Reserved - Daughter - 3 years. Relationships: TBA. Open to friends/enemies/etc. Personality: Dalea is a collected and confident character. She knows her strengths and weaknesses quite well, and is also aware of the weight she carries on her shoulders. When dealing with the herd she is friendly, to a point. Knowing exactly when to put others in their place is a specialty of hers. At times she can also show a gentler side when needed. She is a smart and perceptual equine, but not boastful. Despite her own wit, she knows when to call on the wiser members of the herd for help. Often times she still relies on the lessons her parents taught her as a foal. She isn't without her faults, however. She has a fiery temper that can surface at any time. She can, and will, throw her weight around to prove a point. If a well-aimed kick is all it takes to end an argument, you better duck and hope you're not in the line of fire. She is wary of strangers, but growing less so as more and more stragglers join the herd. She is quick to overlook herd members if they don't pull their own weight, and will typically ignore them until they impress her. Appearance: Dalea is a petite horse, her demeanor and size comically unthreatening. She stands just around 13 hands and weighs quite a bit less than your average mustang. Her coat and mane are a white-washed grey in hue, small flecks of black and dark red littering her body. Her eyes are dark mahogany, a stark contrast against her pale features. Her face has a delicate shape, well-proportioned and gently worn with age. She has a few scars, small notches missing out of her legs, face, and ears. History: Dalea had a stable foalhood, for the most part. Her mother held much of the same thoughtful and calm traits as she exhibits now. Her father was a bullheaded and stoic stallion, but was loving nonetheless. They led their own herd, and Dalea grew up within the safe confines of their ranks. She grew swiftly, and so did her inquisition. By two she began to outride alongside the herd with her father, by five she had brought her first foal into the world. It had been a split decision, a passing encounter with a lone stallion. She loved her daughter nonetheless. Her second foal was born a year later, a son this time. Unlike his sister, the child had a father to call his own, a herd stallion by the name of Kestrel. Sadly, he would go on to become an early victim of the drought. It wasn't far into the future that the grass began to dry up, the waterholes were becoming mud, and the trees were dying. At first, they had assumed it was an early fall. As time went on, however, they began to take it more seriously. Herd members began to drop like flies in the radiating heat. Dalea's parents faring no better in their old age, fell as well. She soon found herself at the lead of the few remaining stragglers, two of which were her own flesh and blood. Something odd began to happen as they wandered around between sources of water. Strange horses, confused and laden with the scent of humans, started to stumble upon her herd. It seemed as though she collected them, one after another, until their group was whole again. Their ways were peculiar, however. Their lack of knowledge frightened some feral equines, and they didn't particularly care for the new faces. This didn't seem to hinder, Dalea. Quiet, reclusive, but not shy in the least. He dislikes being in a crowd and can become quite aggressive if cornered. He only shows warmth towards those closest to him and tends to act rather wary towards everyone else. Even then, he isn't the kindest horse and rarely ever shows affection to his friends. He finds new faces particularly disreputable and tends to avoid strangers, giving them a blatant cold shoulder if they approach. Because of his private nature he spends a large amount of time away from the herd, finding their social dynamics very draining. When sleeping, eating, or traveling he sticks to the outside and can become quite panicked if he feels as though he's trapped. He detests attention of any kind and tries his best to stay out of the spotlight when possible. Despite this, he does have a strong morals and can be extremely stubborn when his views are questioned. Due to his former life as a ranch horse, he can be seen "corralling" other equines at times. Be it physically or in conversation if he feels they've stepped out of line. Appearance: Coleus is tall for his breed. Standing at 16 hands, it's easy to speculate that he possibly has thoroughbred heritage. His coat is a mosaic of black and white patches, his muzzle evenly split with a dark spot that careens over his right eye. His irises sport two different colours, the left being a stunning blue and the right a dark brown. Pink can be seen where his fur is lighter, his white splotches tending to sunburn in the scorching weather. He has a brand on his left hip, shaped like a diamond with some kind of symbol etched in the center. History: Major WIP! I will update this soon. They were trained very young to work well with other horses and as such will not engage in any sort of combat, outside of protecting their herd. They don't often show their emotions, but that doesn't mean they don't feel them. Appearance: Shadow is a very commanding presence, standing at roughly 20 hands tall, 3 hands above the average for their breed. Their owners often wondered if they were truly pure bred, however they came from a ranch that only owned Friesian horses. They were bred as a show horse, and as such are very well trained in dressage. They often walk with much more dignity then most other horses in their herd posses, and carry themselves as though they were the most important horse there. History: Shadow was born to a mare and a stallion who did not care for each other, but were forced to bear a foal. As such, Shadow knows little of how it feels to have a true family. The ranch they were born on was abandoned when the droughts began, but the people who owned Shadow did not know that and so, when they could no longer afford to care for them, they sent them back to the empty ranch. Shadow found a yearling while they were wandering after being abandoned, and decided to raise her as their own. At one point in her life she may have been a bit more energetic and playful, but as she got older her true personality began to show. Her boring and dead-eyed stare hid a more thoughtful and divisive mind. While not necessarily evil or mean-spirited, Bes is one to have quite ominous thought patterns. Appearance: Standing at 14.2 hands tall, Bes lives up to the name of a mammoth jennet, being taller than most donkeys. Her rough pelt is a soft brown in color, white marking her belly and lower down to her legs. She bears a long black stripe that stretches down her back and breaks in two along her shoulders. White circles her snout and dots her eyes, a few speckles even going up to touch her long ears. Down her neck, a short and thin mane can be made out. History: Born from a domesticated family, Bes was expected to grow large like that of her father and be just as trusting as her mother. The first part was easy, her father's genetics being amazingly strong, granting her a size rivalling his own. Though one could say she was quite the opposite of her beloved mother. At a younger age she was a very playful and energetic foal, adoring the makeshift herd of work animals, but with age, she soon became untrusting and withdrawn. She would kick and she would bite the hands of her handlers gaining much of their ire. It carried on for so long that she was soon deemed untrainable and with that, unbreedable. She was often left to her own devices when it was time to work and never really spared a second glance, a mistake they would soon learn. Her plotting mind along with copious amounts of time allowed her to open gates, break fencing, eat plants, etc. She'd become a menace, so when the droughts came, and the heat boiled over, Bes was the first to be abandoned. Her previous owners would try their best to take as many assets as possible to the North, but she would never be one. Alone and abandoned, Bes roamed from miles, searching for something, anything in the drying lands. It was there she'd find a new home and a makeshift family, one that would remind her so deeply of the family she lost. A family she could return to at any time, she'd be happy here, right? Just the top picture just a tiny little bit younger History: Cora's parents are big time showing horses and as they got older, there owners wanted a foal to continue the legacy. Cora was a very cute foal but she was a nightmare. Always biting at her mother and the other foals, she kicked the humans. When they tried to break her she wouldn't take it. She was never a mean filly, she just never had the attention to learn any manners. They were going to sell her as a brood mare because she would go for a lot of money, but then the drought happened and they just brought her far away from the ranch and tied her to a post. Relationships: None. (Pm if interested!) Personality: She is strong-willed and tough, but can also be very stubborn and a bit hot-headed. She does not like to be told what to do, she would rather do something when she decides to, but the lead mare does not put up with her nonsense. The lead mare is one of few horses who has her upmost respect. Appearance: A slightly underweight mare, but overall is in a good shape. She is 14hh (she is considered a pony) with a long mane and tail. She has a few scars on her torso and a long one on her nose, obviously from the humans. She may look like a easy opponent, but having to fight for food and water at her old home, honed her skills, making her a..not so easy opponent. I forgot to mention she also has long, feathering hair on her lower legs. History:: She was born on a small farm during the famine. She was a lovable, and caring foal. Her owners had planned to only use her for breeding, she didnβt really have any specialities, but that plan halted when the barn she lived in caught on fire, taking her parentsβ life. Luckily she survived. She stayed at the farm til she was old enough to move to her next βhomeβ, she was three years old. The humans there were not as nice as her old owners, they would hit her if she misbehaved, causing her to gain trust issues against humans, and other animals. She would kick and bit or even charge if a human got close to her. The humans eventually got tired of her, and couldnβt care less if she got hurt, so they let her free with minor injuries. ββββββββββββββββββββββ- She survived in the wild for a while, using her skills she gained at her second βhomeβ. She still kept her trust issues and stubbornness, but she somehow survived. Her second owners assumed she was dead. βββββββββββββββ She found her place among a herd, finding peace as she could rest without having to worry about the damned humans again. It wasnβt a happy ending yet, the famine was still going on unfortunately, but she knew her herd could do it. She loves her herd, but she doesnβt show much affection to much, still has trust issues.
