First of all sorry if this was already suggested. I looked through the forums and I couldn't find it, but I might have overlooked it :o

So currently we don't have many dog decors here on Lioden: The Boerboel Puppy, Starving Puppy and Dead Ridgeback, as well as some more exotic breeds in the Gorilla Enclave. Well, I'd love to see some more variety in doggo friends for our lions! Some that aren't dead/dying would be great, lmao!
There are a lot of African dog breeds that I think could make for good decorations!
So here's a few examples:
Toggle spoilers for images :))

Basenji

Those small dogs are a hunting breed, originating from central Africa.

Boerboel

This guy, also known as the South African Mastiff originates from... yep! You guessed it - South Africa. They are one of the most powerful dog breeds.

Rhodesian Ridgeback
There's actually a suggestion here for a Rhodesian Puppy Decor, but I think an adult doggo would be great as well!

They originate from South Africa as well. They were bred for hunting many animals, including lions!

Azawakh

They are a sighthound livestock guardian breed from West Africa.

Sloughi suggested by: #5378

They're a North African sighthound breed treasured for its hunting skills, speed, agility, and endurance over long distances.

Africanis suggested by: #166030

The Africanis is a landrace of Southern African dogs. It is also an umbrella name for all the aboriginal dogs in Southern Africa.

Aidi suggested by: #166030

Aidi is a North African dog breed used as a livestock guardian, protecting herds of sheep and goats. In its native Morocco, it is often paired in hunting with the Sloughi, which chases down prey that the Aidi has located by scent. (Maybe it would be cute to get a decor of these two together, as they're a hunting duo!)

Armant suggested by: #166030

The Armant originated in Egypt. They were first used as guard dogs but farmers quickly saw their value as a herding dog as well.
The breed has remained in use in Egypt and the dogs are still used as guard dogs and for herding.

These are some of the more specific dog breeds, but there are a lot of semi-feral dogs, living in villages in Africa, which don't have a specified breed. (They are also known as pariah dogs, and if I understand correctly they fall under the Africanis umbrella term as well).Though these dogs are used as a warning system against lions, who's to say one wouldn't want to join a pride :P. Here's a couple of pictures of village dogs:

Vincentia (#148793) - "Why not some mixed breeds too? Also, considering Lioden takes place in Africa, there's probably much less of a push for the dogs to meet breed standards. Like, for example, a basenji could have one flopping ear."

-----------

I know that there are explore encounters of a Boerboel Pack, as well as a Rhodesian Ridgeback Pack. Perhaps a decor could be a rare reward from a battle, but I think a much better way to include it would be during the March event! :)

Thank you for reading, and let me know what you think!

Most of the information I got from Wikipedia, but some of the breeds were hard to find, as they're pretty rare. If you think something's wrong feel free to correct me!

An adult Boerboel would be neat, I know we have the puppy decor.

There is also the Sloughi, it's a pretty interesting dog breed. It's similar to a greyhound but has floppy ears instead of the rosebud shaped ones. It's also similar to the one that you posted.

<3 pariah dogs, those dogs who just sorta lurk at the fringes, being a warning/vermin deterrent. Probably our oldest dog "breeds".

I would love one to hang out with all my hunters.

The Pharaoh Hound is from Malta, which is in Europe. They are descended from the Tesem, which is the extinct dog breed from Egypt.

@Rappadapa, I was on the fence about this one, if I'm honest. I wanted to add dogs which are more guarding or herding category, cause I figured it'd be more realistic. Basically, even though it's still unlikely, you might find them in the same place as lions, if that makes sense? Sorry, English isn't my first language but I hope you understand!

@Aredy1974, same thing with the abyssynian sand terrier, I know it's more of an indoor breed so unlikely to be found in the same environment as lions. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I just couldnt find any information about it being used as a working dog. The Chinese crested dog is, well, Chinese :P A good gorilla enclave suggestion I think! I actually looked this one up, and it appears , despite its name, it does actually originate from Africa! I won't add it, cause of the above reason (it's a lap dog/companion dog), but I wanted to clarify that!
The rest I like a lot, though! I will add them later.

Also thank you guys for all the supports!

@Rappadapa Call me an animal rights activist bitch, but physical breed standards are trash, and have literally no purpose besides feeding breeders ego in the modern day uwu.

Why not some mixed breeds too? Also, considering Lioden takes place in Africa, there's probably much less of a push for the dogs to meet breed standards. Like, for example, a basenji could have one flopping ear.

Africanis r beautiful btw

@Vincentia, I like that idea! Could I add your suggestion to the post? :)
And I agree, I would at least assume that dogs in Africa are not bred exactly up to set standards. The Aidi, for example, was not treated as well in tribes as a Sloughi, and in result, they were left to fend for themselves quite often. This would definitely result in them mixing with other, rural dogs, and therefore losing some of the pure-breed characteristics.
One of many standards for that breed is that they can't have a dudley nose. Well I'm willing to bet, that was not something that hunters concerned themselves with, when they picked out which dog they would take for a hunt :)
