🐸 ABOUT MUDPUPPIES🐸
"Mudpuppies" start life as tiny, blobby critters who spend most of their time in shallow, muddy ponds or river beds within swamps and forests, where they feed primarily on bugs and moss. They are very social and commonly grow up in clusters alongside their siblings, although it's not unusual for them to be swept away down streams and end up taken in by a new pack. With pudgy, weak legs, these little amphibious beasts lack much in the way of mobility both on land and water (although they are excellent at floating!) With no methods of escaping predators, and no teeth or claws, the pups instead rely on the spongy mass along their necks for defense. Not unlike certain toads, these specialized glands secrete a potent toxin when the pup is scared or startled. Fortunately, it is very easy to earn the trust of these clever creatures! Once you have bonded with a young pup, you will have their loyalty for life!
Just make sure you have ample room at your disposal. The pups might be tiny and adorable, but in a couple years they are going to be huge! Adult mudpuppies are referred to as hounds- or affectionately nicknamed "muddy buddies" by some- and they are very intelligent, although their minds are quite alien to humans and they lack hands or proper vocal cords to communicate (although on rare instances they can learn to somewhat mimic human words). Not only are they large and extremely clever, but have massive appetites. Most individuals who elect to care for pups end up encouraging them back into the wild when they get too big… which, contrary to the case of most critters, is generally seen as a perfectly acceptable thing to do. In fact, it's speculated that even the most feral gravid mudpuppies strategically seek out human settlements near which to lay their eggs, in hopes that humans will take in their young to raise them.
To this day, the origin of these beasts is unknown. It is debated whether they are from another world, or merely evolved alongside humans and remained undiscovered, or perhaps something even stranger...

🐸 GROWING YOUR HOUND🐸
Adult stage mudpuppies ("hounds") rarely look the exact same grown up as they did as pups. They retain approximately 75% of their pup design, but might gain new colors, markings, or traits! Baby colors might shift slightly, but generally colors, markings, and traits are not lost, only gained.
Currently done on base pictured at the top of the thread! More bases will be added later on, as well as off-base opportunities.
You can get an adult stage for ANY mudpuppy I have made, but in doing so any old pups will be automatically added to the mini-masterlist (info on this in rules section below).
Add adult stage to pup [on base]
+25gb / $15 with purchase of puppy (any additional traits/colors/etc gained when grown are a surprise!)
+ 5gb / $5 if you want control over the trait/color changes
Adult stage [on base], custom
35gb / $25 (if you want a new fella but want to skip right over the puppy phase!)

'Mudpuppies' are not a full-blown species at this time, just a casual concept I dabble in for fun. I won't stop you from making your own for personal use, or making things like them (I don't own the concept of a toad monster!) I only ask you don't make your own adoptables based on mine, and you do not trace them or use my bases. And, of course, I appreciate everyone who does support me by purchasing my critters. <3
I would be happy to develop them further in the future if there is ever interest. Keep in mind these guys might change a little over time as I make more! Thanks for checking them out!
NOTICE: Only designs made after 9/10/24 count as "official" unless you request otherwise! This only means I won't be adding previously sold pups to the mini-masterlist, which I keep mostly for myself. If you want your mudpuppy grown up / bred you'll have to have them added. You can let me know if you want an off-site page linked, and I can transfer the pup to you on TH if requested. Thanks!
