If you guys ever want some advice on rabbit markings or anything similar lmk! I breed Mini Rex which is a popular breed with many different recognized colors in showing. I also have extensively studied rabbit coat color genetics, and know everything about them. I'd be very happy to help if your interested. And while I don't know too much about the English spot coloration, here's what I know. The gene that causes the English spot coloring is called the English Spot gene or more commonly the broken gene. It has two alleles En and en. It appears in a variety of breeds, but for the English spot in particular there are certain parts of genetics that give it those spots, because the broken gene alone really just adds white into the coat randomly. Similar to the piebald mutation, it can go with any solid color. The genetic definition of a broken is "Any solid color along with white." In the English Spot it appears as spots along the rabbit's side, and a line down the back, as well as the face markings. The broken gene is also an incomplete dominant one. Meaning all 3 different combinations will have a different look. -enen is a normal solid colored rabbit that does not expresses no white in the coat. -Enen is your typical broken colored rabbit with a fairly balanced amount of white and whatever solid color. -EnEn is what's called a Charlie. What it is, is it's basically a broken colored rabbit with a reduced pattern. For the English Spot in particular it only includes the facial markings and the stripe across its back. For other breeds it's pretty much just facial markings for the most part, but there is a chance that there could be some color on the body as well. Hope this helps! :) Admin Response: We don't have a genetic system like that on Lioden, thank you though! We'll just be inspired by the spot shapes :) 0 players like this post! Like? |
