Technical Terminology
Phenotype - The letter representation of genetics; ex. Mm, cscs, TTa
Genotype - The physical representation of genetics; ex. Red, white spotting, agouti
Dominant - A gene that needs only one copy to be expressed
Recessive - A gene that needs two copies to be expressed
Sex-linked - A gene whose expression is linked to biological sex
Locus - A specific segment of DNA where different genes may be expressed
Codominance - Both genes are expressed mixed together; ex. rex + white = pink
Incomplete Dominance - Both genes are expressed "half and half"; ex. red + white = red and white

Slang Terms
Colorpoint - A breeding term for the Siamese pattern;
*Lynxpoint, Sealpoint, Firepoint, etc. are similar terms.

☾Basic Genetics☽

White Masking
"White masking" is quite simple. It is a dominant gene, and if present, the cat will be white. It is called white masking because it masks any other color- or pattern-related gene the cat may have.
So, a cat may genetically be a gray lynxpoint, but if it has the white masking gene, it will simply be white.

Piebaldism
Piebaldism, AKA white spotting, is exactly as it sounds. While it is a dominant gene, the expression is somewhat influenced by the number of copies. Generally speaking, a cat with only one white spotting gene will be less than 50% white and have normal eye color. A cat with two copies should be over 50% white and has the potential to have blue eyes. If a cat has the recessive form with no white spotting, there should be no white on it's body (unless it is has white masking).

Hair Length
There are three basic hair lengths: long, medium, and short. Short is dominant, long is beneath that,
and medium is recessive to both. There are other, rarer hair length like rexes, but I'm not well versed on them, yet.

☾Oddities☽

Passing Oddities
So far, the only passing oddities are Albinism, Ojos Azules, and Polydactyly.
Albinism - There are two forms of albinism, blue-eyed and pink-eyed. Both are on the C locus. Blue-eyed is dominant to pink-eyed, although both are recessive to every other gene on their locus.
Ojos Azules - This gene is dominant and causes deep blue eyes, regardless of coat color. However, homozygous forms cause fatal deformities. Use caution when breeding your Ojos Azules!
Polydactyly - Polydactyl cats, like humans, are born with extra toes! This is also a dominant gene. Win win!

Nonpassing Oddities
So far, there is only one non-passing oddity: Klinefelter Syndrome.
Klinefelter Syndrome - Cats with this condition have 3 sex chromosomes instead of two, specifically XXY. They are considered male but often display feminine characteristics. To be bred,
the breeder must use an artificial womb.

Other Oddities
Other oddities include scars and other characteristics that occur naturally throughout life. These are not passable and can be added to custom cats (if they are not too severe).
