This is really well done! This is just some notes for the design from a biology student who's a paleontology nerd. Sorry if it's a little long! (The art is lovely btw. I just figured is put this since you said you didn't know much about paleoart recreation for your version) Paleobiology is speculative mostly but you did nicely on the muscle bulk of the neck and jaw. I think the only thing that seems off is it's chin wouldn't protrude so much with it's mouth fully closed. The angle of it's chin to back part of the jaw is almost horizontal to the upper part of the skull in it's skeletal reconstruction. The skull replica pictures make the chin look far more pronounced than the actual fossil and musuem skeletal model does. It would have a very rectangular head vs the chin sticking out so much. Basically if the lower jaw was rotated clockwise slightly it would sit more naturally. Where the chin is tucked more and the back end of the jaw sits a little lower. Just dropping the back end of the jaw down a little would likely do the trick as well. Would give it a sturdier look so the jawbone and teeth are less vulnerable. I really hope that made sense. And I mean no offense by it you did a really good job. Just feedback. (If you didn't want feedback like this then just tell me and I'll take it down) (Side note. Try looking up skeletal and muscular anatomy references for whatever big cat you are wanting. You can find the same model displayed with each layer to give an idea of where bone ends and muscle starts. Just so you don't have to put yourself through trying to find more x-rays! ) 0 players like this post! Like? |

@ Raina (Primal) First of all, thank you! I also really appreciate that you give me some feedback on the anatomy, I always try to get better at that! :D I gotta say, I edited and traced the picture of the replica, so that the mouth is closed. I wasn't sure if the front teeth would touch each other when the mouth is fully closed, that was probably my mistake. I edited the drawing of the head, maybe you can give me some input if this is more accurate? I closed the jaw a little bit more, made the chin not as prominent as it was before and I dropped the back of the jaw a little bit lower. 1 player likes this post! Like? Yeah that looks great! Still has the distinct head shape but is more streamline with the neck and body so it wouldn't be a vulnerability. I'm glad I could be helpful. 0 players like this post! Like? |
