by generations of teachers.
