I'd like to see cubs inherit genetics from more than one generation(grandparents/great-grandparents/great-great/etc.) rather than just the parents. Ex. Father's not a primal, but his grandfather was, so the cub has a higher than average chance of having the mutation. The further back it goes the lower the chance. The more it pops up the higher the chance(to a max percent under 100). Or the cub inherits a base/eye color/mane/etc from an ancestor 2/3/4 generations back. |

Rather than just "Nope, don't want it" I'd like to know people's reasoning for not wanting an actual gene pool to inherit from. I mean at this time the heritage tree is pointless, why even have it? Once your cubs are born their parents/grandparents/etc. don't matter, so why even be able to see them? They'll pass nothing on to future cubs anyway so why take up space with a link to the family tree? ![]() |

This is definitely cool, but I feel like it would get way to complicated. I'll support none the less but I'm not sure how realistic it is ![]() |

Sorry, but no support. First of all, I’ll just say that I actually do really like complex genetics - in the right game. Some breeding sims are made a lot more enjoyable by having in-depth, realistic genetics. But I don’t think Lioden is one of them. As I understand it LD has never been intended as just a breeding sim, and anytime more complex genetics have been suggested it’s been pretty unpopular - even the current very simplified system of base colours and such is more complicated than a lot of people understand or want to have to learn. Official and unofficial polls/suggestions etc in the past have all ended up pointing strongly towards most players wanting simple rather than complicated genetics systems here. So adding to it risks putting off a lot of the more casual players or those not used to or interested in complex genetics, imo. Especially this far into the game's existence. Honestly the way a lot of people play (myself included, for the most part) heritages really don’t matter at all, and I like that simplicity. A lot of the time I never even look at my lions' heritages at all tbh, and I know I’m far from the only one. The other thing is that breeding for certain things - whether it be rare bases, specific markings, stats, etc - is already a numbers game. Producing the super special bases like celestial/sidereal/whatever is hard, because they have such a low drop rate. Further complicating that could make such things even harder to breed. Anyway, sorry for the essay! I just thought it was worth explaining why I and potentially others aren’t so keen on this :) ![]() Edited on 17/02/18 @ 16:47:33 by Myriad (#76) |

I appreciate the essay actually XD I'd rather have too much information than not enough ;) I, myself prefer the in depth genetics, and thought that's what I was getting with this game until just recently. I probably wouldn't have bothered with it if I'd realized in the beginning that the only genetics involved came directly from the parents, it's just not enough to keep me interested long term. I like a challenge and this way of doing things doesn't offer much of one. ![]() |

In that case I’m glad to provide some insight at least xD I would say - though this is purely my opinion - the challenge with LD is less thinking/planning and more patience/determination, in terms of breeding outcomes. You don’t need to plan ahead a huge amount or have a complicated strategy to breed what you want necessarily, like with some sims. It’s more luck and having the patience to keep trying. Whether you like that or not really depends on what you want out of games. There are ways to add more of a challenge though, if that’s what you want - Hard Mode clan might be worth looking into for example :) ![]() |

I'm definitely a planner ;) lol and with every other game I've ever played that involved breeding it's been the challenge of trying to pull out those recessive genes that kept me engrossed. I've always been fascinated by the complexity of true genetics XD I'll look into the hard mode clan though, it might help me stay involved longer :) ![]() |
