**The edit: Perhaps they could make some new markings instead that would have a breeding factor instead of rewriting the game**

Okay so recently this information was released from the Wolvden Facebook Page:

"Marking Genetics

Markings follow a somewhat similar pattern and setup to bases, and are categorised into color groups, marking shapes, and rarity tiers. Tier 0 contain all wild or common markings that are available in both wild wolves and starter wolves, whilst tier 1 contains custom only markings. All higher tiers relate to event only, mutation exclusive, combo, etc.

Markings that are the same and bred in the same slot have a 75% chance of passing directly onto the puppy.

Markings bred in the same slot that are different first run through a color combo checker - if both parents have compatible color groups that can produce a combo, this will roll a chance to get the combo color marking for the puppy. Whether it has a combo or not, the chance is 50/50 for which marking the puppy will inherit from the parents, with no parent weighting or bias either way.

If only one parent has a marking in that slot, the puppy has a simple 50% chance of whether or not it inherits it.

Once a marking is chosen, if the marking is tier 1 or 0, there is a very small chance that marking could mutate into a different shape within its tier. The color group, shape and tier will stay the same, but a new marking will be chosen within those parameters. A normal marking may turn into a 'Heavy' version of that marking, as one example, to give more variation within litters. These only have a chance of happening with certain markings.

Examples are as follows:

* Black Agouti x Red Agouti could produce Auburn Agouti from the color combos.

* Black Cape could mutate into Black Cape Ticking.

And finally! Stay tuned for a mutation GENETICS teaser next week!"

The only thing I have to say is can we please get this for lioden? Maybe some new markings to come out with this breeding factor. Anyone else agree? If you don't agree it would be very helpful to add a comment why just incase this gets enough yes votes!

*ps!!! This will only apply to a select few NEW markings- not completely change the marking system or completely change newer markings!*

(Ps; if you would like to see this please go to the wolvden facebook page!)

Although I adore the planned genetic mechanics for Wolvden, I worry that implementing this for Lioden - a game that has a genetics system that has remained fairly consistent since the beginning - would interfere with an awful lot of existing projects.

Unless some kind of work-around for this issue can be found, I'm afraid the idea doesn't quite sit right with me, personally. ^^

True, thank you for your input! If possible to work around existing projects, it would be pretty awesome. I myself do have some projects floating around and it could possibly make rng even more difficult.

Although the genetics are awesome for Wolvden I dont support this.

Not only would it be an extreme amount of work for staff to recode lioden, an established site with an ungodly amount of markings, the community would then suffer as it would more than likely interfere with projects that each individual has going on. It easier for them to implement this in wolvden as they're building it from the ground up, unlike lioden.

The only work-around that I can think of from the top of my head is an item that enables one of/all of Wolvden's breeding mechanics, but that may be pushing it a tad; depending on how it is implemented, I imagine that it would either never be used or damaging to the economy.

Oh yeah. Perhaps they could make this applicable to some new breeding markings, instead of the whole entire game. If some who disagreed on it think that would be good, ill go ahead and edit the thread

@theclasscalico maybe that might be a little too much, i think it would be easier to just have new markings added that have a breeding factor

Even then I think it toes the line a little bit and would be more of a hassle than improve or add upon the game. It's important between Wolvden and Lioden for there to be differences other than their species. Some people might find breeding and projects concerning markings easier on Lioden but more difficult on Wolvden due to the added step of genetics, so if they don't like the more heavily genetics based system on Wolvden they can still play Lioden as they always have without having to worry about it.

Some markings are hard enough to breed as is with hidden tricks to breed them successfully. Having seperate markings that work on an entirely different passing system could be extremely confusing and frustrating to new and/or returning players. Unless they change the whole system to match that of Wolvden (and I sincerely hope they dont) then all markings implemented in the future ought to remain the same as the others.

I didn't intend to make the edit seem like all future markings would be that way, only a select few. I do respect your opinion though and thank you very much for your time and input.
