Hello! Today I wanted to share my idea about what else could, in my opinion be done with karma feature. Before that, I will share some thoughts about karma in general.

What are my feelings about karma in this game?

When I was a new player, I was really excited for this mechanic. Collecting karma with good deeds, and losing it with bad ones is rather common concept everyone knows, but it's not common in world of games! I used to collect it with passion, and was happy when I got a new title. Although, after discovering all of the titles and all karma encounters I noticed that the perks from being devoted to this mechanic are very little!
Today, at my 3rd year of playing, I don't even pay attention to what option I choose. Sometimes I smile to the fennec, sometimes I kill it and shrug. I am not a kind of competitive player who would want to be in game's karma leaderboards. But I would like to have a point collecting it anyway!

What I do like about karma?

I like when decisions matter! I am trying to always pick the good deed. At the beggining I really paid attention to all my decisions, and I had this little stress when I accidentally did something bad xD That was before I discovered, collecting karma doesn't offer as much as I thought it does.
I like karma backgrounds in explore and I am always smiling when I see "the world is beautiful and respects you" encounter. Literally, that's wholesome.
I like the titles, but it's too easy to collect them!

What I think could be added to the karma system?

1. More encounters that are the result of our decisions, not only encounters that are to gain or lose karma! What if we could meet a lion merchant, wouldn't it be a nice addition to explore? Old, white lion that praise us for being a good lion, and selling colorful gems. On the contrary an angry gray lion that sees us as worthy opponent and offers us black and dark colored gems...

2. My favourite concept, Karma shop!
What If we could spend the karma in some way? The amount of gained karma wouldn't be changed, like, we wouldn't lose it. The "spent" numbers would be locked, but would exist on our karma account anyway.
Example:
I gained 1000 karma, went to the karma shop, spent 500. I still have 1000 and I am a good lion, but I can only spend 500 more. The full amount only changes with my deeds!

Bad lions could have their own shop too, but they would operate on negative numbers.

What could be in a such karma shop?
Some little items, the decor that would be just created to be rather common. Like, we all have pouched rats and crows in explore and our hoards are full of scars and bloodbath backgrounds.
Items on low levels of karma shops could be as popular as them.
It could be nice earrings, claws, jewelry, little animal companions, flowers, bony decors etc...
But the more expensive items, the more unique they are. Body ornaments, rainbows, or scary body paints. Decors that would be on foreground of our lions picture, like mossy stones, but bloody for bad lions and colorfully painted for good ones. I think there can be many, many ideas!
Of course the most expensive items could be the backgrounds. These backgrounds that appear in explore when we gain the certain number of karma. I think it could be a really nice challenge to work for them. I see them as, maybe 2000 or even 5000 karma items!
Maybe the karma shops could contain some items that give some little effects for gameplay.
Grain of Paradise for really dedicated players, or Shadow of Death would fit there perfectly.

Does such karma shop have to be easy accesible?

To make items more unique, it could be something like a flood pit. Appears occasionally, shown to us by a strong shaman NPC or lost angel lion. Maybe it can be the random meeting of Manticora handsome guy?
Maybe the shop would need to have something donated to reroll items, just like boneyard in January's event?

I think there are many players that also think Karma is a mechanic with great potential, but it can have more options. If collecting or losing karma would have more sense, we would be more motivated and focused on our decisions. It will also make Protective and Heartless personalities more interesting and wanted! Who knows, maybe karma-only marking/skin applicators could be a thing too? Crafting recipes for good or bad lions?

I like the suggestion of developing karma! When I joined I noticed that almost everyone is evil for the perks, but whatever happened to doing the nice thing? :p

One suggestion I would make to add on to this: the way you proposed karma would be spent is interesting, but I think might get a bit confusing to put in practice. What happens if you have a certain amount of karma, say, 500 in one alignment, spend those tokens, then crack a bunch of vulture eggs and swing it around so you no longer have those points to spend? I probably have the wrong idea of this though, but that supports my point about it perhaps being a little confusing.
Maybe the shop could be tiered - like the event shop - and to unlock certain items you have to reach a certain level of karma. I think the items sold would have to be carefully chosen so as not to create the same bias in karma choices now. It could be purely decorative items, or practical items that have equal value (like lion meat in the evil shop, and an item that is functionally the same but is a bit nicer than cannibalism in the good shop).

imiTea thanks for pointing out the little issue about spending karma. I just think there should be a way to separate gaining and losing it from spending it in the shop. I think it can be easily resolved, by tiers or like in the event where everyone unlock their shop individually (forgot what month it was).

@ Maro (G2 Solaris DF,R.rosette) That's August, where there are two shops, the Destroyers and the Preservers, that are unlocked by earning Evil or Good points! You can't have both unlocked at the same time, and if you dip below the required point total for a shop it closes. I think that would be a good way to separate a karma shop.

Now, one issue I have is that I, personally, would definitely forget how much karma I have vs. how much I've spent. However, that's easily resolved - the page for the shop could just list those amounts at the top!

Overall, I think this is an awesome idea, and I'd love to see it implemented!

There could be a snake who tells players about their karma numbers. Like we have a snake for karma amount now, but it's paid to ask it. Maybe there could be a quest to reveal it, or service to buy like "feed and play all"?

Hmm... well, you can already pay the karma snake 1000 SB to reveal your karma permanently, but I suppose a quest to do so as well wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm not sure what sort of quest it would be, though

Adding to the whole separating the Karma idea.
it wouldn't work having the two shops open at the same time.
of course a neutral ground is at 0 karma, where you can review the shop, but are unable to buy anything until you either gain, or loose karma. You can return to neutral ground via the Cleansing ichor In the Gorilla Enclave, or when you first King a lion.
As soon as your king goes to -1 karma, the Foul shop is unlocked. +1 karma the Generosity shop is unlocked.

I do not personally have the karma track enabled via the snake, so I do not know how common it is to get good or bad karma, or can comment on the amount that is suggested, e.g the backgrounds; so I will not.

So, onto the shop suggestions:
[ALL ART DOES NOT BELONG TO ME, IT BELONGS TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS]

Shop of Generosity
- has flower themed Decor [African Flower Ornaments, etc. karma-exclusive, etc.]
- explore decor/Backgrounds not affected by karma [I don't see that as justifiable]
- Includes life-related decor/backgrounds [such as a birds nest full with eggs, or some lion cubs that are angel-like]

- has Bone & scar-themed decor
- death-themed Backgrounds [e.g january backgrounds]

Karma System
So the idea is to spend karma, so as per your example, if you spend 500/1000 karma then you have 500 left over.

So let's say you currently have 1000 karma per the example.
You spend 500, but then you start dropping karma.
You can still spend the remaining 500 until you reach Neutral ground Where both shops are viewable, yet you cannot spend + or - Karma.

If you start dropping Karma, it then adds towards the Foul Shop
E.g -10 karma from +1000 Karma makes it so you now have 990+ Karma and you now have -10 karma points to spend.

Karma Point names
Generosity shop: Life Tokens
Foul Shop: Blood Tokens

So, to explain in further detail if I am not understood:
Let's say you have 1000 Life Tokens, but you drop -10 Karma.
You now Receive 10 Blood tokens for the Foul shop.
You still have 1000 Life tokens, even if you are on +990 Karma.

The system is like the Lioden event system. Any un-spent currency is FROZEN if you are on neutral ground, or one the opposite shop that the currency resides in.
Example:
If you can only view and spend in the Foul, your unspent +karma from the Generosity shop remains frozen, but it adds to it every time you gain karma, vice versa.

I will be adding a shop introduction suggestion for both shops later on.

I'm glad You like my concept.

About spending karma, I wanted to separate the full amount of gained points from the ones that were spent.
Only good and bad deeds would be able to change the total amount of karma points. Spending would just block a part of these points so they can be "used" only once.

Maybe it sounds chaotic, English is not my native language!


Anyway, I like the names of shops You proposed!
And the artwork You picked shows the atmosphere of them nicely :)

Basically a total amount gained/lost within the time of playing (as the current king), if I am correct?
A total amount to be spent will be separate, underneath the intro to the shop.

A total amount of karma lost/gained will be within the intro which I will make a draft of later tomorrow

Yes, correct!
If such shop would just consume from total amount of karma, some people would avoid using this feature. People wouldn't want to lose their titles or leaderboard place. And we want everyone to enjoy the shops!
