Pink Lions

an unusual and little-understood genetic mutation caused by a recessive gene similar to that which affects albino animals. This mutation results in one of two things happening or even a combination of the two; a reduce or even absence of the normal pigment and/or the excessive production of other pigments, in this case red which results in pink morphs.

Just imagine a pink lion :O wouldn't that be friggen cool..? None of these pictures are photo shopped or edited
pink
I think this would be an amazing mutation to have in my opinion. They are extremely rare and would effect thier survival chances in the wild. Thy'd stick out far to much over the albino.

In lions it would actually look like this. Notice the flesh around the mouth. It's pink right..? In real lions it looks black. They do have a slightly pink hue in their fur that makes them a more strawberry blonde. An almost cinnabar but less intense.

strawberry
This is what i believe is what it would look like in my opinion

Ooh this is lovely!

There's this article for reference: https://africageographic.com/blog/a-strawberry-blonde-lion/

Like it says, an erythristic lion would have more of a strawberry blonde/pinkish ginger colouring than the examples above, which are more flesh tone or flamingo pink. xo

Idk man, it looks too much like a base. If it kinda went how Achromia looks, with no black outlines. But we already have pink bases, so a pink lion isn't too uncommon.

Hmm, i think the current mock up you have(in the second post, not the original florescent one) is still a bit pink for lions? Maybe a slightly creamier one, with more pink gums and nose? The washed out cinnabar look doesn't quite seem right to the pictures of "Strawberry" felines I've seen.

It's not much of a difference, and with a normal lion pose, you can't really see the gums.
And mutations/poses don't work with each other (except Pie/Patch).
Like I said, if it was more like Achromia, where it's just the pure color, then it could work.
But it works just as well as a base, it's a pretty color.

No prob ^^
If it was a base, I would love for a pink king pfft. I'm not the biggest fan of pink, but that pink for the second picture is just so pretty to me.

Here's some of the best examples I could find, it should be more of a golden than a pink ^.^ I understand the struggle with finding the right hue though!

I do also agree that it should be more solid though, with maybe just a few shades lighter of an underside, and ideally on a finished official version, lines that go with it similar to the albinism mutation. The "it looks like a base" idea kinda irks me though, as we have both an albinism mutation and an albino base and everybody's rather happy with that, and the same with onyx/obsidian/etc bases and melanistic mutation.

That's true. Achromia and Albino has a difference in their coloration, but Melanism and Onyx/Obsidian looks exactly the same to me, which has always bothered me ^^|||
And how White is a base color, but in reality it's a mutation.
Lioden is hella weird with bases.
(Although, with the Golden Tabby Tiger picture, it says they were caused to be that color by inbreeding/captive breeding. Just thought that was interesting ^^)

Well, yes and no on the strawberry/golden tabby tigers. Similar to white tigers they're mainly found in captivity from inbreeding, but are capable of being produced in the wild. Generally all fur mutations created in captivity via inbreeding are possible in the wild as well, just far less likely to occur and tend to not survive. I haven't recently read up on felines lately though, been mainly absorbed in canines hehe
