Hello! Today I wanted to share my idea about what else could, in my opinion be done with karma feature. Before that, I will share some thoughts about karma in general.

What are my feelings about karma in this game?

When I was a new player, I was really excited for this mechanic. Collecting karma with good deeds, and losing it with bad ones is rather common concept everyone knows, but it's not common in world of games! I used to collect it with passion, and was happy when I got a new title. Although, after discovering all of the titles and all karma encounters I noticed that the perks from being devoted to this mechanic are very little!
Today, at my 3rd year of playing, I don't even pay attention to what option I choose. Sometimes I smile to the fennec, sometimes I kill it and shrug. I am not a kind of competitive player who would want to be in game's karma leaderboards. But I would like to have a point collecting it anyway!

What I do like about karma?

I like when decisions matter! I am trying to always pick the good deed. At the beggining I really paid attention to all my decisions, and I had this little stress when I accidentally did something bad xD That was before I discovered, collecting karma doesn't offer as much as I thought it does.
I like karma backgrounds in explore and I am always smiling when I see "the world is beautiful and respects you" encounter. Literally, that's wholesome.
I like the titles, but it's too easy to collect them!

What I think could be added to the karma system?

1. More encounters that are the result of our decisions, not only encounters that are to gain or lose karma! What if we could meet a lion merchant, wouldn't it be a nice addition to explore? Old, white lion that praise us for being a good lion, and selling colorful gems. On the contrary an angry gray lion that sees us as worthy opponent and offers us black and dark colored gems...

2. My favourite concept, Karma shop!
What If we could spend the karma in some way? The amount of gained karma wouldn't be changed, like, we wouldn't lose it. The "spent" numbers would be locked, but would exist on our karma account anyway.
Example:
I gained 1000 karma, went to the karma shop, spent 500. I still have 1000 and I am a good lion, but I can only spend 500 more. The full amount only changes with my deeds!

Bad lions could have their own shop too, but they would operate on negative numbers.

What could be in a such karma shop?
Some little items, the decor that would be just created to be rather common. Like, we all have pouched rats and crows in explore and our hoards are full of scars and bloodbath backgrounds.
Items on low levels of karma shops could be as popular as them.
It could be nice earrings, claws, jewelry, little animal companions, flowers, bony decors etc...
But the more expensive items, the more unique they are. Body ornaments, rainbows, or scary body paints. Decors that would be on foreground of our lions picture, like mossy stones, but bloody for bad lions and colorfully painted for good ones. I think there can be many, many ideas!
Of course the most expensive items could be the backgrounds. These backgrounds that appear in explore when we gain the certain number of karma. I think it could be a really nice challenge to work for them. I see them as, maybe 2000 or even 5000 karma items!
Maybe the karma shops could contain some items that give some little effects for gameplay.
Grain of Paradise for really dedicated players, or Shadow of Death would fit there perfectly.

Does such karma shop have to be easy accesible?

To make items more unique, it could be something like a flood pit. Appears occasionally, shown to us by a strong shaman NPC or lost angel lion. Maybe it can be the random meeting of Manticora handsome guy?
Maybe the shop would need to have something donated to reroll items, just like boneyard in January's event?

Ideas for a neutral playstyle and Dream Shop concept for neutral players:

Ideas and stories for karma shops will be here too!
Concept for good karma NPC (drawn by me)

Thank You for reading.
I think there are many players that also think Karma is a mechanic with great potential, but it can have more options. If collecting or losing karma would have more sense, we would be more motivated and focused on our decisions. It will also make Protective and Heartless personalities more interesting and wanted! Who knows, maybe karma-only marking/skin applicators could be a thing too? Crafting recipes for good or bad lions?
Please consider my idea and tell me what do You think about it! Support if You find it interesting!

Also, everyone please remember

I love this idea!! I would also like to bring up the topic of if there’d be anything regarding those who choose to stay neutral? Understandable if that doesn’t factor in because you start at neutral and it’s a task of keeping it there instead of working in one direction, but I think it’s something to bring up as someone trying to stay neutral

The concept of another year-round or seasonal shop using Karma as a currency is something I'd love! Finally a point to getting it higher than the max threshold other than leaderboard bragging rights. And new karma-locked explore encounters that show the fruit of our good or bad deeds sounds great! More meta and worldbuilding is always good.

Superb idea you got there pal

I had a little break from lioden but I am so happy my suggestion still gets some new supports and comments.

I just kinged a new lion and I got some encounters that need karma (like hyenas where you can kill them or discuss with them), and for another time I started to daydream about more useful karma points and more karma encounters that are more important than just background :)

I was thinking about this comment lately:

I love this idea!! I would also like to bring up the topic of if there’d be anything regarding those who choose to stay neutral? Understandable if that doesn’t factor in because you start at neutral and it’s a task of keeping it there instead of working in one direction, but I think it’s something to bring up as someone trying to stay neutral

I am not sure if it's even possible to play lioden with exploring and keeping a neutral karma for long. There are always battles and many normal options in explore have an impact on karma we earn or lose. So if someone wants to play this game and remain completely neutral, I imagine it as a hard work.

I checked how exactly the August shops work and:
There are also two separate shops that will unlock depending on how many Evil or Good actions you do in Explore: The Destroyers (Evil) and The Preservers (Good). These shops are unlocked by your actions only.

The Destroyers is unlocked by earning a total of 300 Evil Points, while The Preservers is unlocked by earning a total of 300 Good Points. You can only have one shop open at one time, but it is possible to open both shops multiple times on one account. If you go below the threshold for either shop, your access will be restricted until you reach 300 Evil or Good Points again, respectively.

And I see it like this: since karma is a mechanic present in this game and has a various effects, staying neutral is like ignoring one of game mechanics. It's like not participating in event. If you stay neutral in August, you just won't unlock any shop. That's why I think it should just be similar with karma shops or/and encounters I suggested.
Nothing else is coming to my mind about staying neutral.

And now a random thought, not completely serious but:

Imagine a person who lives their life completely neutrally. They don't ever do anything good or bad so they aren't really involved in as many things as people, who for example, are actively helping others, have friends, or as people who make many dramas, have enemies etc. Ofc there are some things they can stumble upon (like a neutral player in lioden still would meet hyenas or ocassion to do something god or bad in august event) but if they ignore these things then usually nothing interesting happens in their social life. Yes, I know random bad things happen in life but if we try to imagine a person who tries to be fully neutral in life, the first thing that comes to mind is that its impossible and the 2nd is that they don't have any interactions and events with people. Am I going too deep with this?

I personally agree with the person who said "I don't really like the idea of spending karma as a tangible currency"

I think it would be better if instead, karma had a bigger impact on exploration. Or possibly even a few rewards for specific karma "benchmarks".

Thanks for the feedback, I think rewards are a cool idea too!

I thought karma could be a nice currency because it's measured with numbers. Also, I used to play various MMORPG games and I liked the concept that's often present in them- gaining reputation points (or losing reputation) and possibility to buy things with these points.

I really love this idea!

I remember feeling disappointed that karma had no other benefit other than changing encounters, and sometimes affecting an event or two, but this would really make me conscious of my decisions!

I love this idea but maybe it should be a sb shop or have it's own currency (like monkey teeth or event currency) to avoid confusion

This is a neat concept! I do feel like there should be a similar shop for folks who try to keep their karma strictly neutral as well- though I'm not sure how it would work.

Support. I agree that there should also be a neutral shop and encounters; otherwise, it would unfortunately lock neutral players out. Maintaining strictly neutral karma is tricky, and therefore, I would imagine that it would be better if the neutral range for the shop, at least, was widened to be more fair. I do not know how neutral players would feel about widening it for encounters, as as it currently exists, the neutral range is very small, and people no longer run into neutral encounters once they surpass it either way now, and widening it would change that. I suppose that question is best left up for those who follow that playstyle.
