It's not really more realistic, though. The shading colour depends on the lighting you're in. In fact its more realistic to have a yellowish to purple tinting. Which is actually what I did in my preview above.
The grey shading layers are likely more to make it simpler to add in new colours, markings, etc without redoing them/having unique ones for each base.

Which is why I suggest a little optional decor-like thing, so if people want to tint their lions more yellow, they can.

ahh, well if you right click on the image of the lion and click inspect (for chrome or whatever the term is depending on which browser you use) you'll see all the image files so you can download those and edit them!

alternatively you can use these urls and change the name of the base to see different ones :)

yeah, exactly. I'm only suggesting this as a cheapo/easy to obtain decor or something so that it isn't breedable, but still obtainable for those that'd want it.

I do like the art, the grey bothers me thanks to how dull it looks. It could also make the brighter colours look a little less weird, too? It doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to do?

It's a nice idea but would be next to impossible. Lions can have up to 20 markings and can be very very complex. That specific shading color is also a staple for most of the decor and art to stay in the same range of tones and colors.

It doesn't have to change with the markings, having a yellowish/purplish/etc on its own is a massive difference. Personally, I don't really care that much about decor, either. I like the little pets and whatnot, but I don't need to play lion dress up ^^;

Oh, and I would like to add onto the customization comment, which I feel like its a non-issue, because:

A lot of decor hides the lion under it, anyway.
A lot of the decor actually has coloured shading.
Custom decor is made in a different style from the site. A lot of their shading doesn't match, regardless.
Primal/Leopon lions are able to be kinged and play dress up even though most of the decor doesn't fit them right.
Achromia mutation has coloured lions and shadng, they are much bigger change than what I am proposing. People dress them up, too.

I’d like to maybe see a slight difference in the shading, but the colors here and the work that would go into it is a lot. It makes the lion look totally different, so much brighter, and thus would make people’s existing lions look vastly different than they do now, and I think that’s a little unfair to make such a change to them after people work so hard to get their lions to look nice. This would look nice on certain lions, but having it be one particular shading color would look strange on lots of lions. It looks cool on the boy in the example, but that shading would stand out a bit on red and pink bases, for example. The shading of plenty decor would look all weird against the brighter shading on the lions, too.
