So I know that Lioden is a very, and I do mean VERY, LGBTQ+ positive community, but I feel like one big step we haven't taken is to be able to legitimately change our lions or lionesses pronouns. For instance, I have a series of lions going where most of the characters I'm basing them off of are male, but since I don't have enough male slots of GB to get more male slots, not to mention the limited number of male slots, I have to use females for most of the characters. It really annoyed me today when Alpha Goat Gowther came back from hunting with a scar, and it called Gowther a female because the character that the lion is based on is a male. I know it sounds a bit nitpicky, but when 5 out of seven of the group are supposed to be males, it gets a bit irritating. And for the players that stud out lab frogged kings, it could help out with making their lion more in character. It wouldn't need a whole new area on the page all by itself. My idea is that the area you pick the pronouns would be either just above or just under the Secure Lion feature in normal lions, and could be accessed when you king a new lion. The options would be: *Default *He/Him *She/Her *They/Them Or something along those lines. Perhaps if you're browsing the cave, the lion has a little trans pride flag next to its name, like the lionesses do when they're in heat. Of course because this on its own wouldn't change their sex, the lionesses going by He/Him or They/Them could still hunt, and lions going by She/Her or They/Them could still patrol. Because nothing physical has changed, the biological lionesses would still go into heat, but maybe have a chance at losing a tiny bit of mood with each failed try? And when I say tiny, I mean tiny. Like, 1-5%, depending on what the admins/mods/programmers think is fair. And the only things it would really change is that if your lioness came back from hunting with a scar, it would look at the lioness' pronoun settings first, and then use those pronouns, if not set to default, of course, and the flavour texts on the lions page would be the same way. If you no support, please tell me why? |

i think this is a very well thought out idea but in my personal opinion i feel its unnecessary to be included in game play, im all for people being themselves but these are animals and i feel its a bit much in the long run. again very well thought out but not my forte 0 players like this post! No support. I feel like this is a very niche problem and seems like an unnecessary option to add. It's extremely easy to just look past flavor text; I personally don't even read it. If you're the type to copy and paste it into your lion's bio, simply rewrite it (change the name, change the pronouns, whatever you need.) Not only do I feel the pronouns option is unnecessary, I think the example of the "trans flag icon" is also unnecessary. This seems like it could be a very touchy subject for staff to navigate. The losing mood when bred also seems a bit inconsiderate when you consider trans people irl; I don't know if people would appreciate having something that they struggle with irl (discrimination and transphobia) to be crunched down into a lion just.. losing mood when bred. It's taking a real, detrimental issue (the oppression that trans people face and dysphoria) and making it into a trivial little aspect of a game. I'm not trans, so I can't speak for trans people, but I would be interested in hearing the trans community's opinion on this. 5 players like this post! Like? |

I agree with Guillo, personally, namely this part of their post: "... It's taking a real, detrimental issue (the oppression that trans people face and dysphoria) and making it into a trivial little aspect of a game." This is something you can easily put into your lion's bio/footnote/etc. I think making this an official gameplay feature that has actual, potentially negative effects on the game is actually worse. I don't like my kings having kids, but it's part of the game and I just have to consider it a non-canon part of their lore. Locke is male despite having the lab frog equipped, and my next king will probably be agender like I am. If I wanted to specify their pronouns, I'd much rather do it myself. Again, like Guillo said, it's a very touchy subject and everyone has their own personal opinions on it, yes, even the people that identify as such. ex. Some agender people view their own agender identity differently than I do mine. I think it's better to leave it be and let the users write their own stuff. Also, sometimes people want to leave things ambiguous. I do, for myself. Overall, it's great to be considerate of things like this, but I feel as though this has more potential to cause offense than anything else. 3 players like this post! Like? Support. Adding pronoun options to the game literally harms nobody but people who are looking to be offended by things. That's their own problem though, not lioden's. I don't think it should change game play at all though. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I get where you're coming from, but I do think it absolutely makes light of trans peoples situation. If anything, I'd suggest having lab frog also switch pronouns but even then I'm not super comfortable with the option. Also, making something as trivial as pronouns have actual in game effect would affect A Lot 0 players like this post! Like? |

Giving trans (and cis) people the option to make their lions trans if they so choose is the exact opposite of making light of a situation, I'd argue. That would mean you're making a joke out of it? But yeah. Pronoun options for lions would be nice, and wouldn't hurt anything. It'd be a little odd if it affected gameplay, though. (such as the losing mood thing) 0 players like this post! Like? |

I also feel like it might get into a gray area when you use "change pronouns" with breeding: there are some weird people out there, and it could be used in a f/tishy sort of way. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Okay I'm gonna attempt to elaborate more. First of all, I wouldn't go as far as to say it's problematic, but I don't think it should go as far as making the lions trans (which is clearly what you want to do with the trans icon, which if implemented wouldn't need to be displayed bc it affects nothing, and the whole mood thing). Hear me out, you're saying that a trans male is only able to do exactly the same things as the females, and other than pronouns will still be treated as such. Same thing with trans females, etc. As a trans guy and a model, I've openly talked against doing specific shoots because they were asking me to do the things only female models were doing, so I'm sure other trans people would feel uncomfortable with having their now male lion still being treated as a lioness. Also, even if the whole mood thing were to be implemented, which I still think it shouldn't be if this becomes a thing, it makes no sense that trans male lions would lose mood over failed breedings, if anything it would be over successful breeding and even then it shouldn't affect seeing as cis lions are not affected by successful or failed attempts. Additionally, I feel like that part of the suggestion in specific could be triggering (or at the very least hurtful) to some trans people. (Plus, what if someone wanted a male lion that wasn't trans? They just simply didn't have space for another male slot) I frankly suffer from a ton of dysphoria and wouldn't want to have to put my lions through that, for whatever reason. Especially not in a way that hella dismisses it as uwu don't wanna breed T-T Overall, I feel like this suggestion way over-simplifies trans issues and the trans community as a whole in a way. I understand it for lore purposes, but it should not be tied to making lions trans. 1 player likes this post! Like? Edited on 07/04/20 @ 18:48:24 by Daniel (#188266) |

I stand w/ what Daniel says as a trans man myself I just cant really see this needing to be implemented. :( Now i do agree that with lab frogs maybe they can change explore text to fit your king/queen/nb babyβs pronouns but i dont think it really needs to go beyond that. plus the mood drops n stuff just,, rub me the wrong way imo,, i think you have good things in mind but!! i just dont really see these needing to be a feature ingame :( But thats why we have footnotes n bios! that way you can put your lionsβ pronouns in either, n how they feel w certain things, etc! 0 players like this post! Lioden is a semi realistic game. Male lions rarely hunt in real life therefore they would not hunt in this game like the females do. This games is based around real lion prides and this suggestion is pushing it into an unnecessary change. You can always put their gender in the footnote and use lab test frogs for story based things. This can also make it odd for breeding and people may turn it into a bad thing quickly. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Semi-agree. Although I would absolutely love to be able to change my lion's pronouns, I don't think it should affect gameplay. The part about losing mood when breeding rubs me the wrong way. Although lots of trans people don't want biological children, lots of others do, and trans men do sometimes give birth to their children! 1 player likes this post! Like? |

I agree but, I feel that the option to just change pronouns and only pronouns should be added. 2 players like this post! Like? |

I would simply be happy with pronoun buttons because as a cis guy, it makes me uncomfortable thinking that being trans will affect gameplay when being cis doesn't? If you wanted to do the unhappiness at breeding (which shouldn't be for unsuccessful attempts because a lot of trans people still enjoy sex) to be a gameplay design, it should be connected to personality. On the otherhand, it's initially a good idea, just there's too much added to it which complicates the idea. Now I see the issue with what others are saying, that pronouns will still treat AFAB Lions as AFAB lions, the same with AMAB, which can be dysphoric to others but it's the same as putting their pronouns in the footnote, it won't change the way a lion can do like a mutation such as deaf or clawless would which is sorta upsetting. What it would do is change the pronouns in the flavour texts throughout the game and it could do as you said- use the trans icon beside their name in dens. So I'm a little conflicted about the idea myself. But for now, it's a no from me. I would prefer just the pronouns option, not the gameplay added affects from the pronouns. 1 player likes this post!
